2. Who was in the room?
Insurer, DR companies, Builders, Builder network, Loss adjuster, IVP
3. BDMA Strategy
To be the accreditation body of choice
2300 member of which around half are insurers
4. Our task – to answer two questions
What stops us connecting the supply chain?
And then…
….how do we deliver better customer service for lower cost?
5. What stops us connecting the supply chain ?
Structure of supply chain
Across a typical EoW claim – multiple suppliers

6. Why is it as it is?
Traditional structure is historically procurement led
What are the issues with it ?
It often doesn’t achieve its objectives
low cost claims
Short claims
Happy customers
7. And what are the other limitations?
Beating down on prices, is finite
Low volumes – excess/ cash settlement
Competitive tension – lack of trust
Short term contracts – really 3 months – big, require lots of change
Process differs between high (5%): low (95%) value
High value claims – HNW/ major & complex can “afford” the extra attention – low
cannot
8. What stops us connecting the supply chain ?
Structure of supply chain
Across a typical EoW claim – multiple suppliers
Potential solutions :
Fewer suppliers
Better comms technology
Co-ordinating function

9. Fewer suppliers – purchase of joined up services
Could eliminate site visits/ PH days off work through technology – e.g. video that
is shared
But if all is sub-contracted, it may be of little value – all it moves is the invoice
address, or worse…
..you get generalists not experts
We need to really examine the process
10. Better comms technology
A shared platform – steal from elsewhere, don’t invent - motor?
Would enable the complicated current structure to work better
Potential to stop the customer being project manager
Does it fix a bad process?
11. Co-ordinating function
In some claims, insurers see value in paying for this
In low value, high volume claims 75+% ? – they don’t
So ownership needs to be given to someone – a contractor
12. And an important feature
If suppliers are to successfully join up, insurers need to think about how they will
collaborate

Observation - all white men of a certain age
Why is cash settlement cheaper for insurers ?
Low pricing but actually less customer churn than you think – less than motor
Everyone eating everyone’s lunch
Lower volumes
