founded by Dr. Antonio (Toni), a former language teacher
and education researcher and an Adventurer also and has
a travel company also known as “Myths and Mountains”.
Toni harnessed her resources and founded Rural
Education and Development (READ) Global in 1991 in
Nepal.
READ has global headquarters in San Francisco, local
country offices in Bhutan, India and Nepal.
6.
READ expanded to India in 2007 to empower women and
marginalized groups, and create educational and economic
opportunities in rural areas.
READ India Centers are giving women the chance to learn
to read, teaching people about their rights, and giving
rural villagers skills to earn a living.
All of the READ Centers are owned and operated by the
local community. Each Center has a library, computer
room, women's section, children's room, and training hall.

7. VISION
“READ believes empowering rural communities is critical to
alleviating global poverty. We envision a world where individuals,
families and entire communities have access to the knowledge,
resources and opportunities necessary to build a more prosperous
future through Community Library and Resource Centers (READ
Centers).”
MISSION
We partner with rural communities in India to create a sustainable
model for social and economic transformation through community
library and resource centers.
9. The community today needs external agency intervention in the
alleviation of many social problems like poverty, health,
unemployment, community education, homelessness and eco-
development programs.
In India, the concept of CSR is governed by clause 135 of the
Companies Act, 2013, which was passed by both Houses of the
Parliament, and had received the assent of the President of
India on 29 August 2013.
The Act encourages companies to spend at least 2% of their
average net profit on CSR activities. Also require companies to
set-up a CSR committee consisting of their board members,
including at least one independent director.

• Out of 133 women Majority of the women expressed that they have
increased chances of being employed now.
• Many women also expressed that their level of skills and education has
increased post trainings, and they now look forward to make their lives
independent of financial obstacles.
• Many beneficiaries were also earning their livelihood through the
imparted skills and performing their roles and responsibilities with ease.
The ‘Skills to Succeed’ programme has helped many women who were
confined to their houses to come out and realize their full potential. This

Challenges
29.
For University:
If possible shifts the BPT to 4th semester.
Regarding “Organizational Behavior” subject/paper.
For Juniors:
Find the field you are the most interested in and thus
choose your career accordingly.
Did your field work in your interested areas.
Suggestions
30.
From this Social Workership, as a social worker I
used to apply the theoretical knowledge into the
field. It is quite different to implement the
knowledge because the situation is different as of
reality. I used to get the knowledge of organizational
setting and how the organization used to work and
implement their projects. The Social Workership
gives me exposure of data collection & analysis for
Impact Assessment Survey. That was very good
experience for me.
