 Alzheimer's was
discovered in 1906 by
Alois Alzheimer. He
described a new
disease that caused
memory loss, the first
case occurred in a
woman of 51
years, called Augusta.
 It is an irreversible, progressive disease of
the brain that slowly destroys memory
and thinking skills, and eventually even
the ability to carry out the simplest tasks.

 Memory loss
 Difficulty performing familiar tasks.
 Difficulties in orientation in time and
space.
 Language problems.
 Changes in personality and mood.
 In the final stages, deterioration of
musculature and mobility.
 Age: The older the person, the greater
the risk of developing Alzheimer's
disease.
 Genetics: Increases the chance of the
disease if they have a family history.
 Síndrome de down
 Environmental factors: The environment
and lifestyle also affect your risk.
 1.History clinic: the doctor will have to
evaluate the medical history of the
patient and his family.
 2. Exam Neuropsychological: the doctor
will have to ensure that the symptoms
presented are from a form of dementia.
 There is no cure for Alzheimer's disease
but there are medications that can help
control your symptoms, depression and
hallucinations that may occur as the
disease progresses.
 4 drugs called, cholinesterase inhibitors:
Aricept, Cognex, Exelon y Razadyne.
 Take 2 beers a day decreases your risk.
 Strong coffee or wine.
 The first symptom may be the loss of
smell.
 The larger the size of the head more
protects against Alzheimer's.
