- 8. What is Gluten-Free?
Another characteristic of the Paleo Diet is that it is a Gluten-Free diet. Gluten is a
protein found in foods processed from wheat, barely, and rye. Gluten helps dough to
rise and keep its shape. Gluten can also be found in beauty products. It is often the
basis for imitation meats (chicken, duck, fish, pork, and beef). You’ll have to do a little
research to find gluten-free products but they do exist and more and more are being
produced as the demand for them continues to increase.

- 9. Paleo on a Budget
Buying Gluten-Free, Sugar or Salt Free products can be expensive and buying grass-fed
meats can be more than you can afford on a weekly basis. However, with a little
planning and web research you can make the Paleo lifestyle affordable. Start by taking
a trip to your local Whole Foods, Earth Fare, or Publix and comb the aisle looking at
products you may want to try. Then go to the store websites, manufacture websites
and even Facebook Fan Pages and look for coupons. While you’re surfing the web also
look for local growers and ranchers who often have co-op programs that you can join
and get your produce and meat cheaper and fresher than in the grocery stores.

- 10. Sample Meal Plan and Recipes
Now that you know more about the Paleo diet and lifestyle you are now ready to get
started. To make things easy I’ve included some of my favorite recipes to get you going
on a 21 day meal plan. The plan includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and even
dessert options for 21 days of some of the best meals you’ve ever eaten. Not only are
they tasty but also full of good nutrition. Before I discovered Paleo I considered myself
to be a decent cook, but I realize that I cut a lot of corners that I can’t afford to cut any
more. On occasion, I’ll still go to the prepared food section at Whole Foods and pick
up lunch or dinner. But I use that as a free day as oppose to a regular part of my
lifestyle. I’ve found that by spending a little extra time on the last weekend of the
month I can do monthly prep work that helps me put out good food seven days a
week, four weeks a month.
