Funding in certain areas seems to be lacking? How can we help? This seems like a
BIG challenge = SUSTAINABILITY SURPRISED me-Not all chna’s have same amount
$$. Real meaning = Future Conversations. Lots of Good Change! Were on the move!

All INTER-CHNA weekend conference.
Lack of “one-stop-shop” communication.
Can we do a web-blog-info sharing portal?
Some CHNA members aren’t certain of their individuals well in that CHNA.
Challenge: How much work we still have to do!

WOW! I’m Impressed.
Change’s ARE At HAND!!!

-Frustrated
-Surprised
-Hopeful
-Reinterate the power of process

Noticed large ranges:
-Shifting focus from macro to micro
-cleaning house for services on Policy influences as wither unified or separate
understanding of CHNA function

Re-branding.
Main website – local sites

Interest level is High for ADDRESSING Higher-Level ISSUES

We need to have continued opportunity for collaboration.
Idea! Can we agree to focus on one issue as a group?
We need to identify an issue we can accomplish together
[Strategic plan for the South Coast focusing on 1 issue as a whole that we can affect
positively]
Surprised at the lack of public forum and connected effort to more CHNA work
forward…Also very surprised to learn of disconnect of CHNA work to the public
health model…although people seem to be demanding more of a communication.
Omplains on the social detriments of health was only just beginning to be discussed,
which I think only more loudly calls for a comprehensive strategic approach to
CHNA conalsoration in the future. As a newcomer to CHNAs-I am able to now see the
strengths and challenges.

If it ain’t broke, let’s keep it that way! Primary prevention. We all could benefit from
education, What’s at the cutting edge in public health? We are the leadership in SE
Mass. We can change the way we do our work!
Reframe our communities in teams of assets and strategies instead of deficits and
needs. 1. common issue to address across CHNAs.

Let Us be Out Best Selves!
    1. the need for collaboration working toward prevention.
    2. Hoe far our CHNA has come in comparison to others did we all need to
continue to grow and make a difference in our communities
    3. Feeling of powerlessness against the meulaliter of reactive health vs.
       proactive prevention healthier lifestyles.
WE AS INTERCHNA NEED TO MERGE OUR EFFORTS ADDRESSING IMP ISSUES

Recognition that change needs all of us to be on the “same page” and work together.
This is a big undertaking but we are ready.
The progression from individual health imperatives to more global/political
sustainable ideas was impressive.

This group needs a forum to continue this conversation in a timely and accessible
manner. (ie. Something online vs live meetings)
Networking
• People to people is the best.
• As much as social networking is great-there’s so much more to face to face.
• There is such a wealth of talent and gifts in this room.
• We need a website to be able to share our information and tools so we’re no all
   reinventing the wheel.

Separately
• Here’s where the social networking tool of the web can work to our joint
   advantage.

Networking and Interacting with other people. Shared vision across communities.
Holistic approach to wellness. Assets –mapping. Outcomes. Making lives better-
improvement*

-Branding –How; why it is valuable/important
-We are part of a larger community w/complimentary (if not the same/similar)
goals-to improve community health!
-More interesting & stimulating then expected to be.
-more of a means to begin connections then had been anticipated

Enjoyed progressive thinking excerises
Saw common themes and would like to see results and “action-able” and achievable
next steps.
Felt genuine “sense of purpose” from attendees.
Gap between “thinking big” yet “acting small”
Despite openness of group, stereotypes still exist i.e. perceptions of hospitals, social
service, human service.

Finding others doing the same great work.
Learning from them.
Widening my network.
Hearing different voices that make me think differently.
“Stepping stones” on the…”pathway of compassion”
GARDENS

From:
Power over=
Silos, hierarchy, competition, fear, scarcity
To:
Power with= bridges, circles, cooperation and collaboration, trust, abundance

Let’s burst out of our individual CHNA bubbles and really get to know one another
as people, as passionate public healthers, less formally, more funly.

*Build on commonalities and shared strengths-ONE message (clear) to UNITE
missions-mobilize and start the conversation-ADVOCATE for change one tweet,
phone call, letter at a time.
We need more opportunities to connect/converse-in person and through social
media . 2 way converstation.

Interchna- collaborates to reach legislative attention and change policy.

How we all seem to think alike_________________
The number of ideas ________________________
To think regionally instead of locally

-We need to continue to conversation
-Build capacity for strong legislative voice on issues we share
-Prepare for casinos impact
-secure commitment for P.H. revenue sharing/ear marks
-Engage new legislators
-share info/communicate messages across CHNA motivators

The rich variety and talent and skills of fellow CHNA members. Awesome passionate
group-
Challenged by trying to keep all information sorted through. Need more time!
Not crazy about “café” would rather stay w/one group for discussion

-possibilities, next steps
       - all doing/actions
-surprised at how difficult it is for us not to immediately talk about solutions/next
steps
-challenge- who is missing (schools, legislators)
       -how to engage.

We share a tremendous store of common knowledge and experience .
We don’t get together often enough to do this!

-Great Sharing
-Informative
-Great Communication
-Humanity at its best
-Endless possibilities for our communities, citizens, and future generations

We shared a huge amount of information today. I have a much better understanding
on how CHNA works. I was surprised to hear different CHNA’s have their own name.
The CAFÉ was a challenge with so many ideas being said at once.

Real Meaning:
That collectively as state-wide CHNA Group we can affect policy change that
as a local or regional inter chna we cannot. “Power in numbers”
Surprise:
Willingness to globalize the CHNA experience
Challenge:
Finding the time to institute yet another series of meetings –along with other
agency responsibility. A little of a daunting task.

Support each other as a network by sharing data, outcomes, & best practices.
Amazing Resources!

   1. Collective strength of CHNAs in effecting change.
2. Breadth and depth of ideas
      - “outside-of-the-box” thinking
   3. Defining CHNAs in a way that is realistic.

Whats had real meaning?
-Recognizing the history and evolution of CHNAs
-Feeling the energy and commitment of attendees
-knowing that, together, we can be powerful agents of change
-recognizing that there are more people to engage in our pursuit of healthier
communities
-I am not alone

What Surprised me?
-How relevant and helpful the branding panel discussion was
-that more people from our CHNA did not attend

What challenged me?
-didn’t get an opportunity to network with most of the meeting attendees
-wish I knew more about the myriad agencies/organizations represented today.
-the imminent dismantling of the regional centers- very upsetting

Need a statewide CHNA Council

Challenge: Continuous need to define what CHNA does and is.
Surprise: Positive turnout practical panel.
Meaning: hearing commitment of individuals to improve health and systems

Bring a training on the A.C.E.S study to the region!!!
Opportunity to provide/bring/host regional trainings

Networking with other CHNA members and gaining a knowledge of what other
groups are doing in their communities.

I thought the panel discussion was excellent whether it is something the CHNAs can
actually do/pull off (a common branding idea) or not, they were clearly very
knowledgeable, intelligent and experienced on this issue and is gained a lot from
what they started.

It was great to think aloud, learn/hear different ideas from other people at the table.
It was meaningful to hear that other people want to connect, learn and grow like
me! I enjoyed learning about the idea for interchna south regions website. I was
surprised at the vastness of different thoughts and loved all ideas/thoughts. I am
challenged and pulled in so many directions and look forward to figuring out a game
plan of how these ideas will unfold and actually turn into action so things actually
happen and lead to change. The only constant thing in like is that there will be
change.

Residents of community represented more as opposed to agency based
representation. What surprised me was to see so much similarity of goal-oriented
initiatives from different CHNAs as the same. What challenged me? Being able to
relate my feelings.
The need to “brand” the CHNA concept to be able to define the initiative in 10 words
or less to any/all community…should recognize initiative in all parts of state. Its
time to remove CHNA and create a name not an acronym.
The energy and great minds that come together…its great!!
“Part of 21”

CHNAs are similar.
CHNAs are different.
Therein lies the Challenge-

More Similarities than Differences between CHNA’s
Need for One Name for all ie. “Synergy” instead of CHNA-
Lots to Learn from each Other-
Possibility of merging CHNA’s where appropriate-
Branding needed. Got to community for mtgs (target pops)
Change mtg times to get more consumers young and older.

-Sharing our goals (focus) for the common needs of our communities (united front)
-No real Surprises-all area CHNA have needs that are the same; just that the
quantifying #’s maybe different

Importance of Communication
-Branding
-Acorss CHNA’s
-Finding common ground
-Reaching our communities

Challenge: Going beyond comfort zone/familiar
Surprise: diversity of ideas

Meaning: How much everyone really wants to be able to work together (regionally).

Surprised: How different the CHNA’s see their work and how they accomplish that
work.

Challenged (1) to get to know other CHNA’s better (2) incorporating social media as
a way of communicating on a regular basis.
Finding new ways to connect over, re-brand, and re-envision what #Health and
Wellness is and needs to be the future for #seCHNA. Collaboration is key.

Reply retweet tweeted 11/18/11 2:30pm

The uniqueness of each CHNA’s needs.
The passion in which all members have.
I am surprised by the amount of competition amongst some leaders
I was challenged by seeing another perspective on “NEEDS” are they really needs,
who interprets the data? Why no focus on preventive measures in lieu of needs.

-need more ways for CHNAs to benefit from each others strengths and lessons
learned
-unique opportunity to learn cutting edge public health prevention info and
disseminate widely.
-many CHNA’s have similar challenges but similar solutions wont always work due
to unique local issues.

Realization that people do want to work in collaboration.
Knowing that leveraging InterCHNA power will contribute to systemic change.

Surprised by fear of changing how we do tings. Fear of stepping out-side the
parameters.

Challenged by turning vision into reality with minimal funding and less than full
community by in.

Surprised by some participants using “you” instead of “we” immediately separating
themselves from the community.

-we need to find more ways to communicate and work together amongst all CHNA’s
share ideas, plan ideas as a larger group.
-How eager everyone is on working towards solutions
-having more diverse involvement
Re-occurring themes
1. Branding
       a. Having 1 umbrella Name
               i. Marketing
              ii. Website
       b. Using 1 Name and breaking it
          down regionally
               i. Numbers = power
2. More CHNA collaborations
   across the state
3. Working together more to
   eliminate people working in silos
4. Go to the people/community
change meeting times/meet w/ community groups in their space/include youth/etc.

Ideas that now NEED Action Steps

 NEED strategic planning

 NEED dedicated staff, $$, resources

 -Goals
 -Evaluation
 -Deliverables

 to be articulated.

As a newcomer to CHNAs-I am able to now see the strengths and challenges. If it ain’t broke, let’s keep it that way! Primary prevention. We all could benefit from education, What’s at the cutting edge in public health? We are the leadership in SE Mass. We can change the way we do our work! Reframe our communities in teams of assets and strategies instead of deficits and needs. 1. common issue to address across CHNAs. Let Us be Out Best Selves! 1. the need for collaboration working toward prevention. 2. Hoe far our CHNA has come in comparison to others did we all need to continue to grow and make a difference in our communities 3. Feeling of powerlessness against the meulaliter of reactive health vs. proactive prevention healthier lifestyles. WE AS INTERCHNA NEED TO MERGE OUR EFFORTS ADDRESSING IMP ISSUES Recognition that change needs all of us to be on the “same page” and work together. This is a big undertaking but we are ready. The progression from individual health imperatives to more global/political sustainable ideas was impressive. This group needs a forum to continue this conversation in a timely and accessible manner. (ie. Something online vs live meetings)
  • 3. Networking • People to people is the best. • As much as social networking is great-there’s so much more to face to face. • There is such a wealth of talent and gifts in this room. • We need a website to be able to share our information and tools so we’re no all reinventing the wheel. Separately • Here’s where the social networking tool of the web can work to our joint advantage. Networking and Interacting with other people. Shared vision across communities. Holistic approach to wellness. Assets –mapping. Outcomes. Making lives better- improvement* -Branding –How; why it is valuable/important -We are part of a larger community w/complimentary (if not the same/similar) goals-to improve community health! -More interesting & stimulating then expected to be. -more of a means to begin connections then had been anticipated Enjoyed progressive thinking excerises Saw common themes and would like to see results and “action-able” and achievable next steps. Felt genuine “sense of purpose” from attendees. Gap between “thinking big” yet “acting small” Despite openness of group, stereotypes still exist i.e. perceptions of hospitals, social service, human service. Finding others doing the same great work. Learning from them. Widening my network. Hearing different voices that make me think differently.
  • 4. “Stepping stones” on the…”pathway of compassion” GARDENS From: Power over= Silos, hierarchy, competition, fear, scarcity To: Power with= bridges, circles, cooperation and collaboration, trust, abundance Let’s burst out of our individual CHNA bubbles and really get to know one another as people, as passionate public healthers, less formally, more funly. *Build on commonalities and shared strengths-ONE message (clear) to UNITE missions-mobilize and start the conversation-ADVOCATE for change one tweet, phone call, letter at a time. We need more opportunities to connect/converse-in person and through social media . 2 way converstation. Interchna- collaborates to reach legislative attention and change policy. How we all seem to think alike_________________
  • 5. The number of ideas ________________________ To think regionally instead of locally -We need to continue to conversation -Build capacity for strong legislative voice on issues we share -Prepare for casinos impact -secure commitment for P.H. revenue sharing/ear marks -Engage new legislators -share info/communicate messages across CHNA motivators The rich variety and talent and skills of fellow CHNA members. Awesome passionate group- Challenged by trying to keep all information sorted through. Need more time! Not crazy about “café” would rather stay w/one group for discussion -possibilities, next steps - all doing/actions -surprised at how difficult it is for us not to immediately talk about solutions/next steps -challenge- who is missing (schools, legislators) -how to engage. We share a tremendous store of common knowledge and experience . We don’t get together often enough to do this! -Great Sharing -Informative -Great Communication -Humanity at its best -Endless possibilities for our communities, citizens, and future generations We shared a huge amount of information today. I have a much better understanding on how CHNA works. I was surprised to hear different CHNA’s have their own name. The CAFÉ was a challenge with so many ideas being said at once. Real Meaning: That collectively as state-wide CHNA Group we can affect policy change that as a local or regional inter chna we cannot. “Power in numbers” Surprise: Willingness to globalize the CHNA experience Challenge: Finding the time to institute yet another series of meetings –along with other agency responsibility. A little of a daunting task. Support each other as a network by sharing data, outcomes, & best practices. Amazing Resources! 1. Collective strength of CHNAs in effecting change.
  • 6. 2. Breadth and depth of ideas - “outside-of-the-box” thinking 3. Defining CHNAs in a way that is realistic. Whats had real meaning? -Recognizing the history and evolution of CHNAs -Feeling the energy and commitment of attendees -knowing that, together, we can be powerful agents of change -recognizing that there are more people to engage in our pursuit of healthier communities -I am not alone What Surprised me? -How relevant and helpful the branding panel discussion was -that more people from our CHNA did not attend What challenged me? -didn’t get an opportunity to network with most of the meeting attendees -wish I knew more about the myriad agencies/organizations represented today. -the imminent dismantling of the regional centers- very upsetting Need a statewide CHNA Council Challenge: Continuous need to define what CHNA does and is. Surprise: Positive turnout practical panel. Meaning: hearing commitment of individuals to improve health and systems Bring a training on the A.C.E.S study to the region!!! Opportunity to provide/bring/host regional trainings Networking with other CHNA members and gaining a knowledge of what other groups are doing in their communities. I thought the panel discussion was excellent whether it is something the CHNAs can actually do/pull off (a common branding idea) or not, they were clearly very knowledgeable, intelligent and experienced on this issue and is gained a lot from what they started. It was great to think aloud, learn/hear different ideas from other people at the table. It was meaningful to hear that other people want to connect, learn and grow like me! I enjoyed learning about the idea for interchna south regions website. I was surprised at the vastness of different thoughts and loved all ideas/thoughts. I am challenged and pulled in so many directions and look forward to figuring out a game plan of how these ideas will unfold and actually turn into action so things actually happen and lead to change. The only constant thing in like is that there will be change. Residents of community represented more as opposed to agency based representation. What surprised me was to see so much similarity of goal-oriented initiatives from different CHNAs as the same. What challenged me? Being able to relate my feelings.
  • 7. The need to “brand” the CHNA concept to be able to define the initiative in 10 words or less to any/all community…should recognize initiative in all parts of state. Its time to remove CHNA and create a name not an acronym. The energy and great minds that come together…its great!! “Part of 21” CHNAs are similar. CHNAs are different. Therein lies the Challenge- More Similarities than Differences between CHNA’s Need for One Name for all ie. “Synergy” instead of CHNA- Lots to Learn from each Other- Possibility of merging CHNA’s where appropriate- Branding needed. Got to community for mtgs (target pops) Change mtg times to get more consumers young and older. -Sharing our goals (focus) for the common needs of our communities (united front) -No real Surprises-all area CHNA have needs that are the same; just that the quantifying #’s maybe different Importance of Communication -Branding -Acorss CHNA’s -Finding common ground -Reaching our communities Challenge: Going beyond comfort zone/familiar Surprise: diversity of ideas Meaning: How much everyone really wants to be able to work together (regionally). Surprised: How different the CHNA’s see their work and how they accomplish that work. Challenged (1) to get to know other CHNA’s better (2) incorporating social media as a way of communicating on a regular basis.
  • 8. Finding new ways to connect over, re-brand, and re-envision what #Health and Wellness is and needs to be the future for #seCHNA. Collaboration is key. Reply retweet tweeted 11/18/11 2:30pm The uniqueness of each CHNA’s needs. The passion in which all members have. I am surprised by the amount of competition amongst some leaders I was challenged by seeing another perspective on “NEEDS” are they really needs, who interprets the data? Why no focus on preventive measures in lieu of needs. -need more ways for CHNAs to benefit from each others strengths and lessons learned -unique opportunity to learn cutting edge public health prevention info and disseminate widely. -many CHNA’s have similar challenges but similar solutions wont always work due to unique local issues. Realization that people do want to work in collaboration. Knowing that leveraging InterCHNA power will contribute to systemic change. Surprised by fear of changing how we do tings. Fear of stepping out-side the parameters. Challenged by turning vision into reality with minimal funding and less than full community by in. Surprised by some participants using “you” instead of “we” immediately separating themselves from the community. -we need to find more ways to communicate and work together amongst all CHNA’s share ideas, plan ideas as a larger group. -How eager everyone is on working towards solutions -having more diverse involvement
  • 9. Re-occurring themes 1. Branding a. Having 1 umbrella Name i. Marketing ii. Website b. Using 1 Name and breaking it down regionally i. Numbers = power 2. More CHNA collaborations across the state 3. Working together more to eliminate people working in silos 4. Go to the people/community change meeting times/meet w/ community groups in their space/include youth/etc. Ideas that now NEED Action Steps NEED strategic planning NEED dedicated staff, $$, resources -Goals -Evaluation -Deliverables to be articulated.
