Started in 2013 (Stone Age in AWS Time)
When we started in 2013 there was no AWS IoT, Amazon Kinesis,
AWS Lambda, or Aurora. We were a small team and had a tight time
line.
We saw the pace AWS was releasing new services and knew we had
to build a system that could change and take advantage of new AWS
services.

Scaling My AcuRite
• Amazon S3 write limits, went to writing files to S3 once every 24
hours
• Scaled linearly to 10k devices
• DB Connections to Amazon RDS PostgreSQL
• Needed to cache connections to DB and Redis
• Pipelining Redis operations
• Hard Coding values versus DB Look up and Caching
• Scaled to Amazon Kinesis stream with 600+ shards due to AWS

• My AcuRite has given us experience with Amazon Kinesis
• KCL Supports multiple languages, but really it’s the same Java
library
