A new Viabuild chapter… A new Viabuild corporate brochure.
It is not without pride that I am able to announce to you that Viabuild is beginning a new chapter
in its history: a chapter with more consideration than previously for safety, quality and customer
satisfaction.
Via these levers, Viabuild is aiming to grow into the best infrastructure company in Belgium and
elsewhere. While the public sector remains our core market, Viabuild is working increasingly often
for the private sector. We are perfectly aware that different emphases are required in this market.
This calls for an adjustment from us, but the complementarity of the various markets and sectors
results in us being a better company.
With a new chapter comes also a new corporate brochure, a brochure on which a good deal of hard
work has been done by a number of our people. I would like to congratulate them here for the
excellent result.

At Viabuild we seek to nurture our employees’ con-
viction that quality of work, safety performance and
customer satisfaction depend on satisfied and com-
mitted employees. Viabuild is aware that the com-
mitment and satisfaction of its employees depend on
a large number of factors such as recognition and re-
spect, as well as substantively challenging positions,
good working conditions, training possibilities and a
leadership style that encourages initiative and takes
employee expectations into account.
Attracting and keeping competent employees
Viabuild offers working conditions that are above av-
erage, which places us in a position to attract and
keep competent employees. A great deal of effort is
devoted to positioning Viabuild as an attractive em-
ployer on the labour market. The use of social media
is automatic in this respect, whilst continuous invest-
ments in our visibility and our website contribute to
creating a strong corporate identity that appeals to
potential employees.
Employee training and development
Every year, we dedicate 3.2 % of working time on
average to training courses; these may be technical
training courses or training aimed at improving lead-
ership qualities, for example, or other skills.
Evaluation and development discussions are held an-
nually for all employees. Managers are coached in
leadership skills.
A professional HR policy with a strong focus on
communication
We fully invest in communication; our company
magazine “ViVaBuild” is a good example of this.
Viabuild is also attempting to improve formal and
informal communication in other ways too:
• through regular consultation with the social
partners;
• by organising the annual Viabuild Winter Event,
at which all employees can come together for an
entire day and receive training and information
about the company;
• by organising information meetings twice a
month, providing business updates and an oppor-
tunity for informal contact between colleagues
and departments;
• by implementing a policy of management pres-
ence on work sites;
• by ensuring management staff participate in
safety audits;
• by organising a company activity day twice a
year.
Our ESF (European Social Fund) project, “People-
Friendly Enterprise”, puts us in a position to further
professionalise our HR policy; we are developing
skills, training and performance policies under the
auspices of the ESF.

working, for example, with the regional employment
market players and recruiting people from disadvan-
taged groups in our employment organisation.

Asbestos removal
In 2014 “Asbestos Removal Fireproofing” was
taken over by Viabuild. This meant that the group
gained valuable knowledge and experience from the
market leader in the area of asbestos removal and
passive fire protection.
In order to remove asbestos in a safe way, you
need expertise. Our employees have many years of
experience with large and small asbestos removal
projects in the industrial and civil engineering sector,
at home as well as abroad. Removing asbestos is not
without its risks. Our employees are trained and have
obtained the necessary certificates allowing them to
remove asbestos in a thorough and correct way.
We are also active in high-risk sectors and situations:
petrochemicals, process industry, working at a great
height, or with hazardous products, etc. We always
ensure that the work can be done smoothly and that
we have the right permits and signage.
What is asbestos?
The word “asbestos” comes from the Greek word
meaning inflammable. It is a natural mineral made
up of microscopically small fibres. Asbestos is found in
some layers of the rocky part of the earth’s crust and is
extracted in South America, Russia and Canada.
These three types are used the most:
• Chrysotile or white asbestos
• Amosite or brown asbestos
• Crocidolite or blue asbestos
Dangers of asbestos
Exposure to asbestos can bring with it serious health
risks. Microscopic fibres can enter the lungs through
inhalation. The greater the amount inhaled, the greater
the chance of illnesses such as cancer of the lungs,
pleural membranes or larynx. These illnesses have been
recognised as occupational illnesses caused by exposure
to asbestos at work.
Where does asbestos occur?
Because asbestos has such exceptional properties, it
was very widely used in industry and construction: it is
strong, wear-resistant, insulating, fireproof and cheap.
Its industrial applications include pipes, seals, cooling
towers, etc. In construction it was mainly used for sheets
of corrugated material, sewage pipes, roof tiles, flower
pots, sub-roof slabs, seals for stove doors etc. More than
3000 applications are known.

Asphalt and mastic asphalt works
Asphalting
The Asphalt department consists of employees who
have gained extensive experience working on our
own sites and as subcontractors to our customers.
They have acquired solid expertise in asphalting
through public and private construction projects.
By combining our team and the know-how and
diversity of our modern machinery, we are able to
offer a wide range of services. We implement high
return projects like motorways, airports or structural
maintenance works, the construction of private
industrial sites, or small or medium-sized car parks
to the highest quality standards.
For every assignment, we take the time to give
advice based on your specific requirements and
quality demands. After that, our skilled teams ensure
that this advice is adhered to down to the last detail.
Special applications such as coloured asphalt, combi
covering layers, etc., are possible. We are able to
offer a hardening rate specially adapted to each
project, with high quality results.
For our asphalt production, we have three asphalt
plants, two of which are COPRO certified. They
are the linchpin of our asphalt department and work
with the latest technologies and are supported by a
fully-equipped lab. The asphalt plant in Haren is a
leading manufacturer of mastic asphalt.
Sustainable and corporate social entrepreneurship
is very important at Viabuild. The demolition waste
from asphalt surfacing is reused to the greatest
extent possible when producing new asphalt
mixtures. This way we reduce CO2 emissions, we deal
with the materials available in an environmentally
aware manner and reduce the purchase of raw
materials.

Sealing and mastic asphalt works
This is a waterproof type of asphalt used as
surfacing on car park roofs, for making waterproof
and/or providing a protective layer on bridge
surfaces, surfacing pedestrian or cycle paths, water
channels, acid-resistant floors,…
Mastic asphalt is waterproof because of its high
bitumen content, which is typically double the
amount found in concrete asphalt. That is why it does
not need condensing like other types of asphalt. This
is a huge advantage when installing it on a car park
roof. The stiffness of the mastic ensures the stability
of the mastic asphalt. This is achieved by using
stiff bitumen and a high amount of filler. Physical
distortion is, however, possible. The processing
temperature is relatively high: 230 to 240°C.
Mastic asphalt is flexible and can cope with slight
shifts in the ground beneath it without cracking.
In comparison with other types of asphalt, mastic
asphalt is very durable.
The merging of BRUDA NV and the Asphaltco Civil
Engineering department with Viabuild has turned
our company into an experienced and specialised
partner for all projects involving sealing and
mastic asphalt in all its applications.
Transporting and installing mastic asphalt is done
by our own qualified and motivated employees who
have many years of experience. This ensures the
specific needs of our customers are always met.
It is thanks to the craftsmanship and wide experience
of our employees that the processing and applying of
mastic asphalt in all its forms can be done at a level
of extremely high quality.
We are specialised in installing bitumen sealing
membranes (by hand and by machine) and installing
liquid water sealing.
Viabuild offers you the possibility of combining
sealing works for bridges, tunnels and asphalting.
This way you avoid discussions and the delays caused
by subcontracting.

Soil decontamination and silt processing
Soil decontamination
Soil decontamination is the process whereby a piece
of soil is cleared of pollution. Various methods
and techniques can be used to do this. The choice
depends on the location, the type and severity
of contamination and the function of the land
(residential, industry, agriculture...). The price is
also a very important factor when choosing the
decontamination technique.
The various techniques can be categorised in three
groups:
• in situ - decontamination without earth moving,
the contamination is removed on the spot
• on site - contaminated soil is dug out, cleaned
on the spot and put back
• ex situ - contaminated soil is dug out, taken
away for treatment and/or processing elsewhere
Before every soil decontamination, a compulsory
soil examination has to be performed. Viabuild
will conduct the work based on the results of this
examination, your specific requirements and the
agreement of the authorised federal department.
Do you own a piece of contaminated land or do
you want to buy a piece of land? Viabuild will
ensure, in an efficient way, that the soil is ready
for its (new) use. We have various methods of soil
decontamination and a suitable solution for every
location.

Silt processing
VIABUILD NV is your point of contact for soil
treatment (TOP, temporary storage) and silt
recycling (SRC), for which we cooperate with Top
Meerhout NV, which has 5ha of land for these
operations.
Top Meerhout NV is your specialised partner and
can offer you a comprehensive service package for
any land to be cleaned, with or without a technical
report or where certain conditions apply.
Thanks to our 2ha lagoon field we are able to
offer a solution for the wet sludge from clearing
watercourses and dredging unnavigable and larger
waterways and canals. Here too we can come up with
a solution, irrespective of the chemical composition
of the materials.
Not only can you deposit materials, but Top Meerhout
NV, in cooperation with the neighbouring recycling
centre, offers a wide range of interesting secondary
materials to take with you on your return journey!
Top Meerhout NV is also a producer of Stabozand®
.
These are Copro certified and stabilised soils which
can be used as sub foundation in road construction,
industrial floors or as filler around sewer pipes etc.

Complex infrastructure works often need tunnels,
bridges for cars and cycles and reservoirs. For these
kinds of works we use concrete and steel structures.
We also specialise in water and railway related
projects. We have a strong know-how and wide
experience within the civil engineering sector. We
invest in high quality materials and strive constantly
to innovate. Our skilled workers have the professional
creativity and technical knowledge needed to be able
to realise complex works with special techniques.
Very often, infrastructure projects require technical
construction works.
Larger infrastructural works as well as smaller projects
are part of our competences.
With our own formwork teams and the creativity of our
workers, Viabuild is equipped with strong know-how,
covering a range of applications, making every concrete
construction, from simple to complex, a success., .
Road construction
The concrete from retaining walls, fountains from the
renovation of parks and squares can be used in the
building of tunnels, or bridges for cars and cycles as
part of larger infrastructure works.
Sewer and collector works
The realisation of complex sewage works is one of
Viabuild’s core activities. These projects always go
together with the realisation of various concrete
constructions such as pump stations, overflow
constructions, storage reservoirs, …. The construction
of water treatment plants are also a complementary
and a logical extension to such works. Viabuild’s
experience in this market segment means we are
a suitable partner for such assignments. We strive
constantly for innovation and optimisation for the
customer by making use of the appropriate techniques
needed to bring these projects to a successful end.
Railway related works
Apart from technical construction works for road and
sewer construction, Viabuild also performs railway
related works within its civil engineering department.
Adaptations and renovations of existing metro stations,
including the renovation of the platforms and the
building of lift shafts to provide disabled access are just
a few of Viabuild’s important references. We also offer
works in concrete and steel.
Bridge construction
It goes without saying that without references and
without experience in the building of bridges, a civil
engineering department would have little reason to
exist. During the past few years, Viabuild has carried
out some remarkable projects in this field and is proud
to say that in doing so we have become an important
player in this market segment.

At Viabuild your excavation works are in good hands.
We have been digging foundation pits for more than
50 years. Excavation works are done in the open air
or underground, regardless of the condition of the
soil, or the climate. To do this, Viabuild has not only
equipped with a driven work force, but modern and
efficient machinery.
We move mountains for your project. Literally,
sometimes. To do this, not only do we use heavy
equipment such as wheel loaders, mobile cranes,
caterpillar cranes and an extensive fleet of trucks,
but we also use laser equipment and advanced
measuring techniques for the fine detailed work.
Transporting soil, sand and other soil materials is
bound by environmental legislation. It goes without
saying that we are fully up to date on this legislation,
because transporting soil and ground material is part
of our expertise.
That way, we give your project a solid foundation
with extensive service from A to Z.

Production of asphalt and mastic asphalt
Asphalt is ideal for the construction of roads.
Due to the ease of processing and its fast installation,
the duration of the road works is kept to a minimum
and costs are reduced considerably. Asphalt is also
a very durable product and mastic asphalt is
extremely maintenance friendly.
The Viabuild asphalt plants are major producers of
warm asphalt mixtures which are used predominantly
as road surfaces, like mastic asphalt and concrete
asphalt. Our plants work with the latest techniques,
are COPRO certified and are supported by a fully-
equipped lab.

The environment is very important to Viabuild.
That is why we started recycling and processing
construction rubble a few decades ago. In the
meantime Viabuild has become a specialist when it
comes to recycling construction rubble.
At our recycle centres, with adjacent concrete
plants, you as a contractor or public administration
can bring your rubble, like asphalt, concrete rubble
and mixed rubble (whether or not it is mixed with
sand). These inert materials are broken down and
sieved until they become rubble granulate which
we can process as secondary materials in the
concrete plant.
Viabuild is a major producer of lean concrete, sand-
cement and stabilised rubble - products which are
mainly used as bound foundation materials in road
construction.
We also can supply you with broken concrete
rubble, broken asphalt rubble, broken mixed
rubble or sieved sand.

Sewers
The draining of waste water, the supply of drinking
water, etc., is often taken for granted, especially
if you consider that very complex and extensive
networks are needed to achieve this. Throughout
the years, Viabuild has grown into one of the
specialists for sewer and pipework networks.
Sewer system construction is so much more than
laying down some pipes. Pump stations, holding
basins, etc., are needed too.
The construction of sewer systems in residential
areas or/and at large depths requires the necessary
skills and materials in order to have the works
completed in a safe and smooth manner. Our
site foreman and workers all have the specific
knowledge and training to be able to perform these
works according to the rules.
Because of its many years of expertise, Viabuild
has accumulated the necessary expertise in the
techniques required, like sheet-piling, ground
stabilisation and excavations, to ensure perfection in
the construction of sewers and/or pipes.
Viabuild excels, especially in the urban environment,
in its phased approach and the use of the latest
techniques, making sure that the comfort of the
local residents is not compromised.
A well-constructed and maintained sewer system is
of paramount importance for the swift drainage of
water. Viabuild plays an important role in this too.
Viabuild has the equipment needed to inspect and
analyse a sewer system. Based on these analyses,
Viabuild can draft you a suitable replacement or
renovation proposal.

In special circumstances special measures need be
taken. Explosion, fire or disasters can result in a
building or structure collapsing. Viabuild has much
expertise in this kind of intervention. That is why
we are on call 24/7, to offer help with specialised
material and experienced, cool-headed
employees. That way the emergency services can
start working quickly and safely.

Viabuild stands for efficiency, knowledge of the field
and flexibility. Our company is a leading player in the
road works segment. For your larger and complex
road works we have a motivated and experienced
team at the ready.
We have experience ranging from building
motorways, renovating city centres and squares,
road works at airports, laying local and provincial
roads, district roads and roads in industrial areas,
to building car parks. We offer the best quality for
every project thanks to our extensive machinery and
fleet and our knowledge and experience.
We process and recycle all the materials from
demolition and construction ourselves in our
recycling centres. Part of these recycled products is
then used for the production of concrete and asphalt
in our own Viabuild concrete and asphalt plants.
Our various department heads each have their own
speciality and steer a team of experienced project
and site leaders. We also have our own study,
signage and purchase department, which works
closely together with other departments so that all
the projects can be implemented as efficiently as

Viabuild’s Fireproofing Division looks after the
passive fire protection in new builds, renovation
projects, industrial settings and construction
works. We deliver total projects, studies, advice,
engineering and maintenance. By professionally
installing fireproofing systems we protect your
building or industrial installation against the
consequences of fire. Also for residents and
emergency services.
Stability in case of fire
Fire temperatures quickly affect the stability of steel
and concrete in a negative way. It is vitally important
to equip the supporting construction of a building,
tunnel or installation with passive fire protection so
that “R” stability is guaranteed during a fire.
This can be done by applying fireproof cladding and/
or fireproof sprays.
Separating functions
“EI” fire separator functions prevent fire from
spreading into the adjacent compartment. Whether
it concerns penetration sealing of valves, pipes,
electrics, data, over dilatation joints, facade
connections, etc., Viabuild’s Fireproofing Division
can assist you. Lightweight fire walls or screens
can also be mounted, and fireproof divisions can be
installed in new or existing situations.

Conformity
Our specialised, skilled workers have been carrying
out fire protection works and have been gaining
more and more experience every day for a long
time. With every new project the technical file is
discussed beforehand with a view to agreeing on a
sound setup. If necessary, an knowledge upgrade will
follow, to ensure the work is done according to the
methods provided for in the fire tests.
Viabuild’s Fireproofing Division has its own
engineering department which acts and calculates
in line with the most recent systems and legal
standards. Project engineers will ensure a correct
site follow-up. This combination allows us to issue
certificates of conformity after the works have
been completed.
Quality - Safety
Safety is taken into account from the very beginning
and throughout the whole project. During the
works, the actual situation on site is also critically
considered, a topic for everyone to consider as
mentioned in the policy.
Quality checks and registrations are essential and
provide key information given the need to follow
the right instructions and use specific materials or
numbers per unit following on from the fire tests.

Sand pit
Viabuild Sud has a sand pit in Chaumont-Gistoux
with quality sand. In our recycle centre we recycle
demolition rubble and construction rubble into new
usable materials for the adjacent concrete plant.
We can also take care of transporting f these building
materials if you so wish.
