What is @Mention in Twitter?

• “@Mention” on twitter is used to direct a message/tweet to a particular
  user/handle on twitter. It is very important know what it is while using
  Twitter.
• For example, if you want to send a message to a person by a user name
  Jon on Twitter, you click on compose new Tweet, and type “@Jon”
  anywhere in the message, The message would appear on Jon’s Twitter
  page

By using @Mention, you are not making the message a private
communication between you and the other person, others who are following
you can also can see the tweet.

By using @Mention you are just referring to someone in your tweet.

For example, if you want to direct a message to a person with user name
Jon, you would put an @Mention before the Twitter name Jon and then type
out your message.
Features of @Mention

• Not a private message

• Good way to mention someone in the tweet

• @ Mentions are used to start discussions

• @ Mentions are considered as @replies while replying to your tweet

• @Mention sometime’s are misused by “spammers” who repeatedly send
   people @Mentions
How To Use @Mentions
• To start a discussion
The main Purpose of @Mention is to start a discussion. When you use @Mention and
type out a message. The other person can see the tweet in @Mention area and start
the discussion from there on.

• To attract someone’s attention
A good way to attract the attention of a high-profile Tweeter is to direct an @mention
to them asking a well thought out question. Everyone pays very close attention to the
@mention area of their Twitter page.

• Spread goodwill
Using @mentions is also a great way to spread the love to other tweeters. You can
recommend other people to follow. Or you can simply refer to people using their
@name in your tweets.
A Few Technicalities
Be aware of which followers are seeing which Tweets.
  For example, this Tweet is only visible to the followers of @Autumnworldwide who also follow
  @Jon




  But this Tweet is visible to all of @Autumnworldwide’s followers because the @symbol comes in
  the middle of the Tweet




There are many ways to get the right Tweets out to the right people. The key is to understand that when to
@reply to a Tweet, it's not guaranteed that all the followers will see it, so plan for the effect that is expected.
