Learning Objectives:
- Learn how to use AWS and partner solutions to quickly and easily protect on-premises applications
- Understand how AWS Technology Partners can enhance native protection mechanisms.
- Learn how storage gateways from AWS and Technology Partners can help you establish a hybrid cloud approach quickly
Backup and recovery is a great first step to reducing physical datacenter infrastructure with the cloud, but it is tough to understand the various models for on-prem, hybrid and cloud-based data. This tech talk will discuss multiple hybrid cloud data protection approaches, including backup partner solution demonstrations. You will also learn how to protect in-cloud workloads using AWS Technology Partner backup solutions, as well as the differences between cloud backup and archive use cases.

5. Backup and Recovery
• Backup and recovery use cases protect data from logical errors such as
system failure, application error, or accidental deletion. Backups can be run
on-premise to the cloud, either directly to a cloud target or via a gateway
appliance, or within the cloud.
• Backup is not archive
– Backup represents a point in time copy of the data.
– Archived data is the only authoritative copy of the data.
6. Arch #1: Hybrid backup to the cloud
• Backup data flows from on-premises into AWS object storage services
• One of the most common use cases
• Earns Trust with customers
File Gateway
(AWS SG)
7. Arch #2: Hybrid ROBO backups to the cloud
• Provides backup targets for on-premises while having central control in AWS
• Central backup server is protected from individual site issues
• Restores can be quickly redirected to other remote sites, or even within AWS
File Gateway
(AWS SG)
8. • Utility pricing
• No infrastructure requirement
• Scales on demand
Arch #3: Hybrid Backup-aaS to the cloud
9. • Fully encapsulated within AWS, also protects EC2+EBS
• Requires no external resources
• Easy to expand and provision
Arch #4: All-in backup in the cloud
