Today we are going to talk about transforming your expectations. We used to dream about going to the moon and now it is about going to mars. Our expectations about what we can accomplish should be transformed - Bigger, faster, further and deeper. Cloud has transformed our lives and the way we communicate…. literal ways that the cloud has helped to transform businesses. This is our 4th year at Reinvent and going strong! We have been launching programs and tools to help you build and grow a business with AWS and today we are going to talk about how AWS is helping partners and customers transform their business.
Digital transformation refers to the changes associated with the application of digital technology in all aspects of human society. Digital transformation may be thought as the third stage of embracing digital technologies: digital competence → digital literacy → digital transformation. The latter stage means that digital usages inherently enable new types of innovation and creativity in a particular domain, rather than simply enhance and support the traditional methods. -
The last 12 months have been huge for cloud computing. Customers are transforming their business and migrating to the cloud at an increasing rate. Each and everyday there are compelling events where CIOs are faced with a decision to replace antiquated hardware, or renew a lease on a datacenter, or move to the cloud. This is happening thousands of times over, across customers large and small around the globe. Evidence shows that more are choosing to go to the cloud. For example:
“In 2014, the absolute growth of public cloud IaaS workloads surpassed the growth of on-premises workloads (of any type) for the first time.” Gartner
This is a monumental milestone, given the time that on premises IT has been the only option for customers. We are still at the very beginning of the transformation to the cloud. Collectively, we have the opportunity to accelerate this transformation and put the old world far in the rearview mirror.
Below is not an approved quote, but a potential talking point.
Equally interesting to the massive migration to the cloud is the reasons behind the move. In 2014, Oxford Economics and SAP collaborated on a survey of 200 senior business and IT executives about their adoption of cloud computing. They found that developing new products & services, creating new lines of business and entering new markets are the main drivers for these executives.
This is consistent with what our customers are telling us. Customers are leveraging the power of the AWS cloud to innovate and provide a better customer experience. Businesses need the cloud to stay competitive and to continue to delight customers.
Aviva with CSC
CSC have been selected as the strategic SI by Aviva and signed a global Master Services Agreement in August 2015. AWS are working in partnership with CSC to deliver an enterprise class platform to Aviva. CSC will provide a managed service wrap around for AWS and will also give Aviva the option to use hybrid cloud architectures should Aviva need to use that for applications they feel are better suited to that environment.
SEACO with Lemongrass
Global SAP migration to SAP (Lemongrass with talk during the keynote)
Kempinski Hotels
Kempinski was one of the first organisations to decide to move their Datacentre to AWS back in 2011. Cloudreach helped design, build and migrate all applications out of their Datacentre in Geneva to AWS. Kempinski Hotels wanted to focus on their core business and not on running IT infrastructure. They achieved significant cost savings and improved resilience across all applications. Cloudreach also provides ongoing 24/7 Operational Services and billing support for all AWS environments.
Customers from every market segment – MEDIA, MANUFATURING, CONSUMER GOODS, HEALTH CARE, FINANCIAL SERVICES
All of these customers deployed significant work with the help of a Partner
Customer Examples:
HESS with Nimbo – Divestiture prep. TWICE as fast to move IT workloads vs. On Prem.
Philips Health Care with Attunity – transfer datasets as large as 35 Million records to Redshift in 90 minutes
The three called out are all partner deals. Transport for London via their two tier partner arrangements with BAE Systems as their integrator and Attenda as their AWS centre of expertise, purchased the largest partner-led upfront RI deal in the UK this year. DVSA buys AWS managed services from Kainos and AWS consulting from Methods Digital while The National Trust purchases AWS managed services from Attenda and DR from Eduserv.
There are many others on the slide MoJ and Peterborough works with Arcus Global, ESA works with The Server Labs, University of Oxford works with Tribal Group…..etc….
DVSA
Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency is an executive agency sponsored by the Department of Transport. DVSA employs 4500 staff to set standards for driving and motorcycling, and making sure drivers, vehicle operators and MOT garages follow roadworthiness standards.
DVSA (Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency) was constrained with their previous implementation in terms of availability, performance and scalability.
The current solution is used by over 80.000 garages (30m transactions per annum) to register the mandatory tests for motor vehicles in the United Kingdom.
Since the DVSA service has migrated both availability & performance of the service has significantly improved. So much so that the customer is now actively evaluating other projects for migration to AWS. They trust our platform and they appreciate the level of support and expertise that AWS continues to make available to them.
NATIONAL TRUST
National Trust protects and opens to the public many historic houses and gardens, as well as industrial monuments and mills. The largest membership organization in the UK, the National Trust protects and preserves historic houses, landscapes, and gardens.
It runs its single supporter view (SSV) data warehouse on AWS technologies, enabling a 360-view of all its supporters multiple relationships and interactions.. Using AWS for SSV, theTrust has kept TCO to a third of the cost of a traditional data warehouse, while gaining significant insight into visiting habits to maximize marketing efforts and drive the organization forward.
TRANSPORT FOR LONDON
Transport for London is responsible for 24 million journeys every single day managing the day-to-day operation of London’s public transport network, main roads, planning and building new infrastructure.
Transport for London (TfL) has been able to build a website with a greatly improved user experience across mobile, tablets and desktops that can rapidly scale to 30 x normal traffic in busy periods and is now regularly supporting 81% of Londoners and over 20 million visits per month using AWS. As a result 90% of customers now say they are satisfied with TfL’s website services, the highest number ever recorded. TfL is London’s transport authority, responsible for all forms of transport from tube, DLR and trains to trams, buses, taxis and cycles, walking and driving. TfL has always been an innovative and forward looking organisation so wanted to build an infrastructure that could support future growth of the city and their services and could help them to innovate fast on behalf of customers so turned to AWS. Their previous infrastructure was constraining TfL from innovating and expanding their services as quickly as they would have liked. Using AWS TfL is able to supply their web application across many platforms and devices and innovate quicker for customers. The scalability of the AWS platform was immediately visible to TfL when, one month after launching on AWS, industrial action on the Tube led to significantly increased website demand, peaking at over one million pages an hour. The new service performed flawlessly and maintained full availability throughout.

The partners who provide robust offerings in these areas are the ones who are winning today and will be the long-term winners in this market.
I am excited to add the United Kingdom to that list! The AWS UK region will be our third in the European Union (EU), and we're shooting to have it ready by the end of 2016 (or early 2017). This region will provide even lower latency and strong data sovereignty to local users.
More startups, small and medium businesses, large enterprises, universities, and government organizations all over the world are moving to the AWS Cloud faster than ever before. We are committed to meeting our customers’ increasing needs for capacity and for powerful AWS services that eliminate the heavy lifting of the underlying IT infrastructure -- allowing them to focus more of their precious resources on their core business.
Leading UK organizations were among the early adopters of the cloud when we first started AWS back in 2006 and we continue to help them drive increased agility, lower IT costs, and easily scale globally. Here are some examples of how our UK customers are using the AWS platform:
Hot Startups – Shazam, Hailo, Omnifone, Yplan, SwiftKey, Aire, GoSquared
Mid-sized Organisations – Haven Power, Holiday Extras, Exeter Family Friendly, Royal Opera House, Total Jobs,
Retail Companies – Shop Direct, Nisa Retail, Kurt Geiger, Sport Pursuit
Enterprise Companies – Unilever, ATOC, National Rail Enquiries
Media and Entertainment – BBC, Channel 4, ITV, News UK, The FT, Trinity Mirror, The Guardian
Public Sector & Not-for-Profit – UCAS, Makewaves, JustGiving
The new region, coupled with the existing AWS regions in Dublin and Frankfurt, will provide customers with quick, low-latency access to websites, mobile applications, games, SaaS applications, big data analysis, Internet of Things (IoT) applications, and more.
Lemongrass is a SAP Technology Service Provider.
We are focused on helping our clients get better and drive value from their investment in SAP.
Unlike most consulting organisations, we actively promote the use of software solutions. We aim to identify solutions that supplement our services.
Today we focus on our “Improve SAP User Experience” line of business, where we have selected the Movilizer to enable agile, rapid and cost effective deployment of SAP on Mobile Devices. Because we think it deals with all the challenges of today’s CIO.
So what are those challenges:
Sales
Our most successful partner have dedicated sales organizations with a goal to have 100% achieve their business and technical accreditations. It’s part of the job requirements.
Successful partners also reward “hunting” more heavily with new customer incentives. They are also putting their software on the Marketplace and tying compensation to their AWS sales teams.
Another thing our most success partners do is make sure they have sellers that specialize in specific solution offerings like Big Data, along with 1-2 sales specialists who can talk about an Enterprise transformation methodology when customers want to migrate faster to AWS
Delivery
Our top partners have an organizational goal to have a percent of their overall tech staff achieve their architecture certification
Finding time to study can be difficult for billable resources, many companies are creating incentive programs with bonuses for each certification a resource receives
Some partners are creating large, additional incentives for mult-certified resources along with a Master or Professional designation that achieves all certifications
Lastly, our most effective partners have created an AWS university that combines AWS coursework, custom IP like chef recipes, customer shadowing, and other defined ramp exercises that allow a new AWS resource to graduate with a working knowledge in 6-8 weeks

For Developer Tools, we have a trio of services: CodeCommit, CodeDeploy and CodePipeline.
To move faster, teams are changing how they work, and tools are an important part of this transition.
To move faster, teams are transitioning from monolithic apps to micro-services, from large teams to small ones, from discipline silos to DevOps, and from big infrequent releases to continuous releases.
Our Developer Tools are designed with this new era in mind, with a heavy focus on automation.
At each step, we are providing opportunities for partners to integrate, because we know that developers will evolve their processes rather than take more risky revolutionary steps. We see customers mixing and matching by using a combination of our AWS services with partner offerings such as GitHub, Jenkins, and BlazeMeter.
We’re eager to work with ISV partners in this area, and also see tremendous opportunities for SIs and VARs to help customers with the big transition from the way they have traditionally been working to a higher velocity delivery model centered around DevOps.
Similarly, for Management Tools, we have partners playing a prominent role.
To support these partners, we provide high leverage interfaces to AWS, such as CloudTrail for API activity, Config for Configuration Management, and CloudWatch for monitoring, alarming and logs.
These higher level services have been well-received by partners who specialize in Management Tools.
We see many customers blending AWS Management Tools seamlessly with tools that they are already using, such as Splunk and SumoLogic, while also mixing in newer cloud-focused tools such as CloudCheckr and pagerduty. For example, one of the most popular ways to consume data from AWS CloudTrail and AWS Config is via partner offerings like Splunk that aggregate data from many sources and use these as inputs for data visualization and analysis.
We see compelling opportunities for management tool partners to integrate with our services and provide enterprises with a modern set of enterprise controls – ones that meet the fundamental needs of Central IT but without destroying key benefits of the cloud such as elasticity and self-service provisioning.

Key Points:
Significant market opportunity and growing
Demand for Managed Service Providers has never been greater.
Falling infrastructure costs + more AWS innovation equates to more application development & rapid change = Cloud MSP Opportunity (particularly in areas like compliance)
Cloud Managed Services are different, require different cost structures, resources, tools, and processes
To align to utility based pricing models, Cloud MSPs need to earn their customer business every day; drives better customer experiences with MSPs
We have a program to help Partners seize the opportunity
Our standard is used to establish a bar and help partners build to the experience AWS customers are asking for
We have 40+ audited Partners and growing with a full audit schedule
It’s not too late to get into this market – still early, but need AWS skills and knowledge
According to a recent report published by 451 Research, managed services revenue within the worldwide total cloud market is projected to be at $110 billion in 2018 with a compound annual growth rate of 25.6% from 2014 – 2018. Managed Services revenue (CAGR) is growing 60 percent faster than infrastructure-only revenue.
Customers are seeking capable Cloud MSPs
Customers see the value of moving workloads to the cloud, but they do not want to focus resources on migrating, running, and optimizing those workloads. They want trusted partners to advise them on the best ways to move workloads to AWS, including customization that may be required of their on-prem applications to take advantage of the AWS platform. Those partners build trusting relationships, so they want those same partners to continue operating their workloads on AWS. Companies want to remain lean and agile and focus available resources on their core business, while remaining in compliance with their industries regulations.
At the same time customers demand managed service providers, they recognize that cloud managed services are different. With Infrastructure as code, cloud MSPs need different skills to advise and run workloads. And because automation plays a key role in cloud managed services, you don’t need as many people to run cloud managed services. And the customer demand to stay fast and innovative leads to a DevOps approach to managed services in the cloud. Customers want qualified cloud MSPs that know their business and specialize in areas like continuous compliance.
This is why we created the AWS Managed Service Program. Customers recognized that cloud managed services were different, but didn’t know how to evaluate and select qualified MSPs to help them along all phases of the customer engagement lifecycle (plan > design > migrate/build > run > optimize).
We created a standard for migrating/building, running, and optimizing those workloads and leverage a third-party audit firm to evaluate our channel partners against that standard. That audit process and recognition of partner due diligence has resulted in more than 100% increase in revenue for those partners.
