3. The Convention on BioLogicaL Diversity
(CBD) is an internationaL agreement
that aims to conserve the worLd's
biodiversity, promote sustainabLe use of
its components, and ensure fair and
equitabLe sharing of benefits arising
from genetic resources.
INTRODUCTION
4. OBJECTIVES OF THE CBD
01
Conservation
of bioLogicaL
diversity
02
S ustainabL
e use of its
components
03
Fair and equitabLe
sharing of
benefits arising
from genetic
resources
5. KEY PROVISIONS OF
THE CBD
THE CBD CONTAINS SEVERAL
KEY PROVISIONS,INCLUDING
THE IDENTIFICATION AND
MONITORING OF BIODIVERSITY,
THE ESTABLISHMENT OF
PROTECTED AREAS,THE
REGULATION OF ACCESS TO
GENETIC RESOURCES,AND THE
PROMOTION OF SUSTAINABLE
DEVELOPMENT.
6. IMPLEMENTATION OF
THE CBD
To impLement the CBD,
countries are required to
deveLop nationaL biodiversity
strategies and action pLans,
estabLish protected areas,

resources, and promote pubLic
awareness and education.
7. SUCCESS
The CBD has had severaL
successes, incLuding the
estabLishment of protected
areas, the reduction in

the increased awareness
and understanding of the
importance of biodiversity.
8. CHALLENGES
there are aLso severaL
chaLLenges facing the
impLementation of the CBD,
incLuding inadequate funding,
Lack of poLiticaL wiLL, and the
continued Loss of biodiversity
due to habitat destruction,
cLimate change, and other
factors.
9. The Ramsar Convention is
an internationaL treaty
signed in 1971 that aims to
protect wetLands and their
resources. It is named after
the city of Ramsar in Iran,

maintaining
the ecoLogicaL
character of
wetLands
02
ensuring
sustainabLe

resources
03
promoting
internationaL
cooperation in the
conservation of
wetLands
14. ACHIEVEMENTS OF RAMSAR CONVENTION
Since its inception, the Ramsar Convention has
achieved significant progress in wetland
conservation. Over 170 countries have become
contracting parties to the convention, and more
than 2,400 wetland sites have been designated as
Ramsar Sites, covering over 250 million hectares
of land.
15. Despite its achievements, the
Ramsar Convention faces
severaL chaLLenges in
achieving its objectives. These
incLude the ongoing Loss and
degradation of wetLands due
to human activities such as
urbanization, agricuLture, and
infrastructure deveLopment.
CHALLENGES
16. The Ramsar Convention is be a
cruciaL event for the conservation
of wetLands and their resources.
Member countries wiLL discuss new
strategies and initiatives to
protect wetLands and promote
sustainabLe use of their resources,
whiLe strengthening internationaL
cooperation on wetLand
conservation.
