Online Electronic Health Record
1. Problem Statement
• In rural clinics, the patients do not have access to
specialist Doctors.
• The patients are treated by nurses/ GPs.
• If the doctor or nurse are unable to identify the
cause of the symptoms, the patient is referred to
the specialist.
• This system has resulted in unnecessary
consultation with the specialist in a nearby
hospital. Which results in wastage of resources.
2. Opportunity Recognition
• If the patient’s medical record could be made
electronically available to the specialist. The
specialist could then suggest a referral (if it is a
serious issue) or prescribe treatment/medication
through the doctor or nurse (if the symptoms are
benign).
• This will reduce unnecessary referrals and speeds
up diagnosis and treatment to rural patients.
• The patient’s health record will be stored online
to assist doctors and nurses the next time the
patient returns to the clinic.
