The National Research and Education Network of Armenia (ASNET-AM) provides networking solutions and services to academic and research organizations in Armenia. It was created in 1994 and has over 20 years of experience in networking and IT. ASNET-AM operates fiber optic networks and provides services such as cloud storage, email, web hosting, and access to computational facilities. It faces challenges such as unreliable bandwidth and equipment, and aims to address these through server virtualization, alternative network paths, and backup power generators. ASNET-AM collaborates on international projects and provides key infrastructure to support research and education in Armenia.

18. Services: Eduroam
• EduRoam is a federated authentication trust
framework for wireless networks, which allows roving
researchers to login with their standard user name
and password
21. Services: Cloud VMs
The service providing VMs to the user communities is
based on the OpenStack middleware, which controls
large pools of compute, storage, and networking
resources throughout OpenStack API.
22. Services: Cloud Storage
There are a lot of files and you need to store them on a
secure server to prevent data loose!!!
The cloud storage is the best solution...........
23. Services: eLearning
Scalable – Elearning enables us to quickly create and
communicate new policies, training, ideas, and concepts.
Time and Money Savings
Immediate Results and Feedback
Flexible – Using elearning, you can give employees and
students the freedom to learn at their own convenience
24. Services: Computing
Satellite Image Processing
① An Interoperable Cloud-based Scientific Gateway for NDVI
Time Series Analysis, Elsevier Computer Standards &
Interfaces, 2015, 31(40), pp. 79–84, doi:
10.1016/j.csi.2015.02.001.

25. Services: Computing
Weather Forecasting
The ultimate goal is to develop an early
warning system for the south and
southeast regions of Armenia (11 in total)
by defining specific thresholds for issuing
alerts for adverse and severe weather
phenomena (high temperature, wind and
precipitation weather elements).

• International Collaboration & Projects
• Computational Facilities
• Services
• Challenges & Opportunities
27. Challenges and
Opportunities
Problems
• Unreliable and low bandwidth fiber-optic lines in
Yerevan and outside
• Unreliable and non powerful servers and network
devices
• Difficulties on the replacement of equipment in
connection with the increase in traffic
• External security (hacking attacks, the abduction and
destruction of data)
• Internal security (viruses, certificates)
• Failure Recovery
• AC power failures
28. Solutions:
• Minimization of traffic between nodes through optimal
allocation of network servers and creation of
alternative paths
• Virtualization of servers and communication devices
• Creation of the Administrators group, similar to CSIRT
• Fast recovery of images from storages on virtual
machines
• Applying of a powerful AC power generator, energy-
saving equipment
