Editorial
February brought much excitement with the takeover of the premier holiday brand “Vacations Exotica”
along with its people and business. This takeover is BL's endeavor to strengthen its foothold in the Tours
domain. As you are aware we are one of the largest travel & tour agents in India providing domestic &
international travel, ticketing, and travel & tourism related services to our clients. With this takeover the
Company will be able to expand its value proposition and offer end-to-end services in the Tours and MICE
segment as Vacations Exotica brings with it a multi-talented work force and a wide range of holiday
packages.
The 148th Foundation Day was celebrated across the Company on 2nd February. We will bring you
glimpses of the celebrations in the next issue of BLOOM.
4th March is observed as National Safety Day across the country. With the aim of spreading awareness
on safety, we will observe the day at Balmer Lawrie and celebrate a National Safety Week from 4th-9th
March in all units/establishments across location. So, gear up for various programs & contests scheduled
during the week and win exciting prizes!

2. Third Quarter Results
On 7th February, 2014 the results for the quarter ending 31st December 2013, were adopted by the
Board. The net income was Rs 647 crores and the Profit Before Tax (PBT) stood at Rs 33 crores. The net
income for nine months ending 31st December 2013 was Rs 2009 crores and the PBT was Rs 126 crores.

"Vacations Exotica" is now an integral Business Unit of Balmer Lawrie and will be known as SBU: Tours Vacations Exotica. Vacations Exotica began operations in October 2007 and currently has a team with
more than 118 people, 9 offices in India, 4 associate offices Including 1 in USA and is represented by 113
Preferred Partners. Within a span of 7 years of its inception, Vacations Exotica is today ranked among the
top 5 holiday companies in India nationally. Mr. Ravishankar is the COO of this Business Unit. BLOOM
welcomes Mr. Ravishankar and all colleagues from SBU:Tours to the Balmer Lawrie family.

3. BL Updates
SBU: T&T participated in Petrotech 2014, the 11th International Oil & Gas Conference and Exhibition
organised under the aegis of MoPNG, GOI. T&T put up a travel desk at the Exhibition which was held from
12th to 15th January, 2014 at the India Exposition Mart, Greater Noida, Delhi (NCR).
As part of its continuous branding efforts for Balmerol, G&L, Kolkata branded a Bus Shelter at Ruby
Hospital crossing in January 2014.
In January, Logistics Services, Kolkata
successfully handled a consignment of M/s
Numaligarh Refinery Ltd. at Kolkata port.
The
project
involved hiring
of
vessel, handling of project cargo and
transportation of Over Dimensional Cargo
(ODC) from Kolkata to Assam. The total
parcel volume was 3030 freight ton which
included several heavy lift packages.

4. Logistics Services, Kolkata executed a project consignment of IOCL & EIL at Paradeep port, Orissa in
January 2014.
LI, Kolkata was one of the sponsors of the
Seahorse Guild an annual cultural event
organised for a charitable cause by the
Seahorse Group. This year the program was
held on 17th January at Kolkata. Seahorse, a
leading player offering quality shipping
services and international transportation, is
an esteemed customer of SBU:LI.

Business Standard organized a Quiz Contest for
Corporates, B - Schools and Engineering Colleges on
1st February at Kolkata. A total number of 60 teams
participated in the event. The Quiz Master was Mr.
Gaurav Sri Krishna, a well-known name in the
quizzing circle. Balmer Lawrie was represented by

5. Republic Day was celebrated with much fervor at
G&L, Silvassa. The flag was hoisted by the workmen
amidst employees and their family members.
At Manali, Chennai employees and their families
gathered to celebrate Republic Day. COO [PC]
hoisted the flag and sweets were distributed to
all.
HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) Corner
Involvement of employees is important for achieving sustainability goals. In keeping with this, 131
employees were engaged in HSE, SD & CSR workshops in 8 different batches in Manali, Chennai.

6. Workshop for Executives at Manali Complex
HAZMAT TRAINING
A specialized training on Identification, Handling, Storage and Emergency Management of Dangerous
Goods & Hazardous Material was conducted at CFS, Mumbai by Head [HSE &SD]. Concerned Executives,
Security personnel, Forklift & Reach stacker operators attended the training. This training was first of its
kind at BL and a similar training is being planned for CFS Chennai & Kolkata.
CSR Update
Balmer Lawrie was a silver sponsor of the Global
Entrepreneurship Summit (GES), the
annual
international corporate summit conducted by the
Entrepreneurship Cell of IIT Kharagpur. GES 2014
was organized at IIT Kharagpur from 10th to 12th
January, 2014. It is the largest student-level
entrepreneurial summit in India.
Shri Gopendra Nath Chowdhury, CSR committee
member handed over the scholarship cheques for
the year 2013-14, to the Students of IIT
Kharagpur pursuing their engineering degree, at a
program held in their college premises.

7. In January 2014 Water backpacks were distributed in
the village Piplaj near Ahmedabad, Gujarat by BL along
with its partner, an NGO - Centre for Education
Developmental Research and Action (CEDRA).
Balmer Lawrie supported HOPE Cup, the charity
golf tournament organized by Tollygunge Club
in aid of Indian Institute of Cerebral Palsy
(IICP), as a Tee Sponsor.

Glimpses from the City of Joy
Raj Bhavan is the official residence of the Governor of West Bengal and is located in Kolkata. Built in 1803, it was
known as the Government House in the pre-independence days. Later after the transfer of power from the East India
Company to the British Crown in 1858, it became the official residence of the Viceroy of India. With the shifting of
capital to Delhi in 1911 it became the official residence of Lieutenant Governor of Bengal. Since independence in 1947
it serves as the official residence of the Governor of West Bengal and came to be known as the Raj Bhavan.
