Let’s face it.
You’re frustrated.
It’s so difficult to feel certain about what you’re supposed to be doing with your life.
One minute, it’s the happiest day of your life, the next you’re feeling unsatisfied or even a bit depressed.
If only there was a way to find a real sense of meaning and purpose.
So that you could feel driven, motivated and like you’re on a clear path in life.
Well… it just so happens that you’re in luck.
Chantalle and I have been fortunate enough to get the No. 1 TIP from 33 influential bloggers to help you live a
meaningful and fulfilling life.
And we’re giving you all of their tips down below.
It’s very rare to find so much wisdom from so many different people in just one article…so make sure you don’t
miss out.
We know you’re more excited than a kid in a candy store, so here you go….
1.
Take the time to appreciate the little things in life. We tend to over plan which keeps us super busy. We never
stop to just be in the moment and enjoy what we have in life – whether it be an amazing cup of coffee or the
company we keep. It is these little things that are what truly brings us joy and happiness. When we learn to live in
the moment, we realize we are truly blessed.
In the past this was known as “stop to smell the roses”. In today’s culture it is more like “put the phone down and
enjoy life”. Too many times we have our head buried in our phones, unaware of life all around us. While it sounds
like a great idea to have a video of the event you are attending, wouldn’t it be better to actually be in the moment
and watch it with your own eyes than through your phone like you were watching TV?
So the next time you are running around, feeling stressed because you have 500 things to get done in the
next 15 minutes, take a moment to pause and enjoy everything you have and the beauty of life all around
you. It will make a world of difference in the long run.

The size of the Universe shrinks considerably when we place ourselves at the center. The most important tip for
living a fulfilling and meaningful life is to give—give money, give time, and give your talents. Generosity
reveals to us how important and valuable we are—it also helps us recognize that we already have enough.

Joshua’s blog “Becoming Minimalist” is about him and his families journey
towards a rational approach to minimalism. His blog has inspired millions
around the world. It is written to inspire people to intentionally live with
less. And find more life because of it.
3.
My number one tip for living a fulfilling and meaningful life is to make sure your daily life is aligned with
your values. We spend a lot of time in our culture living by this formula: “When _________ happens, then I will
be _________.” For example, “When I get a Lamborghini, then I will be happy.” Or, “When I lose 25 pounds, then I
will feel better about myself.”
Living by that formula is like living on a constant treadmill. As a matter of fact, researchers call it the “hedonic
treadmill” because it’s a goals-based formula that never ends. Once the goal of fill-in-the-blank is attained, we’re
happy for a while but then our happiness returns to its normal, baseline level.
There’s nothing wrong with goals, of course, but let’s set them in service of our values. What is a value? A value
is something that helps guide us, not something we achieve. It’s like the directions on a compass: the
direction of west never ends – it just helps us go that particular way. Values are similar – they help us go in the
way that makes life meaningful.
So, what’s a quick way to determine your values? Picture yourself at your 90th birthday party with all of your
friends and family in attendance. Each person stands up to make a toast to you. What do you want them to say
about you? “Joe is a great guy because he owned a Lamborghini” or “Joe has always been able to maintain
strong, loving relationships in his life”? “Karen is wonderful because she always stayed thin” or “Karen has led a
life filled with curiosity, adventure, and discovery”?
Want a meaningful life? Skip the formula and become more aware of the values that are most important to
you.

situation. And it’s about being able to accept ourselves completely, warts and all.
4.
My number one tip is to follow this rule:
Whatever scares you, go do it!
Every time you’re making a choice, one choice is the safe/comfortable choice – and one choice is the
risky/uncomfortable choice. The risky/uncomfortable choice is the one that will teach you the most and make you
grow the most, so that’s the one you should choose.

improvement, communication, business, philosophy, and cross-cultural relativism.
5.
My number one tip for living a fulfilling and meaningful life is to look for daily opportunities to serve those
around you – this could be a simple but hearty thank you to the person at the supermarket checkout point, saying
hello to the postman and offering him tea or it could be being totally present to your partner when they are sharing
about their tough day at work.
We have so many opportunities every day to serve others in a simple or grand way. And each time you do so,
your own energy goes up, you feel great and you make the world into a better place, bit by bit.
And your daily acts of service eventually cascade into a more heartfelt and meaningful life – both for you and
those around you.
Of course you don’t have to restrict yourself to just one act of service or kindness each day!
Play all out and make it your life mission to be of service and create random acts of kindness as you go through
life. Remember to make it fun too!

6.
My number one tip for living a fulfilling life is simple: be honest with yourself. Ask yourself the tough
questions: what makes me really happy? what am I good at? what do I really need to be happy?
Without knowing the answers to these type of questions, you don’t really understand who you are as a person,
what you want and how to get there. Once you’ve taken the time to answer these questions, you can start charting
your course to success and weeding out the obstacles in your way.

Living in the moment by being present and celebrating the little things with gratitude. That’s my number
one tip for living a fulfilling and meaningful life.
When we make appreciation and gratitude a habit, life automatically puts us on the path to happiness. Doing
everything with joy and love, focusing on what we have rather than what we do not makes life more meaningful.
While my Mom believed that I was born smiling, optimistic and cheerful, there came a time in my life when I had to
consciously practice looking at the silver linings. Understanding that no matter what, life always balances things
out is important. So is giving without expecting something in return.
My mantra is this: my day will go the way the corners of my mouth are turned – and, that happiness is a
DIY project.
I have learned to
pursue my passion and strive to do what makes me happy.
take digital vacations frequently and spend time interacting with people face-to-face.
let go of my inner critic
show negative thoughts and people the stop sign
Every night, before I go to bed, I have made it a habit to ask myself “What three things did I do today that I
am proud of?

Almost 40% of our time is spent working for a living. The number one tip I would offer is to either:
a) Find something you are deeply passionate about and try and build a business around that passion in
order to bring in money. If you do this it will never feel like work, and you will never be bored.
b) Find a job that truly fulfills you: a calling. If you find yourself watching the clock every day and can’t wait to
get home, you’re in the wrong job. You’re going to work for around 50 years of your life, don’t settle for second
best, even if it means going to college to get extra qualifications.
If you get the working side of your life sorted out and you have a great personal life, then you will truly live a
meaningful and fulfilling life.

9.
Stay grounded in this very moment. This breath, this step, this bite, this sound, this person right in front of you.
Meaning isn’t found in achieving some large, lofty goal or in fulfilling some grandiose purpose. It’s found not so
much in what you are doing as it is in who you are being and how you are showing up in each moment.
Most people imagine that finding fulfillment and meaning is the result of some complex and hard-won
search. It’s not. In fact, it’s much simpler than that: everything you’ve been searching for can be found by fully
immersing yourself in — by appreciating and caretaking — this moment. If you can do this, you’ll find that meaning
has been here all along.
Therese Schwenkler
The Unlost
Therese created her site because she thinks that most of the popular advice for
today’s generation sucks (and also, is boring), and she wanted to change that. She
offers what she believes to be better and truer answers to the questions we’re all
asking about life, love and work.
10.
Living a fulfilling and meaningful life first requires you to figure out what is fulfilling and meaningful to you. Take the
time and energy to learn what you’re passionate about and what gives you a sense of purpose. This might
take some time and research, but it is well worth it. Once you figure it out, spend as much time as possible doing
those things. If you can make it your career, all the better.
On a day-to-day basis, you can live a meaningful life by striving to live in the present moment as often as possible.
We get so caught up re-living the past or fretting about the future that we neglect to savor what we are doing or
experiencing right now. Focus intently on the task at hand — even if the task is as simple as washing a dish. Pay
full attention to the people around you, the beauty of nature, and the subtleties of every experience. Don’t
allow the busyness of life to steal the only reality you have — this moment.

11.
I have found that one of the best ways in helping you have a meaningful life is in the letting go. How do
you let go? This is difficult! You’re so attached to so many things in your life and so many bad habits. It’s all
connected to our expectations.
With people, when you expect something of a friend, co-worker, family member, spouse, and they don’t live up to
that expectation, then you are upset with them, or disappointed. It causes anger. What if you had no expectations
— then their actions would be neither good nor bad, just actions. You could accept them without frustration, anger
or sadness. Our bad habits are something else we must let go of. If you’re in the habit of worrying, being angry,
complaining or other bad habits, it’s time to let go of that too. Change those bad habits by giving them up and
thinking in a new way.
How do you let go? The main way I let go is by using my thoughts. Thinking makes it so. So the first thing you
need to do is to pretend that you’ve let go. As Wayne Dyer says, “Change your thoughts, change your life.”
Eventually your brain will believe your new thoughts, then finally you’ll see changes. It takes a while and isn’t
always easy. Letting go of attachments and outcomes is a freeing thing.

My #1 tip is to follow your inner authority. Learn how your body communicates with you. I call this my inner
GPS, but you could also call it your gut, heart, intuition, God, or whatever you’d like.
Your inner GPS will guide you through life. It is not the mind that guides you to fulfillment, but your inner GPS.
Each decision I make feels alive to me. It’s life living through me. So in essence, you could forget about fulfillment
and meaning, and learn how your inner GPS works. That alone would help you live the life you were meant to live.

13.
My #1 Tip: Set Daily Goals
Success in life does not happen in a flash, it is built one piece at a time, and the best way to achieve any success
is through daily goal setting.
I like to start every morning by deciding on the three most important tasks for the day. These tasks are often work
related, but can even be social; such as spending time with the family, or connecting with friends.
It is important to keep this daily list short. Other tasks will often creep up, making you feel overwhelmed or making
completing your most important tasks impossible. When you keep the list short, you resist the urge to split your
focus, multitask or leave work undone.
It is often best to start your day by tackling the hardest task first. Most people are at their mental “best” in the
morning. By tackling your most difficult task first, you make the most of your mental acuity when it is at best.
Additionally, finishing the hardest task first makes the rest of the day easier and more manageable, reducing
stress.
Setting daily goals actually helps you get more done, in less time while keeping stress lower. Some pretty
important stuff.

14.
Without doubt I would say it is living in alignment with your core values. Your core values define who you
are as a person, they are part of the very fabric of your being. Not understanding what they are and how they
effect you can vary from mildly annoying to catastrophic. Knowing your values will give you more clarity, more
purpose and make decision making a lot easier.

15.
Simply LOVE YourSELF – Self Love is the first imperative step towards living a fulfilling and meaningful
life. Its usually easy to say “hey love yourself”, but it’s hard to do when you have been torn down so many times
that you begin to think you don’t deserve love. Self love comes when you accept yourself just the way you are:
warts, moles, shortcomings, craziness and all. That acceptance of yourself just as you are, paves the way for a
deeper understanding of your truest desires, your deepest dreams that NEED to see the light of day for you to truly
succeed.
When you love yourself, you understand what you need and you don’t mix it up with other peoples
expectations of you. When you love yourself, you attract love into your life in the shape of a soul mate. You live
life on your own terms and that brings freedom to simply BE. You then have freedom to evolve into the unique soul
you were meant to be.

everything.
16.
Build habits that support your desired lifestyle. Until you do that, you’ll always be fighting your subconscious
mind. When you build the right habits, you’ll effortlessly live in a way that’s meaningful to you.
For me, everything changed when I developed habits in exercising and writing. Exercise keeps my mind and body
healthy, and writing is the way I contribute value to the world. Unlike before, I never have a wasted day anymore!

adding healthy habits to your life.
17.
If you want fulfillment and meaning in your life then choose fulfillment and meaning, deliberately add it as
an ingredient into each day! Pinning this down to a “number one tip”, I would suggest discovering all those
things about which you are most passionate, then actively pursuing them. Hear the whispers of your heart!
There will always be things that you “have to” do. Yet in your own time, make time to reflect over your life from
today to its end-point and become clearer on what you will regret not having done at the end. Meditation and
answering poignant questions are great tools for accomplishing this task. Once you know all the things that you
want to include in this one life of yours, get into action on those that are “a must” for you.
In a nutshell, write a bucket-list of your potential end of life regrets and each day take some action toward
living the items in it.
Every day, be sure to do something purely for yourself and to do something for “the whole” (everyone), no matter
how big or small. Intentionally, act towards finishing each day (and your life), feeling completely satisfied.

18.
Get totally uncomfortable. Get scared. Get anxious. Feel totally fucked up. Then do it anyway.
People say, “Get out of your comfort zone” or “Follow your dreams” all the time. But saying is easy. Doing is not.
That is why people end up procrastinating, giving up halfway through and end up complaining that their lives suck.
The entire point is to feel shitty and scared. Then you find the strength somehow and do it anyway.
You’ve got to do the work. And it’s just work man. It’s part of life. It’s not meant to make you feel super high
everyday, but it’s what makes life meaningful.
That’s how you live a fulfilling life, by doing the work when you don’t feel like it. Anything less, it too safe.

He tells it like it is, to heart of the matter.
19.
If you want to live a fulfilling and meaningful life, the best thing you can do is strive to stay in the present
moment. It’s difficult to do, particularly with all of the distractions we have around us, but staying present really
helps to create more meaning and fulfillment in our lives.
When you’re focusing on what’s happening now — not on what has happened or could happen — it
becomes much more difficult to have negative thoughts or to feel unhappy. Staying in the present moment
not only eases stress and combats negativity, but it also opens up the mind to gratitude, which is such an
important element for feeling fulfilled right where you are.

I’d say the answer lies in the question itself.
Unless and until your life has a meaning, it cannot be fulfilling. You may have some fun for some time without
making your life meaningful, but that’s not fulfilling because you’ll run out of the fun soon and make your life
miserable.
To make your life meaningful, you need to have a purpose in life. It’s sad but true that most of us spend our entire
lives without any positive purpose.
Finding your life’s purpose isn’t easy too. That purpose has to be evergreen and should bring happiness into your
life. It’s not about earning millions or making the blog rank high. It has got to be more substantial and of value.
To discover your purpose, you need to discover and know yourself. Find out how you are different and
special. The more you know yourself, the better you know what to do, and wiser are the choices you make.
It’s important that you choose and do the right things to make your life fulfilling and meaningful. For that, you
should know yourself and have a purpose.

21.
My number one tip for a fulfilling and meaningful life is to know yourself, and to be perfectly happy with
who you are. Finding the answer to this one question can set you free of comparing yourself, judging yourself,
changing yourself for the wrong reasons, and being untrue to yourself as you go through good and hard times in
life.
And how would you do that? Getting to know yourself is a process and you can start by examining your beliefs,
and identifying self-limiting ones that stop your growth, and by finding your life purpose with these 25
questions. When you understand your beliefs and your life purpose, a sense of clarity and calm will envelop you
and you will know how to take the right steps to create a fulfilling and meaningful life.

years ago with her simple blog and the process led her to completely re-inventing
herself. She quit her corporate job and became a full-time entrepreneur.
22.
My number one tip is to always have a project that inspires you. I’d argue that it’s not always possible to align
a lot of our lives with what makes us fulfilled.
There are always requirements to earn a living, provide for family, etc. But we can always, at the very least, pick
personal projects that inspire and excite us in spite of these constraints.
Scott Young
Scotthyoung.com
Scott has written over 1000 articles, and a few free eBooks and guides exploring what it
means to get more from life. The theme of posts ranges from productivity to learning to the
meaning of life.
23.
I think everyone should find something they’re passionate about and go to bed each night better at it than
the night before. No matter what troubles you’re going through you’ll always have something you’re getting
better at which is awesome in itself, but I think it’s also highly beneficial psychologically if you’re always ‘winning’
at something.
For me, it’s advanced body-weight exercises when I’m awake and lucid dreaming when I’m asleep. When I was a
kid it was rollerblading and soccer at various points in my life, then it was getting stronger in the gym as I got
older. It could be drawing, playing an instrument, meditation, coding, or anything else you’re interested in. Just
choose something you love and keep achieving mini goals as you strive towards mastery.
Jamie Alexander
Lucid Ability
Jamie’s goal it to promote lucid dreaming (being aware of the fact that you’re
dreaming) until everyone in the world is practicing it.
24.
Read about other people’s writing regarding the pursuit of fulfillment and meaning. “How should we live?” is
an ancient philosophical question and people have been answering it for centuries. Read it all, try things, and see
what works for you.
Read contemporary stuff like Richard Carlson and Jon Kabat-Zinn, and older stuff like Sartre, Nietzsche,
Schopenhauer and other philosophers, all the way back to ancient Greece. These people have excellent
answers to that big question of how to live, and so few people make use of them. Read!
David Cain
Raptitude
David’s blog is all about learning to be better at being human. He writes about a whole
set of skills that school’s don’t teach us. He believes we can become better at being
human.
25.
I actually have a couple of tips as I believe they are both equally important to living a fulfilling and meaningful life.
Firstly, you need to understand and elicit your values. That is, you need to identify what it is that truly ignites
you inside. What is it that you live for? What do you base all of your decisions on? What are you normally doing
when you feel that experience of “flow”.
When you have a clear understanding of your values (and the hierarchy of these values) you then have a clear
understanding of what motivates you and you can then make more informed (and better) decisions in your life.
Secondly, surrounding yourself with people that share your values will rapidly increase your success in living
a fulfilling and meaningful life.
For example, my number one value is to leave a legacy in this world. I want to be on my death bed knowing that I
have changed someone’s life or something in the world for the better. Whether that be my own children or a
stranger on the other side of the world, it doesn’t matter. What I do know is that from now until that moment I’m on
my deathbed I will be making decisions that fulfill that value of mine. To support me in this, I’ve connected with
other like-minded people who also want to leave a legacy and this enables me to grow and learn from others and
expand my reach.

27.
My number one tip for living a meaningful and fulfilling life is to believe that everyone has a higher
purpose and that everything we do matters. Look deep within and take an assessment of what you truly love
doing. You’ll find that your purpose is tied to what you love doing and if you dig deeper you’ll find that you have a
philosophy around why this thing you love matters. When you know why it matters your purpose will drive you to
make a contribution in this area.
Once you discover your purpose and why it matters find a way to use it to help others. The secret of having
meaning in your life is to know that you’ve been able to give something valuable of yourself to humanity.
That “valuable thing” comprises your time, your compassion and your purpose. Finding meaning and making a
contribution that truly helps people is what leads to fulfillment.
Angela Artemis
Powered By Intuition
Angela teaches people to develop and follow their intuition so that they can stop
hiding from life, follow their inner voice, and become inspired and motivated to find
their purpose and follow their biggest dreams.
28.
Find your purpose in life. Until you know your “why”, it’s difficult for you to live a fulfilling and meaningful life. You
must have something to live for, something that gives meaning to everything you do.
Donald Latumahina
Life Optimizer
Living life to its fullest! That’s the mission statement of Donald, the founder of Life
Optimizer. He beliefs that a lot of people live below their potential and that they can
achieve more in their life.
29.
I would say that my #1 tip for living a fulfilling and meaningful life is to follow Rumi’s wisdom when he said “The
soul is here for it’s own joy.”
We spend so much time trying to be professionally successful, spiritually fulfilled, socially acceptable, physically fit
and on and on. We get so involved with the busyiness (and the business) of life that we forget that we are here for
joy. So take some time to “just be” and find the joy that is already within you. Once discovered it will
invigorate everything you do and sweeten every aspect of your life.

Irene is serious about helping people to find the tools they need to achieve their self
improvement goals and begin to experience the happiness they desire.
30.
Surround yourself with people who make you better and inspire possibility because the fastest way to do the
things you don’t think can be done is to hang around people already doing them.
Scott Dinsmore
Live Your Legend
Scott believes that the world would be an altogether different place if we all did work
that actually mattered to us. Because when we focus our time and talents on the work
that means something to us, it starts to matter to those around us as well. That’s what
starts to change the world.
31.
What actually constitutes a fulfilling and meaningful life is, of course, different for everyone. But here’s where it
starts. If I feel that right now my life isn’t fulfilling or meaningful, I’d first ask myself “Where am I placing
the blame?” If I’m placing blame on something outside of myself (people, circumstances) then I have no power to
change things. But when I take ownership and responsibility, I return the power to myself to create the fulfilling and
meaningful life I want.
After that, I’d be guided by the words themselves (fulfilling & meaningful), both of which contain ‘full’. It can be
helpful to take this quite literally and take note of the people, places, experiences or actions that really make you
feel full up or full of life. I think we’ve all experienced those moments at one time or another and so living a fulfilling
and meaningful life can simply be a case of seeking out those things more often. For me, it’s actually the small
things that give me that deep sense of fullness: things like a smile exchanged with a stranger,
volunteering in my local community, watching the sun go down or being deep in conversation with a
client. For me, it comes down to connections with people and nature.

32.
Don’t should on yourself. Whether it’s doing laundry or choosing a job, ignore the voice that says you should and
dig deeper to find a reason that matters. If you can’t find a reason that resonates, make a different choice.

love and more of what they do. It’s about finding happiness in the everyday and
summoning the courage to do the extraordinary. It’s about encouraging people to trust
themselves as the expert of their own happiness.
33.
Start small. I think too many people imagine a “meaningful life” as pursuing this big dream – like becoming
rich, famous, and successful – but it doesn’t have to be that grand or unreachable.
Living a meaningful life is about finding meaning in the small things. It’s way easier than people make it out to be.
Something as simple as playing music, or painting, or photography are all easy hobbies to take up that will give
you an extra sense of meaning and accomplishment. They certainly helped me add meaning to my life when I was
going through a depression and had nowhere else to turn.
Meaning isn’t magic. You don’t need to find some almighty purpose to drive you. It’s just about finding easy and
small ways to be more creative. It’s about becoming more of an active participant in your world, and less of
a passive observer.

Wow! How much good advice was that?
Even though I’ve put this article together, I also feel so grateful to have been able to read about what all these
amazing bloggers have to say.
We’re forever searching for ways to live a more meaningful and fulfilling life and yet there seems to be so little
good advice on the topic.
I truly hope that after reading this, you feel more prepared and capable of taking actions and making choices that
will give you more purpose and fulfilment in your life.
If I can give you my two cents, my number 1 tip would be:
Take what you have learnt today and apply it to your life.
Please don’t walk away and forget it all. If you want to live a meaningful and fulfilling life, you have to be willing to
spend energy in applying what you have learnt to your life.
Read through this article again, reflect on it, meditate on it…and you’ll watch yourself grow and develop into the

33 Experts Share Their No. 1 On Living A Fulfilling And Meaningful Life

  • 1. want2discover.com http://want2discover.com/33-experts-share-their-no-1-tip-on-living-a-fulfilling-and-meaningful-life/ Let’s face it. 1 TIP from 33 influential bloggers to help you live a meaningful and fulfilling life. And we’re giving you all of their tips down below. It’s very rare to find so much wisdom from so many different people in just one article…so make sure you don’t miss out. We know you’re more excited than a kid in a candy store, so here you go….
  • 2. 1. Take the time to appreciate the little things in life. We tend to over plan which keeps us super busy. We never stop to just be in the moment and enjoy what we have in life – whether it be an amazing cup of coffee or the company we keep. It is these little things that are what truly brings us joy and happiness. When we learn to live in the moment, we realize we are truly blessed. In the past this was known as “stop to smell the roses”. In today’s culture it is more like “put the phone down and enjoy life”. Too many times we have our head buried in our phones, unaware of life all around us. While it sounds like a great idea to have a video of the event you are attending, wouldn’t it be better to actually be in the moment and watch it with your own eyes than through your phone like you were watching TV? So the next time you are running around, feeling stressed because you have 500 things to get done in the next 15 minutes, take a moment to pause and enjoy everything you have and the beauty of life all around you. It will make a world of difference in the long run. Don Dulin Breath of Optimism Don began his site Breath of Optimism because he is a firm believer that our thoughts affect our lives. His site discusses the benefits of positive thinking and illustrates ways to be the best person you can be. 2. The size of the Universe shrinks considerably when we place ourselves at the center. The most important tip for living a fulfilling and meaningful life is to give—give money, give time, and give your talents. Generosity reveals to us how important and valuable we are—it also helps us recognize that we already have enough. Joshua Becker Becoming Minimalist Joshua’s blog “Becoming Minimalist” is about him and his families journey towards a rational approach to minimalism. His blog has inspired millions around the world. It is written to inspire people to intentionally live with less. And find more life because of it. 3. My number one tip for living a fulfilling and meaningful life is to make sure your daily life is aligned with
  • 3. your values. We spend a lot of time in our culture living by this formula: “When _________ happens, then I will be _________.” For example, “When I get a Lamborghini, then I will be happy.” Or, “When I lose 25 pounds, then I will feel better about myself.” Living by that formula is like living on a constant treadmill. As a matter of fact, researchers call it the “hedonic treadmill” because it’s a goals-based formula that never ends. Once the goal of fill-in-the-blank is attained, we’re happy for a while but then our happiness returns to its normal, baseline level. There’s nothing wrong with goals, of course, but let’s set them in service of our values. What is a value? A value is something that helps guide us, not something we achieve. It’s like the directions on a compass: the direction of west never ends – it just helps us go that particular way. Values are similar – they help us go in the way that makes life meaningful. So, what’s a quick way to determine your values? Picture yourself at your 90th birthday party with all of your friends and family in attendance. Each person stands up to make a toast to you. What do you want them to say about you? “Joe is a great guy because he owned a Lamborghini” or “Joe has always been able to maintain strong, loving relationships in his life”? “Karen is wonderful because she always stayed thin” or “Karen has led a life filled with curiosity, adventure, and discovery”? Want a meaningful life? Skip the formula and become more aware of the values that are most important to you. Bobbi Emel The Bounce Blog Bobbi’s passion is to help people bounce back from life’s challenges – the big ones as well as the little ones that trip people up on a daily basis. The Bounce Blog is about developing the ability to say yes to whatever happens in life – good, bad, or indifferent. It’s about being fully present, bringing the best of who we are to every situation. And it’s about being able to accept ourselves completely, warts and all. 4. My number one tip is to follow this rule: Whatever scares you, go do it! Every time you’re making a choice, one choice is the safe/comfortable choice – and one choice is the risky/uncomfortable choice. The risky/uncomfortable choice is the one that will teach you the most and make you grow the most, so that’s the one you should choose.
  • 4. Derek Sivers Sivers.org Derek is an entrepreneur, programmer, avid student of life. He makes useful things, and shares what he learns. He’s fascinated with the usable psychology of self- improvement, communication, business, philosophy, and cross-cultural relativism. 5. My number one tip for living a fulfilling and meaningful life is to look for daily opportunities to serve those around you – this could be a simple but hearty thank you to the person at the supermarket checkout point, saying hello to the postman and offering him tea or it could be being totally present to your partner when they are sharing about their tough day at work. We have so many opportunities every day to serve others in a simple or grand way. And each time you do so, your own energy goes up, you feel great and you make the world into a better place, bit by bit. And your daily acts of service eventually cascade into a more heartfelt and meaningful life – both for you and those around you. Of course you don’t have to restrict yourself to just one act of service or kindness each day! Play all out and make it your life mission to be of service and create random acts of kindness as you go through life. Remember to make it fun too! Arvind Devalia Make It Happen Arvind is a coach, speaker, and author of Amazon best-seller “Get the Life you Love”. He is on a mission to transform the world. Don’t forget to check out his blog. 6. My number one tip for living a fulfilling life is simple: be honest with yourself. Ask yourself the tough questions: what makes me really happy? what am I good at? what do I really need to be happy? Without knowing the answers to these type of questions, you don’t really understand who you are as a person, what you want and how to get there. Once you’ve taken the time to answer these questions, you can start charting your course to success and weeding out the obstacles in your way.
  • 5. Erin Falconer Pick The Brain Erin is a Canadian living in Los Angeles. She has had a varied career that includes being a screenplay writer, stand-up comedian, political consultant and is now proudly, heavily invested in the online blogging world. Since 2008, she has been the editor in chief and co-owner of PickTheBrain – one of the fastest growing and most trusted self improvement websites & communities on the web. 7. Living in the moment by being present and celebrating the little things with gratitude. That’s my number one tip for living a fulfilling and meaningful life. When we make appreciation and gratitude a habit, life automatically puts us on the path to happiness. Doing everything with joy and love, focusing on what we have rather than what we do not makes life more meaningful. While my Mom believed that I was born smiling, optimistic and cheerful, there came a time in my life when I had to consciously practice looking at the silver linings. Understanding that no matter what, life always balances things out is important. So is giving without expecting something in return. My mantra is this: my day will go the way the corners of my mouth are turned – and, that happiness is a DIY project. I have learned to pursue my passion and strive to do what makes me happy. take digital vacations frequently and spend time interacting with people face-to-face. let go of my inner critic show negative thoughts and people the stop sign Every night, before I go to bed, I have made it a habit to ask myself “What three things did I do today that I am proud of? Vidya Sury Vidyasury.com Vidya’s goal is to make a positive difference in people’s life. She started her blog as a fun experiment in a rather disorganized way in 2003, sharing snippets of personal life, jokes and thoughts. Over the years, she has become more focused and writes about personal development, happiness and relationships & some other great topics. 8. Almost 40% of our time is spent working for a living. The number one tip I would offer is to either:
  • 6. a) Find something you are deeply passionate about and try and build a business around that passion in order to bring in money. If you do this it will never feel like work, and you will never be bored. b) Find a job that truly fulfills you: a calling. If you find yourself watching the clock every day and can’t wait to get home, you’re in the wrong job. You’re going to work for around 50 years of your life, don’t settle for second best, even if it means going to college to get extra qualifications. If you get the working side of your life sorted out and you have a great personal life, then you will truly live a meaningful and fulfilling life. Steven Aitchison Change Your Thoughts Steven gained his degree in Psychology in 2000 from Glasgow Caledonian University. He has worked as a business manager and recently worked as an addiction worker for six years. In September 2012 he gave up his job and realised his dream of setting up a business and working from home. 9. Stay grounded in this very moment. This breath, this step, this bite, this sound, this person right in front of you. Meaning isn’t found in achieving some large, lofty goal or in fulfilling some grandiose purpose. It’s found not so much in what you are doing as it is in who you are being and how you are showing up in each moment. Most people imagine that finding fulfillment and meaning is the result of some complex and hard-won search. It’s not. In fact, it’s much simpler than that: everything you’ve been searching for can be found by fully immersing yourself in — by appreciating and caretaking — this moment. If you can do this, you’ll find that meaning has been here all along. Therese Schwenkler The Unlost Therese created her site because she thinks that most of the popular advice for today’s generation sucks (and also, is boring), and she wanted to change that. • 7. Living a fulfilling and meaningful life first requires you to figure out what is fulfilling and meaningful to you. Take the time and energy to learn what you’re passionate about and what gives you a sense of purpose. This might take some time and research, but it is well worth it. Once you figure it out, spend as much time as possible doing those things. If you can make it your career, all the better. On a day-to-day basis, you can live a meaningful life by striving to live in the present moment as often as possible. We get so caught up re-living the past or fretting about the future that we neglect to savor what we are doing or experiencing right now. Focus intently on the task at hand — even if the task is as simple as washing a dish. Pay full attention to the people around you, the beauty of nature, and the subtleties of every experience. Don’t allow the busyness of life to steal the only reality you have — this moment. Barrie Davenport Live Bold & Bloom Barrie is a personal growth seeker, published author, and certified coach committed to helping people shift their thinking, create positive new habits, and build lifetime confidence. 11. I have found that one of the best ways in helping you have a meaningful life is in the letting go. How do you let go? This is difficult! You’re so attached to so many things in your life and so many bad habits. It’s all connected to our expectations. With people, when you expect something of a friend, co-worker, family member, spouse, and they don’t live up to that expectation, then you are upset with them, or disappointed. It causes anger. What if you had no expectations — then their actions would be neither good nor bad, just actions. You could accept them without frustration, anger or sadness. Our bad habits are something else we must let go of. If you’re in the habit of worrying, being angry, complaining or other bad habits, it’s time to let go of that too. Change those bad habits by giving them up and thinking in a new way. How do you let go? The main way I let go is by using my thoughts. Thinking makes it so. So the first thing you need to do is to pretend that you’ve let go. As Wayne Dyer says, “Change your thoughts, change your life.” Eventually your brain will believe your new thoughts, then finally you’ll see changes. It takes a while and isn’t always easy. Letting go of attachments and outcomes is a freeing thing.

I call this my inner GPS, but you could also call it your gut, heart, intuition, God, or whatever you’d like. Your inner GPS will guide you through life. It is not the mind that guides you to fulfillment, but your inner GPS. Each decision I make feels alive to me. It’s life living through me. So in essence, you could forget about fulfillment and meaning, and learn how your inner GPS works. That alone would help you live the life you were meant to live. My #1 Tip: Set Daily Goals Success in life does not happen in a flash, it is built one piece at a time, and the best way to achieve any success is through daily goal setting. I like to start every morning by deciding on the three most important tasks for the day. These tasks are often work related, but can even be social; such as spending time with the family, or connecting with friends. It is important to keep this daily list short. Other tasks will often creep up, making you feel overwhelmed or making completing your most important tasks impossible. When you keep the list short, you resist the urge to split your focus, multitask or leave work undone. It is often best to start your day by tackling the hardest task first. Most people are at their mental “best” in the morning. By tackling your most difficult task first, you make the most of your mental acuity when it is at best. Additionally, finishing the hardest task first makes the rest of the day easier and more manageable, reducing stress. Setting daily goals actually helps you get more done, in less time while keeping stress lower. Some pretty

Without doubt I would say it is living in alignment with your core values. Your core values define who you are as a person, they are part of the very fabric of your being. Not understanding what they are and how they effect you can vary from mildly annoying to catastrophic. Knowing your values will give you more clarity, more purpose and make decision making a lot easier. Simply LOVE YourSELF – Self Love is the first imperative step towards living a fulfilling and meaningful life. Its usually easy to say “hey love yourself”, but it’s hard to do when you have been torn down so many times that you begin to think you don’t deserve love. Self love comes when you accept yourself just the way you are: warts, moles, shortcomings, craziness and all. That acceptance of yourself just as you are, paves the way for a deeper understanding of your truest desires, your deepest dreams that NEED to see the light of day for you to truly succeed. When you love yourself, you understand what you need and you don’t mix it up with other peoples expectations of you. When you love yourself, you attract love into your life in the shape of a soul mate. You live life on your own terms and that brings freedom to simply BE. You then have freedom to evolve into the unique soul you were meant to be.

Until you do that, you’ll always be fighting your subconscious mind. When you build the right habits, you’ll effortlessly live in a way that’s meaningful to you. Stephen Guise Deep Existence Stephen is the author of the Amazon bestseller, Mini Habits—an effective strategy for adding healthy habits to your life. 17. If you want fulfillment and meaning in your life then choose fulfillment and meaning, deliberately add it as an ingredient into each day! Pinning this down to a “number one tip”, I would suggest discovering all those things about which you are most passionate, then actively pursuing them. Hear the whispers of your heart! There will always be things that you “have to” do. Yet in your own time, make time to reflect over your life from today to its end-point and become clearer on what you will regret not having done at the end. Meditation and answering poignant questions are great tools for accomplishing this task. Once you know all the things that you want to include in this one life of yours, get into action on those that are “a must” for you. In a nutshell, write a bucket-list of your potential end of life regrets and each day take some action toward living the items in it. Every day, be sure to do something purely for yourself and to do something for “the whole” (everyone), no matter how big or small. Intentionally, act towards finishing each day (and your life), feeling completely satisfied.

It’s not meant to make you feel super high everyday, but it’s what makes life meaningful. That’s how you live a fulfilling life, by doing the work when you don’t feel like it. Anything less, it too safe. Alden Tan Alden-Tan.com Alden keeps it real at his blog and writes about motivation in unconventional ways. He tells it like it is, to heart of the matter. 19. If you want to live a fulfilling and meaningful life, the best thing you can do is strive to stay in the present moment. It’s difficult to do, particularly with all of the distractions we have around us, but staying present really helps to create more meaning and fulfillment in our lives. When you’re focusing on what’s happening now — not on what has happened or could happen — it becomes much more difficult to have negative thoughts or to feel unhappy. Staying in the present moment not only eases stress and combats negativity, but it also opens up the mind to gratitude, which is such an important element for feeling fulfilled right where you are.

Anything and everything focused on positive personal development has a home on Positively Present 20. I’d say the answer lies in the question itself. Unless and until your life has a meaning, it cannot be fulfilling. You may have some fun for some time without making your life meaningful, but that’s not fulfilling because you’ll run out of the fun soon and make your life miserable. To make your life meaningful, you need to have a purpose in life. It’s sad but true that most of us spend our entire lives without any positive purpose. Finding your life’s purpose isn’t easy too. That purpose has to be evergreen and should bring happiness into your life. It’s not about earning millions or making the blog rank high. It has got to be more substantial and of value. To discover your purpose, you need to discover and know yourself. Find out how you are different and special. The more you know yourself, the better you know what to do, and wiser are the choices you make. It’s important that you choose and do the right things to make your life fulfilling and meaningful. For that, you should know yourself and have a purpose. Harleena Singh Aha!NOW Aha!NOW is all about bringing happiness into your life. My number one tip for a fulfilling and meaningful life is to know yourself, and to be perfectly happy with who you are. Finding the answer to this one question can set you free of comparing yourself, judging yourself, changing yourself for the wrong reasons, and being untrue to yourself as you go through good and hard times in life. And how would you do that? Getting to know yourself is a process and you can start by examining your beliefs, and identifying self-limiting ones that stop your growth, and by finding your life purpose with these 25

My number one tip is to always have a project that inspires you. I’d argue that it’s not always possible to align a lot of our lives with what makes us fulfilled. There are always requirements to earn a living, provide for family, etc. But we can always, at the very least, pick personal projects that inspire and excite us in spite of these constraints. I think everyone should find something they’re passionate about and go to bed each night better at it than the night before. No matter what troubles you’re going through you’ll always have something you’re getting better at which is awesome in itself, but I think it’s also highly beneficial psychologically if you’re always ‘winning’ at something. For me, it’s advanced body-weight exercises when I’m awake and lucid dreaming when I’m asleep. When I was a kid it was rollerblading and soccer at various points in my life, then it was getting stronger in the gym as I got older. It could be drawing, playing an instrument, meditation, coding, or anything else you’re interested in. Just choose something you love and keep achieving mini goals as you strive towards mastery.

Read about other people’s writing regarding the pursuit of fulfillment and meaning. “How should we live?” is an ancient philosophical question and people have been answering it for centuries. Read it all, try things, and see what works for you. Read contemporary stuff like Richard Carlson and Jon Kabat-Zinn, and older stuff like Sartre, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and other philosophers, all the way back to ancient Greece. These people have excellent answers to that big question of how to live, and so few people make use of them. Read! David Cain Raptitude David’s blog is all about learning to be better at being human. He writes about a whole set of skills that school’s don’t teach us. He believes we can become better at being human. 25. I actually have a couple of tips as I believe they are both equally important to living a fulfilling and meaningful life. Firstly, you need to understand and elicit your values. That is, you need to identify what it is that truly ignites you inside. What is it that you live for? What do you base all of your decisions on? What are you normally doing when you feel that experience of “flow”. When you have a clear understanding of your values (and the hierarchy of these values) you then have a clear understanding of what motivates you and you can then make more informed (and better) decisions in your life. Secondly, surrounding yourself with people that share your values will rapidly increase your success in living a fulfilling and meaningful life. For example, my number one value is to leave a legacy in this world. I want to be on my death bed knowing that I have changed someone’s life or something in the world for the better. Whether that be my own children or a stranger on the other side of the world, it doesn’t matter. What I do know is that from now until that moment I’m on my deathbed I will be making decisions that fulfill that value of mine. To support me in this, I’ve connected with other like-minded people who also want to leave a legacy and this enables me to grow and learn from others and expand my reach.

Amit Amin Happier Human At HappierHuman, Amit breaks down positive psychology and behavior modification research into simple, actionable steps. 27. My number one tip for living a meaningful and fulfilling life is to believe that everyone has a higher purpose and that everything we do matters. Look deep within and take an assessment of what you truly love doing. You’ll find that your purpose is tied to what you love doing and if you dig deeper you’ll find that you have a philosophy around why this thing you love matters. When you know why it matters your purpose will drive you to make a contribution in this area. Once you discover your purpose and why it matters find a way to use it to help others. The secret of having meaning in your life is to know that you’ve been able to give something valuable of yourself to humanity. That “valuable thing” comprises your time, your compassion and your purpose. Finding meaning and making a contribution that truly helps people is what leads to fulfillment.

I would say that my #1 tip for living a fulfilling and meaningful life is to follow Rumi’s wisdom when he said “The soul is here for it’s own joy.” We spend so much time trying to be professionally successful, spiritually fulfilled, socially acceptable, physically fit and on and on. We get so involved with the busyiness (and the business) of life that we forget that we are here for joy. So take some time to “just be” and find the joy that is already within you. Once discovered it will invigorate everything you do and sweeten every aspect of your life. • 17. 30. Surround yourself with people who make you better and inspire possibility because the fastest way to do the things you don’t think can be done is to hang around people already doing them. Scott Dinsmore Live Your Legend Scott believes that the world would be an altogether different place if we all did work that actually mattered to us. Because when we focus our time and talents on the work that means something to us, it starts to matter to those around us as well. That’s what starts to change the world. 31. What actually constitutes a fulfilling and meaningful life is, of course, different for everyone. But here’s where it starts. If I feel that right now my life isn’t fulfilling or meaningful, I’d first ask myself “Where am I placing the blame?” If I’m placing blame on something outside of myself (people, circumstances) then I have no power to change things. But when I take ownership and responsibility, I return the power to myself to create the fulfilling and meaningful life I want. After that, I’d be guided by the words themselves (fulfilling & meaningful), both of which contain ‘full’. It can be helpful to take this quite literally and take note of the people, places, experiences or actions that really make you feel full up or full of life. I think we’ve all experienced those moments at one time or another and so living a fulfilling and meaningful life can simply be a case of seeking out those things more often. For me, it’s actually the small things that give me that deep sense of fullness: things like a smile exchanged with a stranger, volunteering in my local community, watching the sun go down or being deep in conversation with a client. For me, it comes down to connections with people and nature. Leah Cox Leahmarjoriecox.com Leah is a Transformational Coach and Writer. Start small. I think too many people imagine a “meaningful life” as pursuing this big dream – like becoming rich, famous, and successful – but it doesn’t have to be that grand or unreachable. Living a meaningful life is about finding meaning in the small things. It’s way easier than people make it out to be.
