WEB 1.0-3.0
Stanford Bush, Keelin Davison, Arlandria Doyle
Web 1.0
Defining WEB1.0
○ Web 1.0 is generally believed to refer to the web when it was a set of static websites that
were not yet providing interactive content.
Introducing Web 1.0
○ Web 1.0 refers to the first stages in the World Wide Web
○ Only made up of web pages connected by hyperlinks
○ Web 1.0 applications were also generally proprietary
More Facts on web1.0
○ Web 1.0 is primarily one-way publishing medium
○ Supports online transactions an offers only minimal uses interaction
○ Read only web
○ Uses tables to position and align elements on the page
Common Uses for WEB1.0
○ Internet industries ( publishing documents and supply- orientated information)
○ Domain name speculation
○ Personal websites
○ Historic documents
Examples of Web 1.0
○ AOL
○ Netscape
○ Memepool
○ ALIWEB
○ CNN
Two Web Tools overly used
○ File Sharing
○ Personal Websites
○ AOL
Video of Web 1.0
Web 2.0
What is Web 2.0?
a second generation in the development of the
World Wide Web, conceived as a combination of
concepts, trends, and technologies that focus on
user collaboration, sharing of user generated content, and social networking.
History of Web 2.0
Web 2.0 came about in April 1, 1999. It was first used by Darci DiNucci. On November 20,
2001, the world officially switched for Web 1.0 to Web 2.0.
Characteristics of Web 2.0
• Web-based applications can be accessed from anywhere
• Simple applications solve specific problems
• Value lies in content, not the software used to display content
• Data can be readily shared
• Distribution is bottom-up, not top-down
• Employees and customers can access and use tools on their own
• Social tools encourage people to create, collaborate, edit,
categorize, exchange, and promote information
• Network effects are encouraged; the more people who contribute,
the better the content gets
Common Uses
• Social Networking (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn)
• Wikis (Wikipedia)
• Social Curation (Instagram, Pinterest, Reddit)
• Technologies (Adobe Flash, Microsoft Silverlight, JavaScript)
Internet Usage Over Time
Who Uses the Internet
Manufacturing & Enterprise 2.0
• Manufacturing 2.0
Manufacturing 2.0 takes typical Web 2.0 apps and services and incorporates
them into every stage of development and production. The use of these
technologies and tools facilitates greater collaboration and sharing and
referencing of information in a business, ideally leading to better thought out
design and more efficient production.
• Enterprise 2.0
Most enterprise 2.0 followers use a combination of blogs, social networking and
social collaborative tools as well as free, paid and homegrown technologies. The
term Enterprise 2.0 was coined by Harvard Business School Associate Professor
Andrew McAfee in an MIT Sloan Management Review he named "Enterprise 2.0:
The Dawn of Emergent Collaboration."
What 2 Tools are Important
In my opinion the two tools that are the most important in Web 2.0 are social
media and wikis. Social media is important became everyone has some kind
of social media platform. It’s a quick and easy way for people to
communicate all over the world. Wikis are important because it’s a quick
way to contain information without having to go to the library and search for
a book.
Videos
Web 3.0 (Semantic Web)
History, Facts, and Definition
○ a third generation of Internet that
collectively executes things such as those
using semantic web, microformats, natural
language search, data-mining, machine
learning, recommendation agents, and
artificial intelligence technologies.
○ Web 3.0 has not officially been released,
but large advancements of web 2.0 is said
to be the start or is forming the idea of the
semantic web.
Common use of the era
○ Many people use web 3.0 every day of their life, and do not realize it at
first glance. When you are shopping on sites such as: Amazon,
Salesforce, Cisco, etc. you are engaging in Web 3.0 and it is engaging
with you as well.
Examples of the Technology
Technology
○ Amazon
○ Zappos
○ Cisco
Description
○ Amazon is a business that sells almost
anything that is worth buying. The shopping
experience fairly easy and you notice right
away that the site is adjusting to your needs.
○ Zappos focuses on shoes but has many other
offerings as well. It’s function is not entirely
different from any other online shopping
app.
○ Cisco became the leader in networking and
has transformed how people connect and
collaborate.
Which two web tools had the most
influence?
○ Web 1.0 and 2.0 are the most relevant two when we discuss impact and importance. Web
3.0 has not made a huge enough impact on the world because it is still being created.
○ Web 1.0 made such a huge impact on the technology world because it introduced the
process of spreading information without having to publish a book or post a news article.
○ Web 2.0 is still readily in it’s prime and is a huge part of everyone’s day to day life.
○ These two web tools are important because without them, Web 3.0 would not exist.
Embedded Video
CONCLUSION
○ The semantic web will evolve on levels we cannot imagine, in its present state. Its
continuously advancing and has not even been officially released. It will revolutionize how
humans live and think as a whole, good and bad. It will impact our thought process the
most because we are required to do a lot less thinking due to the advancement of the
internet.
