     materials)
   • Potential for renewable energy (FiT)
   • Fleet/high mileage
   • Innovation
   • Go by feel…do you think there is room for
improvement? Can you see a project there for you
     or others?
IYRE Case Studies

•How can you work with IYRE?

•What sort of projects can IYRE support?

•Examples of IYRE projects
How can you interact with IYRE?
How can you and your client
benefit from IYRE?
Regional Case Studies

awarded. This covered 100% of the cost of installing a new lighting
system with in-built daylight and occupancy sensors..

• Electricity consumption reduced by 37672 kWh, saving 19 tonnes
    of CO2 and £3,767.20.

• Added benefits of replacing the lighting system would include:
better light levels and improved staff comfort (reduced shading).
Hatton Court Hotel

Who?

• Hatton Court is a 45 bedroom country house hotel in Gloucestershire. The
hotel The oldest part of the building dates to the 1700s with a series of
extensions, the most significant being the wings built in the 1950's and
     1980's.

Issue?

• Hotel is heated by four ageing oil fired boilers (located in two boiler rooms)
that operate at no more than 70% efficiencies.

Outcome?

• Hatton Court Hotel received an IYRE Capital Grant of £30,500 to contribute
towards the cost of a boiler replacement

• Also received a Carbon Trust loan has been awarded to the sum of £28,748

• It is expected that the boiler replacement will result in of 198,350, a
reduction in annual fuel costs from £45,375 to £12,476 (£32,899 saving) and a
     CO2 saving of 98 tonnes .
Glendale Products
Who?

• Manufacturing company based in Kingswood, Bristol making
    acoustic office partition screens.

Issue?

• Relatively high energy costs partly though poor insulation in walls
    and roof.

    areas of single glazed northlights.

Outcome?

• Re-roof using new tiles, new GRP valleys, Insulate using Triso 10
(limited space retrofit) and replace single glazed northlights with
high performance polycarbonate - U factor 3 (there are weight
restriction issues hence not able to fit double glazing).

• Capital voucher provided for £10,000

• Carbon saving of 9.74 tonnes/year
Wickwar Brewery
Who?

• Gloucestershire's leading real ale brewery. Brewing production
     increasing 764,000 litres (2009); 830,000 (2010); and 996,000 (2011)

Issue?

• Production inefficiencies - milling processes lost 10% of grain
     throughput

• Unreliable boiler - assumed that scaling increased energy
     consumption by 30%

Outcome?

• Capital Grant valued at £10,345 received to purchase a new mill and
     water softening equipment

• Business is more resilient to grain price exposure

• 10.7 tonnes and 35 tonnes of carbon saved per year due to
replacement mill and water treatment equipment respectively.

• £4000 saved from wasted raw materials and £5300 saved from
     energy bill.
TJL Industies
Who?

• UPVC window recycler

Issue?

• Major limitation on through-put is the space in the store the materials for processing.

Outcome?

• Capital Grant valued at £7350 to contribute towards the cost of a ‘pre-sizer’ which will allow large
items to be processed and a granulator to reduce the UPVC strips to granules.

• Company is able to increase the quantity of material stored, reduce the number of trips to the
reprocessor and gain a better price for the material.

• The equipment has allowed the company to increase UPVC process from 7 tonnes to 50 tonnes of
    UPVC.

• Company has “spare capacity” and has allowing them to take in other companies waste

• To cope with such a large increase in material handling and work, the company will be looking to
add 5 staff to the roster, to man the machine, disassemble, manage the yard and transport material
    to the reprocessor.

• The carbon benefit of the recycling over the year will be over 1300 tonnes per annum CO2e,
(according to Sourcemap) in avoided virgin materials and gaseous release from landfill.

• At current recyclate market prices, this would generate a turnover of £493,000.

    burner and industrial mounted saw

• Carbon saved 96 tonnes.
Hints and Tips
• Consider which of your clients/projects has the
    potential to receive IYRE support

• Check client/project eligibility with an IYRE advisor to
    avoid disappointment

• Remember that projects must be presented to the
funding panel. The decisions to award funding lies
    with the panel.

• Remember that retrospective projects cannot be
funded. Do not begin projects until your client has
fully secured funding i.e. In receipt of a countersigned
    offer letter.

• Keep in touch with your IYRE advisor if in doubt.
