4. INTRODUCTION
Higher education is leadership education. The values and virtues
practiced in universities heavily influence the future leaders.
Many institutions of higher education simultaneously show
excellence in academic subjects, are green campuses with
manifold ethics curricula, are active members in community
engagement, and also are adept in providing value orientation to
all stakeholders. It is universally felt that the status of teaching
profession requires to be raised to ensure its dignity and
integrity. Accordingly, it is considered necessary that there
should be a code of ethics which may be evolved by the teaching
community itself for its guidance. There are five major areas of
professional activities which encompass the work of a teacher.
For each of these areas certain principles have been identified to
serve as guidelines for teacher’s conduct.

Values
Wisdom and Skills: Any act performed by a
person must follow an approach of wisdom

Strong belief in Religion: the way we behave

spiritual values
Control over Mind: it is another important
features in terms of our spiritual values So
right from the childhood one must be taught
to keep a control and balance over mind also
helps in proper usage of pure energy and
resources Aim is to attain a state of pure mind
11. Values remain embedded in our minds since childhood. As
children, we are taught what is good, bad, right or wrong by
parents, educational institutions and social groups. These
values become part of our behaviour and personality when
we grow up and are transmitted to future generations, thus,
creating a healthy society.
In the business world, every person, whether manager or
non-manager, whose behaviour is value-based shapes the
culture of the organisation Organisation is a group of people
responsible for its formation, survival and growth. How good
an organisation is depends upon how good are the people
managing it
Good people are those whose actions and behaviour are
based on a sound value system and ethical principles. Value
system is a combination of all values that an individual should
have. Values lay foundation for organisational success.
They develop the attitudes, perceptions and motives that
shape the behaviour of people working in the organisation.
This develops a sound organisation culture that promotes
image of the organisation in the society. Values in individuals
develop a value-based organisation, society, nation and the
world as a whole.
IMPORTANCE OF
VALUES IN
BUSINESS
12. VALUE
IMPLEMENTATION
Values can be implemented in a company just as
systematically as companies now implement strategic plans.
In fact, the two processes are parallel and complementary.
The process of strategic planning and implementation focuses
on quantitative goals, objectives, strategies and initiatives
designed to promote growth and development of the
business. It is a process for systematic change. Value
implementation focuses on the qualitative side of the
business. It is a process for continuous improvement in all
existing activities. Plan implementation can be likened to the
voluntary system that governs the conscious movements of
the human body; while value implementation is like the
autonomic system that ensures all the routine functions
required to maintain perfect health are carried out in the
most effective manner.
In the entrepreneurial stage of a company’s growth, the
founder or CEO makes a decision about which values are most
important and ensures that they are implemented by his or
her own personal effort and attention. Bill Marriott, Sr.,
insisted on quality in his first seven Hot Shoppes by personally
visiting each facility every day to inspect the operations. Jack
Welsh inspired to GE the passionate commitment to quality,
speed, openness and other values that have propelled the
phenomenal growth and profitability of GE even during the
years after his departure.
13. At a later stage of growth, the organization institutionalizes
the attention to values by the creation of separate
departments to assume responsibility for each of the most
important values. A controller’s office is established to
enforce the values of thrift and efficiency. A research
division is created to foster the value of innovation. A
human resources department is set up to give proper
attention to employees. A customer service desk is opened;
perhaps even a safety department, as at Du Pont; and so on.
Each value has been institutionalized as a structure.
At the next level, performance standards are set with
respect to each value, rules are established, and systems
are designed to enforce the rules and achieve the
standards. At first, there are many separate systems
operating somewhat independently of each other—some
for quality control, some for cost control, some for
innovation, some for customer service, and so forth.
Gradually the systems become more and more coordinated
with each other to eliminate duplicate and conflicting
activities and improve efficiency. Later, systems at different
levels of the organization are integrated with one another
to function in a harmonious manner.Achieving values
requires a variety of specialized skills for their effective
expression. Product innovation and quality control require
technical skills. Customer service and good communication
with employees require interpersonal skills. Coordination
and integration require organizational skills. Discipline and
motivation require managerial skills. Companies recruit
people with the essential personality traits and train them
to impart the skills needed to achieve the values they
consider most important.
14. The highest level of organized value implementation is
achieved through an appropriate structure, standards and
rules, systems that are coordinated and integrated, and
people recruited and trained to possess the right skills and
traits. But it is possible to raise the quality of value
implementation to an even higher level by creating an
institutional milieu or culture. This usually occurs naturally,
after a formal system as described above has been in
operation for many years. The values gradually become so
deeply ingrained in the people and the organization that
external systems of enforcement are no longer necessary.
An atmosphere of peer pressure develops that acts to
uphold the value and discourage deviation. At Merck we
were told that if a copywriter of promotional material ever
got a little too exuberant in praising the virtues of a drug,
peer pressure would immediately force him or her to
retract the idea. In many mature companies the most
important values have become part of the institutional
milieu. The Hewlett-Packard was able to do away with time
clocks and removed the locks on the laboratory storerooms
because an atmosphere of peer pressure "enforces"
responsible behavior from employees.
15. 1. HONESTY
All personnel must be committed to telling the truth in all forms of
communication and in all actions. This includes never purposely telling
partial truths, selectively omitting information, making misrepresentations or
overstatements. Honesty also means reliably sharing both good and bad news
with equal candor.
2. FAIRNESS
All dealings and relationships must be founded on a conscious commitment
to fairness, treating others as you would like to be treated. Fairness requires
treating all individuals equally and courteously, never exercising power
arbitrarily and never exploiting weaknesses or mistakes for personal or
corporate benefit.
3. LEADERSHIP
Demonstrated by a conscious effort to set a positive example of ethical
behavior, leadership is a commitment to excellence through ethical decision-
making. Businesses and business executives maintain their leads by
constantly improving operational efficiency, worker satisfaction and
customer approval.
4. INTEGRITY
Organizations and personnel demonstrate integrity through a consistency
between actions and words that inspires trust and credibility. Integrity also
means keeping promises, honoring commitments, meeting deadlines and
refusing to participate in unscrupulous activities or business dealings.
PRINCIPLES OF
ETHICS
16. 6. RESPECT
Respect is demonstrated by a full commitment to the human rights,
dignity, autonomy, interests and privacy of all personnel. It means
recognizing that everyone deserves equal respect and support for
sharing ideas and opinions, without fear of any penalty or form of
discrimination.
7. RESPONSIBILITY
Employees exhibit responsibility by taking full ownership of their
jobs, striving to be conscious of the emotional, financial and
business consequences of their actions. Taking their
responsibilities seriously also demonstrates employee maturity and
ability to do a job without needing strict supervision.
8. LOYALTY
Loyalty is proven by never disclosing information learned in
confidence and by remaining faithful to coworkers, clients,
business partners and suppliers. Loyal employees avoid conflicts of
interest, help build and protect the good reputation of their
company and help boost the morale of their coworkers.
9. LAW-ABIDING
Organizations must fully comply with all applicable laws and codes
from local, state and federal agencies. Law-abiding businesses and
personnel also adhere to industry and trade regulations,
marketplace standards and any additional mandatory
organizational policies, practices and procedures.
17. CONCLUSION
A business is a collection of different proprietorships.
Ethics is issues of right, wrong, fairness, and justice.
Therefore, business ethics places it focus on ethical
issues that arise in the commercial world. It is coming
to know what is right or wrongs as well as what is fair
or not fair in the workplace. In times of changes, such
as we go through people values are changing. What
managers and others take for granted now back then
was not.The real answer to business ethics is how a
business conducts itself. All marketers has to have
moral values with dealing with others. The finance
area has to have business ethics. Marketers should be
aware of how their behavior may influence or affect
the behavior of others in organizational relationships.
They should not demand, encourage or apply coercion
to obtain unethical behavior, in their relationships
with others, such as employees, suppliers, or
customers. The human resource function is to deal
with a variety of ethical challenges; it deals directly
with people employed by a company. The human
resources include numerous ethical pitfalls that
