3. Customs and Traditions
There are many customs and traditions of Ancient
Egyptian people here are a few examples and :
• A pharaoh or king in Egypt wore a bull’s tail to show how strong he
was.
• Men and woman at the court of the king in Egypt wore elegant
make-up, especially around the eyes
• To keep cool at parties in Ancient Egypt guest’s wore cones of
perfumed animal fat on their heads. As the fat melted cooling
perfume trickled over their skin
• In Ancient Egypt, there were rules about battles. Rival kings agreed
this time and place, and battles were never fought at night.
• At the battle of Kadesh, Ramesses probably had about 20,000
soldiers – a very big army for the time.
4. Pyramids
The pyramids are the stone tomb of Egypt’s kings. The Egyptians
believed that if the pharaoh’s body could be mummified after death
the pharaoh would live forever. The tombs were designed to protect
the buried pharaoh’s body and his belongings.
Most of the pyramids can be found on the western side of the Nile
River, just into the dry desert
The dry desert heat worked to keep the pharaoh’s body and his
belongings from decomposing and rotting away.
The great pyramid is largest and most famous of the pyramids. It was
built for the pharaoh Khuf. It is over 140 metres high and took 20
years to build.
5. Mummies
A mummy is the body of a person that has been preserved after death.
Mummies were any Egyptian who could afford to pay the amount of
money for preserving their bodies for the afterlife.
The stages of mummification
1. The body was washed and purified.
2. Organs were removed. Only the heart remained.
3. The body was filled with stuffing
4. The body was dried by covering it with a substance called Natron
which absorbed all the moisture from the body.
5. After 40-50 days the stuffing was removed and replaced with
sawdust.
6. The body was wrapped in linen and covered in a sheet called a
shroud.
7. The body was placed in a stone coffin called a sarcophagus.

• The 365 calender year and 24 hours a day were created by
Egyptians.
• Children wore no clothes until they were teenagers.
• Men and Woman wore make-up it was said to be protectant from the
sun.
• Egyptians believed the world was flat and round
