2. 1. NARRATIVE
“THE UGLY DUCKLING”
 Orientation
It introduces the participants which involve in the story of the Ugly Duckling.
They are duck mother, Ugly duckling, duckling's sister, and the swan.
 Complication
It brings the rising conflict. In a long story, the complication should be
minors and a major. In this story of ugly duckling, the major complication is
that the new born duck is different form other little ducks. The difference
makes him get bad treatment from others animals. As results, he is sad,
unhappy and finally runs away.
 Resolution
It comes to a solution for the complication. In narrative texts, a resolution
can be happy ending or sad ending. In this story of the Ugly duckling, the
resolution is happy one. He gets new friends who do not treat him badly.
 Reorientation
Do not be sad because it's got an ugly facebecause you definitely have the

3. 2. RECOUNT
“BY AIR”
 Orientation
I am used to traveling by air and only on one occasion have I ever felt
frightened.
 Event 1
After taking off, we flew low over the city. It slowly went high to the sky.
 Event 2
But, suddenly it turned round and flew back to the airport. An air-hostess told us
to keep calm and to get off the plane quietly as soon as it touched down.
 Event 3
Everybody on board was worried and we were curious to find out what
happened. Later we learnt that there was a very important person on board.
Earlier somebody told the police that there was a bomb on the plane.
 Event 4
After we landed, the police searched the plane carefully
 Re-orientation
Fortunately they did not find a bomb and five hours later we were able to take off
again.

“TWO POLICE”
 Orientation
One day a man give a humor in Bus Halte to a woman,

“You know why police always walk in pairs?”

“MY HOUSE”
 Identification
My house is a wooden house. It is not a very big house but it’s very
comfortable.
 Description of Location
My house at basuki rahmat street number 22. Surabaya. My house near my
school. I always walking with my friend on the school. My house also near
the garden city. In the afternoon, I always playing in there with my sister.
 Description part of house
My house have a small garden around it. There is bamboo fence around the
garden and the gate. I like my house very much. There is a living room and
there are three bedrooms. There are also a kitchen, a dining room and a
bathroom.
In the living room, there is a table with a three-seated sofa and two single
sofas. At the other end of the room, there is a book shelf. The ceiling is
white, the wall is yellow and the curtains are brown. There is a carpet on the

“ELEPHANT”
 General Clasification
Elephant is the largest and strongest of all animals. It is a strange looking
animal which it has thick legs, huge sides and backs, large hanging ears, a
small tail, little eyes, long white tusks and above all, elephant has a long
nose, the trunk. An elephant is commonly seen in a zoo, it is hard to find in
its natural habitat.
 Description of Physical Appearance
The trunk is the elephant's peculiar feature. This trunk has various usages.
The elephant draws up water by its trunk and can squirt the water all over
its body like a shower bath. The elephant's trunk also lifts leaves and put
them into its mouth. In fact, the trunk serves the elephant as long arm and
hand. An elephant looks very clumsy and heavy and yet an elephant can
move very quickly.
 Description Of Character
The elephant is very intelligent animal. Its intelligence combined with its
great strength makes an elephant a very useful servant to man. Elephant
can be trained to serve in various ways such as carry heavy loads, hunt for
tigers and even fight. An elephant is really a smart animal.

“A MAN BULLDOZES NEIGHBORS 4 HOUSES”
 Newsworthy event
A man damaged four houses after he drove his bulldozer
through them. At least one vehicle was also destroyed.
 Background event
The incident took place at Baker and Highway 101. The man
was angry at his neighbors and took his bulldozer to the
streets. He damaged four homes and cutting power to others.
Nobody was hurt but power was out all day Friday. The man
was booked into jail for malicious mischief.
