A survey of 1,000 Americans found that nearly 1 in 5 people rarely or never lock their doors when home, and homes without security systems are up to 300% more likely to be broken into. On average, a burglary occurs every 13 seconds in the US, and only 13% of burglaries are solved by police due to lack of evidence. Without a security system, the average amount stolen from a burglarized home is $5,000, whereas with a professional security system the average loss is reduced to $3,000, a 40% reduction.
