Alcohol’s impact on your body starts from the moment you
take your first sip.
Brain – the part of the body where the drunkenness starts
because of high water concentration and bloodstream.
Alcoholic drinks make a person intoxicated because of
alcoholic content . Beverages have different level of alcohol
percentage form less than 1% up to 40% and up.

1. Absorption
A. Blood stream – alcohol passes rapidly to blood stream
without being digested.
B. Stomach – food in the stomach tends to keep alcohol in
the stomach longer.
C. Small Intestine – the bubbles in the alcohol pass
through small intestine makes you drunk faster.

30. Dependency on Alcohol
Some people who drink heavily may develop a physical and
emotional dependency on alcohol. Alcohol withdrawal can be
difficult and life-threatening. You often need professional help to
break an alcohol addiction. As a result, many people seek medical
detoxification to get sober. It’s the safest way to ensure you break
the physical addiction. Depending on the risk for withdrawal
symptoms, detoxification can be managed on either an outpatient
or inpatient basis.

Beverages 18th Amendment (Voldstead Act)
Prohibited the manufacturing, sales,
transportation and importation of
intoxicating liquors in U.S.
 ❖ Act lasted for a year.

Saudi Arabia - in history, alcohol consumption was
punishable by imprisonment.

33. 21st Amendment passed 1893 by U.S.
Congress
❖ Because of uncontrollable demand, they allow
distribution of liquors with this conditions.
❖ Distribution of alcohol will be controlled by the state
or town.
❖ Sale of liquors is legal to 50 states of U.S. and district
of Colombia.

34. Important Aspects on Serving Alcoholic Beverages in the
Philippines “City Ordinance of Manila” Ordinance No. 85, Section
89
 Bar Condition for the distribution of liquor license:
 ⮚ That the licensee provides measure for the misconduct and disturbance in the
place.
 ⮚ Liquor should be sold only to customers 18 years old and above. (proof of age
if doubt)
 ⮚ Allow drunk person to enter the bar but do not serve drunk person if he/she
orders alcoholic beverage. If the drunken person brings commotions, he/she has
to leave the premises.
 ⮚ Do not allow any illegal activities.
 ⮚ Do not violate any provision of this ordinance.

35. Prohibited Areas:
✔ Bar establishment should be 50 meters away from school,
church hospital and public building.
✔ Night club and cabarets should be 200 meters away from
school, church hospital and public building.
✔ Hotel and tourist establishment are allow to operate
wherever the establishment is located by Department of
Tourism

36. Prohibited Time:
✔ No liquors should be served and sold before 8:00 a.m. and
past 10:00 p.m. however special permit may be issued upon
payment of annual permit fee of P2,000.00 only.
✔ Closed Hours (When Unlawfull to Sell)
✔ Beverage establishment will be allowed to remain open to
the public every day including Sundays except from 2:00 a.m. to
8:00 a.m.
