A celebration of the best fine art exhibitions produced around the world
Premier edition 2014
Executive Summary
We are pleased to announce the Global Fine Art Awards (GFAA) premier edition launching this
fall. In October, the finalists will be announced, and the program culminates in the award ceremony in
Miami Beach on Monday, December 1, 2014.
The GFAA program honors those who create exhibitions that exemplify innovation in design, historical
context, educational value, and public appeal. This program champions an interest and passion for fine
art and its educational value to society.
By establishing an annual award cycle and a live ceremony, the program intends to engage an active
and growing audience for fine art.
While the program endeavors to inspire people to be more passionate about art, it also presents
important opportunities for partners to support this innovative initiative and grow their brand and
business through sponsorship.
Program Overview:
This award program recognizes and rewards the best fine art exhibitions and installations of the past
year (Aug 1, 2013 – Jul 31, 2014).
The format is both digital and live:
Digital: The website will showcase the nominees with photo and video representation of the works and
provide public engagement and interaction via social media and online voting for the “Youniversal”
award.
Live: On Monday, December 1, 2014, the winners will be announced during a live ceremony and event
in Miami. By connecting with the heritage and timing of Art Basel Miami Beach, leveraging the vast
resources of the market and its increasingly global image, Miami is the ideal location for the awards
ceremony.
Award Categories
GFAA 9/20/14 P a g e | 2
For the first edition of the program, there are five categories: Post-War and Contemporary (WWII to
present); Impressionist and Modern (1838 – WWII); Renaissance, Baroque, Old Masters and Dynasties
(1200-1838); Ancient Art; Public or Outdoor Installations.
Nomination and Judging Process
The selection process of the nominees consisted of researching over 200 museums and their 1,000+
exhibitions that opened during a twelve month period (Aug 1, 2013 – Jul 31, 2014), in addition to
continuous tracking of over 50 major sources of art editorial and review. The 66 nominees in 5
categories include exhibitions from 18 countries, 36 cities and 5 continents. Twenty-six of the top 100
art museums visited in the world are represented in our list of nominees, including 11 of the top 20
(April 2014 survey, The Art Newspaper).
Judges with extensive knowledge and understanding of the art world are an essential aspect of the
program. Art professionals with a range of different backgrounds establishes diversity in the voting
process. Our Jury is comprised of these highly-esteemed art professionals:
• Dean Phelus, Senior Director International Programs and Events, American Alliance of Museums
• Peter Trippi, Editor-in-Chief, Fine Art Connoisseur
• Cathy Leff, Art Consultant and former Director, Wolfsonian–Florida International University
The GFAA Jury reviewed the nominees, added additional candidates based on their experiences, and
selected their respective finalists in the five categories. From the composite top finalists, one award
winner in each category will be selected by the judges’ voting.
Additionally, the public is actively engaged in the process, with a sixth award, determined by voting on
the GFAA website.
Prizes
The six winners, to be revealed at a ceremony event in Miami on December 1, 2014 will receive a limited
edition trophy-award, designed by the world-renowned artist, Hedva Ser. A UNESCO Artist for Peace
since 2011, Hedva Ser’s monumental bronze sculptures have become symbols of peace, tolerance, and
intercultural outreach around the world. Ms. Ser is the recipient of the prestigious Legion d’Honneur
and the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres awarded by the French government.
Education and Charity
An integral component of the GFAA program is education. Through our marketing initiatives and the
content on our website, we will expand the collective view of fine art in a contemporary context, and
augment the voice of each of the nominated exhibitions and their respective organizers. By combining
GFAA 9/20/14 P a g e | 3
the reach of the current supporters of the nominated institutions, together with strong social media
platforms, the total audience exceeds 25 million supporters of fine art.
As part of our educational mission, the GFAA program is partnering with a global children’s art
charity, the International Child Art Foundation (ICAF), a 501(c)3 nonprofit that serves children in
over 80 countries.
Dedicated to universal prosperity and peace, the ICAF is focused on a “Creativity Revolution” to
maximize creative potential and inventiveness of children from around the globe. Both the ICAF
and the GFAA believe that the arts nurture creativity and foster empathy for collaborative
innovation.
The GFAA is partnering with the ICAF to further promote the ideals of art, creativity and peace. A
portion of net proceeds will directly benefit the ICAF programs.
Mission and Vision
The Global Fine Art Awards (GFAA) has as its primary purpose to elevate the importance and relevancy
of fine art in the world today: economically, socially, and culturally. It acknowledges the
accomplishments of the respective nominees, and celebrates the award winners. The program also
benefits the public image and branding of its organizers and supporters.
The GFAA program will attract a heightened interest of global art collectors and the sophisticated
market affiliated with the world of fine art; and engage existing supporters of cultural institutions. The
awards ceremony will be an exclusive and prestigious affair, with national and international media
exposure.
Additionally, the program endeavors to connect fine art with a much larger and broader audience. This
will be achieved via photo and video representation of the exhibitions on the website, each piece
accompanied by curated music, augmented by a comprehensive social media campaign and online
voting for the final award - “YOUniversal.”
The importance of fine arts is undeniable. Presenting no barriers of language, time or place, the
practice and study of art are ideal platforms to improving communications, relationships and general
understanding of mankind.
Many cultural sectors have increased their audiences over the past decade. The popularity of fashion,
cooking, design and architecture, dancing and singing have all grown over the past decade through an
increasing number of reality shows and awards. At the same time, fine art has lost visibility, and there
is no significant global art award program in the world today.
Drawing on research of these cultural trends, as well as our experiences with The Webby Awards and
the “Power 100” feature of Art+Auction magazine, the GFAA program intends to create the
opportunity for fine arts to expand in the popular culture space.

materials, in addition to benefiting from the prestige associated with the GFAA program.
