7. WHO IS THE MASTER TRAINER?
Master Trainer is a key trainer who trains
the facilitators. He plays a complex role
as an experienced facilitator, organizer,
coordinator and evaluator.
8. WHO IS THE FACILITATOR?
FFS facilitator is more than a teacher or an
instructor. He plays a complex role as an
experienced farmer, a questioner, an
organizer, and a coordinator.

Farmer with piece of land under
cultivation, willing to participate
in FFSs activities through out the
crop season.

13. WHAT FOR DEMONSTRATION PLOT?
A field with a specific crop which act as
primary learning material for the training
of farmers/facilitators. From where they
collect, analyze and compare field data. It
also act as a class room for FFS.
14. WHAT IS THE FARMERS FIELD SCHOOL?
Farmer Field School is an unusual sight.
School without walls where farmers and
facilitators gather on weekly basis to analyze
the progress of a crop, learn the biotech
interactions between soil, plant and insect,
chart the dynamics of insect population and
finally bring this knowledge together to
make informed crop management decision.

specimens from Field School

the basic learning materials

29. 3. AGRO-ECOSYSTEM ANALYSIS
This is a core of the weekly
process. Each team uses their
field samples and notes to
create visual analytical tool
combining key factors such as
pest/predator densities, plant
health, field conditions,
weathers, and current
management.

To build up confidence,
the sub-group leader
present the observation
through chart amongst
other member farmers of
FFS.

These activities are linked to crop
stage and to specific local issues.
This part of the curriculum is
tailored for each Field School from a
larger selection of ‘Training Manual’
by facilitator’s extensive training.
These exercises require more field
work on topics such as crop
physiology, health and safety, food
webs, field ecology, economic
analysis and water/ fertilizer
management. Supporting studies
such as ‘insect zoos’ for learning
plant-insect and insect-insect
interaction are also initiated as part
of ‘special topics’

learners, facilitate and
strengthen the decision
