This document provides ideas for hands-on Valentine's Day classroom decorations that students can help create, including a "Love is..." bulletin board where students define love, creating vintage letters for students to write Valentine's messages with, making picture frames for students to write why they love their families, and making a heart thumbprint banner out of lace doilies. It also briefly describes Becker's School Supplies, a company that provides educational materials and has several stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware.
2. Classroom Décor From the Heart
While it’s easy to buy pre-made Valentine’s Day
décor for your classroom, it’s just as simple – and
more meaningful – to create it.
Best of all, you can get your students to all play a
part in the project.
Here are a few hands-on ideas for decorations that
will fill your room with love.
3. “Love is …” Bulletin Board
Every child has a different
definition of love.
To some, it’s a family campout
in the backyard. To others, it’s a
sibling who gives up the last
chocolate-chip cookie.
Let your students define love
for themselves using the writing
prompt “Love is …”
4. Vintage Valentines
Consider creating vintage
upper case letters, and then
having your students write a
Valentine’s Day message that
begins with that same letter.

5. ‘You Are Loved’ Picture Frames
Valentine’s Day is a time of reminding
others not just that we love them, but
why we do.
Ask your students to write down the
reasons why they love their family.
Then, frame each paper with a heart
border. Hang the reasons up in your
classroom until Valentine’s Day, when
each child can take his or hers home to
mom and dad.
6. Heart Thumbprint Banner
Lace lends itself well to Valentine’s Day in the
classroom – and for a fun DIY bunt banner.
What You’ll Need:
• Large white lace doilies
• Washable red ink pads
• Twine
• Scissors
• Tape
Ask each child to leave a thumbprint heart on one
doily. Then, string the doilies together to form a
banner for your classroom wall.
