9. Engaging Young Talent and Encouraging Participation with the
‘Next Generation Council’
Open to County residents ages 20 to 34
Encourages greater participation in government, identifies policy issues and priorities that
affect young adults across the county
Key Goals
Improve communication between county government and the young adult community of
Cuyahoga County.
Build coalitions with young adult organizations and governments to increase the influence
and effectiveness of young adults in civic issues.
Identify emerging public policy priorities.
Develop mechanisms to increase civic participation within county government.

10. Increasing Civic Engagement Among Local Residents:
Challenge Cuyahoga
Challenge Cuyahoga is a social innovation competition that surfaces and supports
’
innovative citizen-based projects to address challenges and opportunities related to
Cuyahoga County’s progress.
Winners will receive seed money for their projects through a combination of crowd-
sourced fundraising and institutional matching funds.
The Challenge’s partner, The Civic Commons is a civic engagement utility providing
community outreach, a social network and online tools to support civic action for the
improvement of Northeast Ohio. The Civic Commons receives support from the John S.
and James L. Knight Foundation and The Fund For Our Economic Future.

Searchable Databases of Information,
Codified Ordinances
Procurement Database: Purchase of goods or services searchable by purpose, vendor, purchaser,
dollar amount, funding source, department, transaction date, and other relevant factors.
Grants and Loans Database: Grants and loans received, searchable by purpose, funding source,
department, date of receipt, length of term, and other relevant factors;
Pending Transactions Database: Will show where the item is in the process (for example, County
Council 1st reading, 2nd reading, in committee, etc.) searchable by purpose, department, date of
initiation, funding source, and other relevant factors.
Special Procurement Events Database: Notification when contracts for goods or services that are
substantially different from goods or services that the county currently contracts for or has contracted
for within the last three (3) years
County Council Codified Ordinances Website: Codified ordinances will be listed in a fashion
similar to the Ohio Revised Code.
