This document outlines a lesson plan for a preschool class with a farm/farm animal theme. The plan includes circle time activities focusing on recognizing farm animals, singing songs, and discussing animals on a felt barn scene. Art time involves coloring and decorating pictures of horses while practicing requesting materials. Snack time incorporates practicing requesting food items and sharing with peers. Theme: Farm/FarmAnimals
Focus Words:Cow, Horse, Pig, Sheep, Chicken, farm, barn, tractor
Concept: -Recognize animals in pictures -Using words

Soap:
-Teacher holds up hand sanitizer, “What do we need?” -waits for children to say “soap”- praising
those who do, if no one says it say, “we need soap!”
-Have each child ask for soap, using the word (or sound depending on the child’s skill level) and wait
for eye contact.
-Example: “what do you need Steve?”..........”soap” says steve, teacher then waits for his eye contact and
says, “you want soap!” -each child.
-Have children’s attention: “on top” put soap on top of teachers own hand.
-Go around having each child ask for some on top, example; “you need some on _____” wait for top and
eye contact. If the child does not say top teacher finishes sentence, “on top.”
-Teacher says and children imitate, “rub it up high! Rub it down low! Rub it to the side! Rub it to the
other side! And shake! Shake! Shake shake! (shaking hands)
2. BoomBoom:
-Teacher holds up hands and waits for all the children to join in.
“Boom Boom, Boom, Boom,” bringing hands down to thighs each time having the children imitate. “Oh
here we are together together together oh here we are together...all..sitting… in...our….._________( have
children finish sentence) “chairs!’
-Ask each child what color their chair is
Names:
-”My name is Ashleigh!” “say Hi Ashleigh! Aides can help model.
-Teach goes around to each child, “what is your name?” wait for child to say name if they do not say
“your name is____”
-Everyone say hi -_________”!-have each child say hello to specific child at each turn.
-Accomodations made for those with no communication, a voice recorder is used for 2 of the children
Song board:
-Teacher says “Listen for your name! Where is…..________” have each child acknowledge that it is their
turn and that is their name. If you need to keep asking the whole class “where is ______”
-Have child choose one picture.
-Wheels on the bus song- have the children choose where the are on the bus and say hi to them.
-example: “I am right here on the bus where are you on the bus steve? Say hi steve, (waving to
the picture.
-Birthday song: when a child is leaving the program they are usually having a birthday that day or
very soon. Teacher has crown for child who is turning.
-teacher asks child how old they are.-have them show it on their hands, have all the children
try it on their hands. Sing happy birthday
-Sticks-who needs some sticks? Have them request and imitate the sing with teacher
-There will be multiple songs for the children to choose from on the board depending on the amount
of time we have.
-stretch-have children imitate- “stretch up high! Stretch down low! And twist twist twist twist!”
3. Barn Yarn FarmAnimals Circle time
-after the children stretch after singing have them sit back down in their chairs.
-*before class have the flannel farm yard scene taped up on the board*
-Teacher-”Today we are going to talk about a farm and the animals that live on a farm!”
-Have each children take turns choosing one farm piece from the bag-using the where is _______
having them comment what I ask them where they are ultimately wanting to say right here or “Im ___”
-Prompt the child to tell you what they picked. “What is that” “what sound does it make?”
-example: “cow! Moo! Cow is big!”
-Then prompt the child to go up and place it on the felt farm scene. Giving prises
-continue around until everyone has had at least one turn.
*have children go to the table for art*

Horse picture:
-teacher holdsup the toy horse, “What is this” “What does it say?”
-teacher: “look the horse has a mane of hair on it’s head!”(pointingtothe mane) making sure all the children

- teacher takes out the pictureof a horse, “I'm going to color my horse brown!”colors brown.
-teacher asks whoneeds a picture of the horse as well,if theydon't ask and aide willhelp themask.
-”I colored my horse witha browncrayon what doyou need?” holdingup a crayon-haveeach child request a
crayon witheye contactbefore giving them one.
-‘We need to color our horses then we are going to glue the hair on our horses mane!”
-When childrenare done ask them to give you their crayoncan also say “
1 more minuteof coloring!’
-”watchme! Now i am going to glue hair on my horse's mane! “ models gluing the glue one the maneand putting
the hair on, “look at this cool hair he has!”
-teacher asks- “whoneedsglue?” have each child request it with eye contactand theword “glue”
-Request the glue back whenthe child seems to have enoughon their paper.
-”Now whoneeds hair!”“if they say me or i do ask them“What do you need?”looking for the word hair and eye
contact
4. *have children wash hands* puzzles when finished with art, while
waiting for others to wash hands*
*Snack and gross motor are sometimes switched depending what the teacher does*
Snack:
Show the children the cups ands ask “what are these?” have each child say cup.
-show the children each of the snacks you have including the juice
-ask one child to pass a napkin to their friend, example “steve can you give his to tate” etc,
-ASk them what they would like, only giving them what they ask for if they ask. Look for eye contact as
well as the word or picture system.
-2 of the children use the PECS system to request a snack because of no language, in those cases
look for eye contact as well as the correct picture pointed or given to.
Gym time-child directed gross motor-peer interactions
-if children are engaged in one activity for a short amount of time direct them to something else.
-If children are jumping from one activity to the next very fast help them finish an activity by saying
“oh, 2 more swings and then you can be done!”
*If time have the children play with the wheat inside the sensory table together until parents show up
to pick themup”
