1. Identity
Definition
The stable, defining characteristics of a person that
makes them an individual.
This is one elementary subject that most
Christians still don't fully understand, and it is a
powerful key to spiritual DEVELOPMENT AND
GROWTH for countless of believers around the
world today!
2. Knowing your Identity
Importance
- It enables us to know the truth that sets us free
- Enables us to identify with the promises of God’s
word
- Gives us power and spiritual authority over
sickness and the enemy (Devil)
- Gives others a picture of who Jesus is
- Enables us to fellowship and identify with
God, Christ and the Holy Spirit
3. Not knowing our Identity
Disadvantages
- We won’t love and relate with God as we ought to
- Trusting God will become an issue
- Living in mediocrity as we have no authority
- It becomes difficult to truly fulfill our purpose; you
won’t live your life to the fullest
- We struggle with issues of self-esteem, self acceptance
and we will always seek to please others for acceptance
4. What is therefore our Identity?
Don't believe you're just an old forgiven sinner just
because some pastor tells you so.
Look these things up in the Word of God for yourself and
know the truth. For Jesus said clearly that if we continue in
His Word, we will know the truth and the truth will set us
free!
5. Our identity is
I am loved by God and the blood of Christ has made me
worthy
- Not because of what we’ve done but because of who we are
- Nothing we do can add to this love or subtract from it. Even
when we sin, the love of God is constant in our lives
- For while we were still sinners Christ died for us (Rom 5: 8-
"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet
sinners, Christ died for us.")
- God loves us with the same kind of love he has towards
Christ. (John 17:23- "I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made
perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast
loved them, as thou hast loved me.")
6. Our Identity is that
We are loved and made worthy not because of
anything we have done or anything we will do.
In fact without truly appreciating this fact:-
- We cannot be filled with the fullness of God until we
come to know of His deep love for us (Eph 3:17-19 "That
Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in
love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and
length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth
knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God)
- We will trust God more and as such sin will fall away
from us.
7. What is this Love of the Father?
1st John 2:15-16 (Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone
loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world
— the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has
and does — comes not from the Father but from the world.)
Most be people look at this verse and think:-
- This guy is sinning because he does not love God that
much; but look at it very well…
The verse means
- One indulges in these things because he does not
understand how much God loves him! And that’s why
he is worldly.
8. Deep explanation
- Every time you indulge in the flesh (lust of the
flesh, lust of the eyes, you are proud) its because you
do not know how much God loves you and that’s why
you are compensating by feeling up the insecurities
- That’s why one is jealous, as they think that when
someone is blessed they have less! They do not
believe in a loving big God who can bless someone and
still have much, much more remaining for you.
- Understand that God does not have to bless others at
your expense.
- You don’t have to be jealous; it reveals a small heart!
9. Explanation Continued
- Why do we steal? We do not believe that God loves us so much
and that he will provide for us
- Why do we lie? We do not believe that God can defend us for
telling the truth
- Why do we commit adultery and fornication? We do not believe
that God can satisfy us in our singleness or marriages
In other words the Consciousness of God’s love for us which is
our true identity is not in us. We don’t realize that God loves us
so much more than we can imagine. Ephesians 3:17-19, "That Christ may
dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to
comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know
the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.“
John 15:13, “Greater love has no-one than this, that he lay down his life for his
friends.”
10. Strong foundation
The moment you realize that God love you:
- You will have a strong foundation (sense of identity) where
you will know in every situation that comes your way it’s
meant for your good because God loves you and you trust
Him.
- You will have an improved self esteem and sense of
belonging. After all God loves me. You will not seek to
identify with people or things just for acceptance.
- Lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and pride of life these
things will just fall off
- Even when we sin again and again we will still run to the
Father as we know that He will help us because He loves us.
11. Conclusion
It’s only through the realization and being activity
conscience that God loves us will be able to truly enjoy
Christianity and the power that comes through being
saved.
In addition, this realization will enable us to break free
from sinful bondages and crippling mentality. Hence
enabling us to become what we truly ought to be.
Therefore, realize that you are loved not because of
anything you have done, but because of everything He
has done. Always confess this to yourself. I am LOVED!
And that’s your identity!
