COMMON BUSINESS MODEL
We’ve worked in the big agency world and we know all too well how they operate.
Your goals are secondary to budget and agency profitability. While that works
great for the agency, it rarely works well for your business. The costs of build-
out, leasing, legal services, accounting and staffing needs are just a portion of
the headache that can come with starting a new business. Most agencies are
equipped to provide you with a pretty package of branding materials for launch.
However, their commitment to you usually ends there, leaving you with just the
initial set of materials and a hefty invoice but no support to create new materials

retainer basis. This means we are able to front load the bulk of those key launch
materials while spreading out your cash flow over a longer period of time. After

Vogogo is the world’s first online crypto currency payment processing technology.
Based here in Calgary, they were working with an agency out of town but were
having challenges with creative timelines, meeting deadlines and keeping up with
the workload. They wanted to work with a creative team in the area so they could
easily meet on a regular basis and keep up with the demanding workflow. We stepped
in and took over the entire creative process working closely with their Marketing
Manager to ensure all work was completed on time and to their standards. We have
completed a number of different assets for them including brochures, info-graphics
and promotional materials. We continue to enjoy working with them today.

Cryptocurrency is a new form of currency that, as it stands today, does not have a unified identity or

The marketing Manager with M2i Developments came to us in need of a change.
They needed someone new and someone who could produce quality work, fast.
M2i approached us to build them a website for their new development in Calgary,
SoBow Condos. They had an extensive amount of information that needed to
be presented in a modern and engaging manner to draw in potential buyers.
Incorporated in the site are many different components about the development,
condo listings, community and surrounding area.
We also designed a magazine/brochure for the Sobow Condos that included
information about the company, project, surrounding community and local events.
We designed the book like a magazine, keeping in mind that it would be the
primary information package displayed at their sales center for potential buyers
to take home.
We were nominated for a 2014 SAM Award and
won in the category for Best Brochure.

quickly realized how big of a task it really was. We created a new website built on
a different platform making sure the site included everything they needed. Tyalta
wanted to focus on a simple yet effective design, easy layout and navigation. Their
large line of equipment, products and services needed to be easily searchable
for their clients. Not only did we provide services on the design side, but we also
created copy for the site that engaged the reader by providing insight to Tyalta’s
history and company values. We correspondingly created their 20th Anniversary
badge presented on the website, which will be converted into a sticker and logo

Originally Butalia Raymond & Co. — a professional accounting and business
advisory firm — otherwise known as BRC, came to us seeking full branding,
stationary packages, website design and merchandise. We were able to solidify
the BRC brand by providing them with all the necessary assets and making sure
each asset complimented the others.
Eventually, BRC expanded nationally, quadrupling in size into a company called
WBM Partners, which initiated a complete rebrand. As current clients they
trusted us to create them an entirely new brand that would still have the same
effectiveness as the one we created for them previously. We redesigned their logo,
stationary packages, interior signs and website, to a new brand that was just as
powerful as the first. Because we had built that partnership with them, they knew
they could expect the same consistent high standards from us over and over.

With an existing relationship through one of our team members, we received the
opportunity to respond to an RFP for an entirely new marketing campaign for the
Calgary Crime Stoppers. Through a presentation and competing against other
agencies, our proposal was presented to the board of the Calgary Crime Stoppers
and was selected as the agency of choice for the organization. Currently we are in
the works of creating a new art direction, concept, and campaign to launch on the
streets of Calgary, promoting a new feel to the organization. This project includes
marketing strategy, media buying, creative art direction, website redesign, social
media assets and corporate packages.

The Shaw Charity Classic is a golf tournament hosted by the Patron Group here in
Calgary at the Canyon Meadows Golf Course. They wanted to freshen up the look of
their tickets and various print materials used for this tournament.
They were initially outsourcing design from another province where cost and time
became a challenge. We worked with their Tournament Coordinator to produce a
new design and new images for 2015, providing an affordable solution and solving
issues they had with previous versions. Working on a tight deadline, we produced

Theatre Junction approached us with the specific goal of identifying new market
segments and creating key materials to support the venue, arts commons and
to drive traffic and ticket sales. As a key hub in the Calgary Arts scene, it was
important to us to really flex some creative muscle, without alienating the mass
market.
We wanted to create something that would resonate with their current clientele,
but also attract new interest.
For the 2015/2016 season, Blackwater has been able to develop new ad and art
creative that engages an audience across multiple demographics. We continue to

Online ticketing has been a particularly lacking experience for promoters, venues,
and customers alike. The industry is tainted with high costs, low value and low
service options. The founding partners of Zoobis online tickets were in search of
an alternative to traditional ticketing platforms. They wanted to develop a high
quality option, featuring an effective tool set for small to medium sized venues,

wanted to change one of the arenas into an events/concert hall. What they needed
from us was a rendering of what the venue could look like to propose the idea. We

M2i feels very fortunate to have found Blackwater Creative (BC) and continuously
relies on them for our marketing needs including but not limited to: web design,

& Marketing Category for its very first project - 1912Cross (SoBow). Although the
landscape of Calgary’s real estate development market continues to evolve, the
SAM Awards are still largely dominated by suburban heavyweights with decades of
experience. We feel very proud that M2i was nominated in this highly competitive
field and amongst peers with decades of experience. Our Sales Brochure won the
2014 Canadian Home Builders Association (CHBA) Sales & Marketing (SAM) Best
Brochure award due to the hard work of BC. We are now so proud and happy to see
their work being recognized by our industry leaders.

  • 3. COMMON BUSINESS MODEL We’ve worked in the big agency world and we know all too well how they operate. Your goals are secondary to budget and agency profitability. While that works great for the agency, it rarely works well for your business. The costs of build- out, leasing, legal services, accounting and staffing needs are just a portion of the headache that can come with starting a new business. Most agencies are equipped to provide you with a pretty package of branding materials for launch. However, their commitment to you usually ends there, leaving you with just the initial set of materials and a hefty invoice but no support to create new materials or support tools. OUR BUSINESS MODEL ON BOARDING Cash flow is the lifeblood of any business; we get that. But at Blackwater we don’t believe that the above model is a fair way to do business. Instead, our business model is built on long-term relationships and primarily functions on a retainer basis. This means we are able to front load the bulk of those key launch materials while spreading out your cash flow over a longer period of time. After you launch, we’re still right there. Based here in Calgary, they were working with an agency out of town but were having challenges with creative timelines, meeting deadlines and keeping up with the workload. They wanted to work with a creative team in the area so they could easily meet on a regular basis and keep up with the demanding workflow. We stepped in and took over the entire creative process working closely with their Marketing Manager to ensure all work was completed on time and to their standards.   • 13. The marketing Manager with M2i Developments came to us in need of a change. They needed someone new and someone who could produce quality work, fast. M2i approached us to build them a website for their new development in Calgary, SoBow Condos. They had an extensive amount of information that needed to be presented in a modern and engaging manner to draw in potential buyers. Incorporated in the site are many different components about the development, condo listings, community and surrounding area. We also designed a magazine/brochure for the Sobow Condos that included information about the company, project, surrounding community and local events. We designed the book like a magazine, keeping in mind that it would be the primary information package displayed at their sales center for potential buyers to take home. Originally Butalia Raymond & Co. — a professional accounting and business advisory firm — otherwise known as BRC, came to us seeking full branding, stationary packages, website design and merchandise. We were able to solidify the BRC brand by providing them with all the necessary assets and making sure each asset complimented the others. Eventually, BRC expanded nationally, quadrupling in size into a company called WBM Partners, which initiated a complete rebrand. As current clients they trusted us to create them an entirely new brand that would still have the same effectiveness as the one we created for them previously. We redesigned their logo, stationary packages, interior signs and website, to a new brand that was just as powerful as the first.   • 21. The Shaw Charity Classic is a golf tournament hosted by the Patron Group here in Calgary at the Canyon Meadows Golf Course.
