2. NURSING ROUNDS
 INTRODUCTION:
 Clinical Teaching Method
 A Small group of nursing professionals assemble on the patient’s
bedside to discuss the routine nursing care provided to patients so
that efficient nursing care be ensured.
 Meanwhile, nursing students can also be taught about nursing care.

3.  DEFNITION:
 It is a clinical teaching method in which a group of nursing students
are taken for a selected patient’s bedside visit by one or more nursing
faculties to discuss about the progress of the patient and further plan
of care , which provides the students first-hand learning experience.
 A Nursing round is a tour into the patient’s ward to provide the
student a learning experience.
 PURPOSES:
 1. To aware the staff and students with all patients admitted in the
ward.
 2. To clarify the terminology studied.
 3. To demonstrate the effects of drugs.
 4. To plan and provide skilful nursing care.
 5. To study the disease condition
 6. To demonstrate the specific clinical features of particular diseases
condition , which are important for planning the nursing care
interventions.

5. ADVANTAGES OF NURSING ROUNDS
 Provides opportunity to learn about the patient’s progress
through the highly experienced nursing experts.
 Provides an opportunity to students to learn about the
effects of different drugs , nursing interventions and
change in the plan of nursing management .
 Facilitates to learn about more patients in short time .
 Nursing rounds motivates students to develop an ability to
classify the patients into high-risk, moderate-risk, and
low-risk categories depending on the severity of illness.

6. DISADVANTAGES
 It is not a suitable method of teaching for bigger group of
students.
 Bedside discussion may be uncomfortable or
discomforting.
 It may be a cause of anxiety
 Requires carefully planning

7. NURSING REPORTS
 DEFINITION:
 Reporting is the process of communicating knowledge gained/learnt while providing
care to patient’s , to other health care team members.
 A nursing report is a document that nurses hand over to others at shift change to let
them know the patient’s conditions.
 OBJECTIVES:
 Reports are essential tools of communication between the members of the health
team .
 Good reports will avoid duplication of work.
 Good reports will indicate the efficiency of the health team (student nurses )in
carrying out their assignments.
 Reports will tell us why a particular procedure is done or not done.
 Good report will tell us about the problems relating to supplies and equipments.


8. Types of reporting:
1.Oral Report:
>>>oral reports are given when the information is for immediate use
and not for permanency.
2.written Report:
>>> written reports are to be written when the information to be used
by several personnel which is more or less of permanent.
3.Change of shift report:
>>>Most commonly used reporting in nursing .
>>>At the end of each shift nurses report information about their
assigned client’s to the nurses working on the next shift .
4.Transfer reports:
>>>It involves communication of information about clients from nurse
on the sending to the nurse on the receiving ward.

9. 5.Incident report:
>>>writing a detailed report on mistakes or accidents that has
taken place in the care of patients.
6.Evaluation Reports:
>>>Monthly evaluation reports of students are sent to the principal
of school/college of nursing or to the head nurses. This will help
the students to get an awareness about their performance and to
make further improvement.
