This document discusses Philips' efforts to raise awareness of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) and promote the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs). It notes that SCA is a leading cause of death and that immediate CPR and defibrillation can significantly increase survival rates. Philips supports SCA awareness through AED training, social media campaigns on platforms like World Heart Day, and a partnership with PulsePoint to register AED locations and alert users when SCA occurs nearby. The presentation encourages organizations to make AEDs available and promote CPR/AED training to help more victims of SCA.

False
For every minute that passes without CPR and defibrillation, a victim’s chance of
survival decreases by 7%-10%.
After 10 minutes, less than 5% of sudden cardiac arrest victims survive.
On average, EMS teams in the U.S. take 6 - 12 minutes to arrive on the scene of a SCA.

AEDs are lightweight, battery-operated, portable devices that are easy to use. Learning how
to use an AED and taking a CPR course are helpful. However, if trained personnel aren't
available, untrained people also can use an AED to help save someone's life.

19. Non-Profit Partnership
PulsePoint Public App
Issue:
• Without public AED registration
requirements, it can be hard to find one
when you need it.
• It can take time for someone who is
CPR/AED trained to arrive at the scene.
Solution:
• PulsePoint’s free app alerts you if there is a
person suffering a SCA nearby and tells you
where the closest AED is.
• There have been 26,000+ PulsePoint cardiac
arrest activations. 2-3 responders per
activation. More than 1 million app users.
19
20. Non-Profit Partnership
PulsePoint Verified Responder App
Issue:
• 80% of cardiac incidents occur in a private
residence,* where the PulsePoint app won’t send
the public.
Solution:
• The PulsePoint Verified Responder App, a pilot
study in partnership with Philips. Launched in 4
cities, with 1 more planned.
• Philips donating 550 AEDs to off-duty firefighters
who participate in the program.
• Extensive media and social coverage elevates
awareness about sudden cardiac arrest.
