3. At 26, Andrew Baker has already spent a lifetime on the water. Growing up in
Northern Ireland, he learnt to sail at an early age on Strangford Lough,
competing in a wide range of boats, from Laser dinghies to high performance
yachts, and over the last two decades he has represented Northern Ireland at
numerous international events and regattas.
Turning his passion into a career and taking
his sailing to the next level, he is now making
steps in solo offshore racing, with the ultimate
goal to one day emulate the feats of Dame
Ellen MacArthur and win the Vendee Globe,
the legendary round the world race.
To achieve this vision will required full
commitment from myself as well as
support from key individuals and
sponsors who share this common
goal.

4. The Vendée Globe is a round-the-world single-handed
yacht race. The 30,000mile course through the world's most
ferocious oceans is sailed non-stop and without assistance.
A feat no Irish sailor has ever completed.
The race was founded in 1989 and has taken place every
four years. The race is a serious test of individual
endurance, and is regarded by many as the ultimate in
ocean racing.
THE CONCEPT OF THE VENDÉE GLOBE IS
SIMPLE AND EASY TO UNDERSTAND: YOU HAVE
TO SAIL AROUND THE WORLD ALONE WITHOUT
STOPPING AND WITHOUT ASSISTANCE.
5. WHY SAILING
Unlike conventional sports sailing provides a fantastic human element. The sailing itself is a huge test of
endurance an adventure anyone can relate with not to mention the considerable hands on involvement
people can receive by being part of the campaign.
A sponsor cant bring their friends to Formula one race and have a go driving the car, on the boat they can.
Campaigns of this nature in the past have generated returns on investment 4:1 and with the ever growing
influence of social media there is no reason these numbers wont be achievable or indeed increase.
WHY VENDÉE GLOBE
Over 4,000 Mountaineers have climbed Everest,
550 Astronauts have been into Space,
Only 70 Sailors have completed the Vendee Globe Race,
0 British Winners…
6. 2017 2018 2019 2020
The ideal Vendée Globe Campaign would be built over a four year schedule of sponsor activation, boat development,
training and racing. Over this time there are races to be used as steps and provide much of the activation and ROI.
The goal is to complete the series of five races that constitute to the Ocean Masters World Championships of which the
Vendée is one.
7. The Figaro racing circuit really is at the pinnacle of solo offshore racing and a
fundamental step towards higher profile events such as the Vendée Globe.
2017 CAMPAIGN
Selected for the Artemis offshore academy Andrew's first year was funded to
enable making this first step possible. His second year was fronted by
various partners of the academy and doing a lot of the work himself to
reduce costs where possible.
For the coming 2017 season Andrew hopes to continue on this
journey build further upon the learning curve formed and enter his
first qualifying event on the road to the 2020 Vendée Globe.
Securing sponsors and funding alongside the support from
Whitecap Ltd will see Andrew once again return to the start
line of these prestigious events.
After two successful seasons in the Figaro Class Andrew has taken a
huge step on his journey constantly placing highly within the first year
'Rookie' devision and improving on these results year two.
Key events for the 2017 Season are the Transat
Jacques Vabre and Rolex Fastnet Race.
These are both double handed races to be
entered in either IMOCA 60 Class or Class 40.
An introduction on smaller platform of the Solitaire
du Figaro is an affordable way to launch the brand
and give background to the campaign. It will give
sponsors the first opportunity to get a taste for the
project and refine how its managed to achieve
greater returns.

8. Regarded as the one of the most
competitive and highly dynamic racing
circuits in the world, it is an integral part
of the learning curve for budding sailors
building towards solo offshore success
and, ultimately the Vendee Globe.
The 2185 mile course is raced in 33ft ‘one
design’ keelboat, the Beneteau Figaro II. All
yachts are identical bar their branding,
leaving it to the talents of the skippers to
secure a result. Physically and mentally
demanding, it is highly competitive and all
encompassing. Like all solo offshore racing,
it requires a unique sailing skill set which
makes the competitors some of the greatest
in the sport.

9. The Transat Jacques Vabre is a yachting
race that follows the historic coffee
trading route between France and
Brazil.
The Transat Jacques Vabre is a major
date on the calendar, taking place every
other year. It is still a two-handed race
and the pairs of sailors are formed.
10. Professional Managed Campaign
Andrew’s campaign will professionally managed by a third party company. Andrew has previously
worked with a variety of project management companies such as OC Sport, fourthcape and Whitecap
Ltd. All of which have expressed an interest to continue their support. These companies have practical
and commercial experience within the yachting industry working in a variety of areas from new build,
refit, skippering and campaign management on the racing side through to yacht management for
private owners.
They have brought high profile multi million pound projects to fruition and offer managerial, technical
and professional expertise to both privately campaigned yachts and sponsored sailing campaigns.
Using an outside company to manage Andrew’s campaign will ensure it is a success both on and off the
water, helping him to keep his costs as low as possible and ensuring he has all of the necessary
support to reach his targets.
Sailing provides a truly energising and commercially rewarding environment for brands:
• Exclusivity and campaign ownership
• Global marketing platform
• Powerful & influential audience
• Uncluttered marketplace
• Credible environmental messages
• Ethically sound
• Shared values

Visualisation of the
scale / sizes of the
boats and branding
concept.

meters makes an IMOCA 60
an eye catching billboard.
Its size brings with it a
commanding presence and
great corporate atmosphere.
12. Andrew will be available for
appearances, talks and other
engagements to promote the
organisation and brand.
This can be a great feature
utilised to engage staff and
clients during meetings and
promotional days.
Through out the campaign there
will be various forms of media
exposure and brand awareness.
This will be promoted and
managed by a dedicated media
team and there will be features
both locally and abroad.

play on the only Irish Skipper within
the Irelands Media.

corporate hospitality using the
company boat - the boat can be
brought to locations for promotional
sailing days, and you can bring key
