1) The author had negative experiences with labeling and unfair treatment by teachers throughout her education, but found encouragement from three educators who saw her potential. This inspired her to become a teacher who looks past behavior.
2) As an effective teacher, the author will establish clear rules and consequences in her classroom management. She will also incorporate higher-order thinking techniques like Bloom's Taxonomy to prepare students for success.
3) The author aims to provide a well-rounded education for students by continuing her own learning, being involved in the community, and keeping parents informed and involved in their children's learning. Her goal is to be an impactful teacher.

Philosophy of Education
Ms. Amy Davis
UNSATISFACTORY. Unsatisfactory is the only term I remember from elementary. In
middle school it was bad behavior. In high school a teacher altered my grades due to my “poor
behavior”. In college, as a senior I spoke my mind in class and again my grades were effected. A
professor marked questions wrong on my exam when I had answered them correctly. When I
asked my professor to correct my exam he replied “no” followed with “life is not fair”.
Throughout my education I can only recall three educators who looked past my behavior and
saw the potential hidden within me. For these reasons I have shied away from being an educator
even though I have always been a teacher. I taught my first Bible study class when I was 14
years old. In college I was a Chemistry teaching assistant and tutor for 4 years. After college, I
started a career as a Clinical Allergy Specialist providing patient education for a private practice.
Now as an outreach coordinator I will launch my first educational program for youth and
children.
During the course of my life I have realized I want to be the teacher I never had, an
impact teacher. I want to help mold our future leaders, our future teachers, doctors, and lawyers.
I want to show students that I can look past their behavior and see a student for who they really
are based on achievements. Too many times students are labeled because of their behavior.
These labels follow them from school to school where only the “negatives” are acknowledged. I
find this kind of labeling unsatisfactory. I want to be an impact teacher. I want to provide
encouragement and positivity. I want to be an impact teacher. I want to lead by example and
show students that they too can be leaders. I will teach with integrity and provide a safe place
where students can learn with integrity. I want to be an impact teacher. I will be an impact
teacher. I will make a difference.

Harry Wong says in his book The First Days of School, an effective teacher uses consequences
not punishment when managing students. Following his guide, I will incorporate a discipline
plan into my classroom management strategies. As an effective teacher my discipline plan will
include rules, consequences and rewards. It is the responsibility of the educator to set limits and
expectations for students to follow. When students have limits and are following procedures
learning is taking place. As an effective teacher I will create a safe environment by setting limits,
teaching procedures and providing students with the best reward, which is the satisfaction of a
job well done.
Lesson mastery is key in my classroom. I will teach higher order thinking. Using
Bloom’s Taxonomy as a part of my instructional strategies, students will learn to think critically,
analyze differences and make judgements based on their learning. When students learn at higher
order levels they are being prepped for success in the real world. For achievement in the
classroom to occur, lesson mastery must occur. In my classroom students will set goals for
themselves. Having students set goals for themselves teaches responsibility. When students are
responsible for their own achievements, they learn more and will strive to reach their goals. How
a student achieves is based on how an educator teaches. As a part of my instructional strategy
students will participate in cooperative learning, learn how to identify similarities and
differences, summarize, generate and evaluate hypotheses. As an effective teacher, I will
reinforce effort, provide recognition, give cues, ask questions and use advanced organizers to
incite higher order thinking. Educational research tells us that student learning and achievement
improves when Marzano’s essential nine techniques are incorporated into a teacher’s
instructional strategies.

In order to provide a well-rounded educational experience for my students, I will
continue to learn new and different content in order to provide real world examples. I will be
involved in the community. When a teacher knows the community, the demographics, the people
living in the surrounding areas, they are learning about their students. An effective teacher knows
their students and can sense when disturbances arise. I will be active in my school, participate in
school administration, attend professional development, learn new strategies and techniques to
help students achieve. I will get to know the parents, provide feedback and updates and keep
them involved in their children’s education. I will be an impact teacher.
