I have played a leading role in ontology initiatives in the biology, biomedicine and defense and security domains. These include the Basic Formal Ontology (BFO), which serves to provide the upper level architecture for some 13 ontology projects throughout the world; the OBO (Open Biomedical Ontologies) Foundry, a suite of resources designed to support information-driven research in biology and biomedicine; ontology work for the NIAID ImmPort project, the Protein Ontology and the Infectious Disease Ontology.
