2. ■ IESAfonso X O Sabio promotes working in teams and Project-based learning so our
students, teachers and staff can learn while cooperating each other.
■ These projects started since the school opened, nearly 20 years ago and they help to:
– Improve school community cohesion.
– Develop different skills both in teachers and students.
– Help to be engaged with different methodologies and improve the quality of our
teachers.
– Have the opportunity of working with people from outside of our school.

4. Library Project: PLAMBE
■ It is funded by the Regional Department
■ It has been involved aroung 10 teachers per year since 15 years ago.
■ It has involved other projects, such as ARCE (Exchange Project funded my the National
Educational Ministry)
■ It includes different iniciatives so we can promote the School Library what includes
increasing and atracting our students to books, movies and music.

5. Innovative projects: PROXECTA
■ This Project has been developed in our school since five years ago.
■ It belongs to the Regional Department.
■ PROXECTA includes the possibility of developing different projects.They deal with
different topics, normally related to values education: environmental education
(Climántica, Meteoescolas), consciousness about conssumption (Galicons.net,
consumopolis), working with NGOs (Rede de Centros Escolares Solidarios, Doazón de
órganos), Health education (different Sports projects such as XOGADE, healthy food,
Froita na escola, Classrooms against smoke, Clases sen fume, etc), emotional education
(Quérote+), geographical projects (Terra), debate projects (Parlalmento Xove).
■ These projects help to:
– Students learn in a different way, they increase their motivation and are responsable of
their own knowledge.
– Teachers learn to work together, we have to discuss organizative aspects and focus on
goals
6. Long-life learning Project for teachers
■ It started five years ago.
■ We completed two projects of two years each for training teachers in order to
strenthen their professional skills.
■ We receive funds from the Regional Department and we have autonomy to develop
our own formation for teachers.
■ Nowadays we have training related to:
– English as a basic tool for teachers
– ICT
– Environmental tools
– European projects
7. Bilingual sections
■ Since 2009, our schools has been involved with the Bilingual sections program.
■ In the past we received funds from the Regional Department.
■ Teachers teach a non language subjetc through a foreign language.
■ Nowadays we have: Maths, Social Science, Music and Arts&Crafts in English and
Arts&Crafts in French.
■ Our teachers have the chance to be involved in different CLIL courses and had the
chance of job-shadowing in Canada through a specific Project called PIALE.
■ These group of teachers organise each year a school trip to an specific foreign country.
8. European projects
■ Since 15 years ago we have been developing different European projects dealing with
topics related to our school.
■ Mostly, we have developed Comenius multilateral, but nowadays we develop KA2 projects
focused in improved our teacher´s skills, increase our students motivation and learning
opportunities.
■ This year we applied for a KA1 for ourVET students.
■ We have a group of teachers (normally around 10 teachers working together), we have
different meetings regularly and we have also meetings with students and parents, so
these projects increase cohesion in our school.
■ These projects are funded by the European Union and make us work with our National
Agency and our Regional Department.

9. ICT Project:ABALAR and E-DIXGAL
■ Five years ago we started to be involved in a Project calledABALAR, related to the
Regional Department and the Spanish Educational Ministry (Escuela 2.0)
■ Through this Project we have the possibility to work with a netbook with all our kids (first
two grades).
■ Since this current academy year we started to work with electronic books.Teachers have a
sort of Moodle platform, there are no physic books and students can take their netbook
from school to their houses, so, through this Project we are:
– Reducing the digital gap among students.
– Cutting down the weight of the school-bags.
– Promoting learning through ICT tools and helping teachers to organise and developed
their own OER.

10. Environmental project
■ This Project is related to other projects of our school: Long-life learning program, European
Project, Reducing school failure.
■ It was awarded with the most important Educational Prize in our región in 2013.
■ It has been developed since more tan 15 years.
■ Through this Project we organise our whole school:
– We have different work teams: teachers, students, families, etc
– Each person has his own responsibility.
– We improve basic emotional tools among our schoolCommunity
– We have reduced different environmental problems
– We are more prepared to tackle with different environmental problems we will have in
the future.
11. Reducing school failure
■ This Project has been developed for more than 10 years in our school.
■ As an extracurricular activity, we have a teacher who helps students in order to
improve their basic skills and reducing their risk of school failure.
■ We choose students considering their personal background (family situation), their
interest and their develop of basic skills.
■ We have a huge success through this Project and we hope we will increase it for next
year, from the first two years to the whole Secondary Compulsory Education years.
■ This Project is funded by the Regional Department.
12. Performing arts Project: “Afonso a
escena”
■ Through this Project we try to involve our students to the school while they learn and
develop their artistic skills.
■ This Project is develop by the Regional Department.
■ This year we have a theatre group and a choir who are trained as a regular extracurricular
activity by teachers of the school.
■ Furthermore we are developing different workshops for our students: Body expression,
voice and singing, dance and composing soundtracks.
■ We made a workshop for the primary students and work straight ahead with music primary
teachers, so we soften the change from primary schools to our high school.
■ We are working with different performing arts associations located nearby, so we are trying
to make our students part of the possibilities of their área.
■ At the end of the school year, we will make different representations for the whole school
Community.
