1. Welcome to the
Great South Chapter #2505
Weekly 411 October 3rd 2010
The Fall Fling is scheduled for Oct.17th. This is a time for friends to gather and share
Tales, Tunes, and FOOD. We will have grills to cook your favorite meat (you bring your
own meat) and a casserole, salad or dessert large enough for your family and enough
to share. We will have music and “Lots of Fun”. Bring a non-perishable food item or
paper goods, cleaning supply, trash bags, or monetary support for Welcome House.
This is one of the charities we support as a Chapter. This is a refuge for women and
children in abusive relationships. Why don't they go to family members you ask? Well in
most cases the abuser causes so much trouble that family doesn't want you there in
their homes. This home gives these women a safe place for themselves and their
children. A place that allows them to be able to lay their heads down to sleep at night
and not have to worry about being awakened in the middle of the night by an angry
abuser in one of their rages,” A Safe House”. Let's share some of our good fortune with
these people. Let's pay it forward Please. We need extra grills for cooking, if you
would be so kind as to go to the trouble of bringing your gas grill please let me know in
advance. SEE YA"LL THERE
2. Each year we support the Angel House Project. For those of you who aren't familiar with
Angel House, this is an organization that collects toys for children whose parents are
incarcerated, and would not have any Christmas, if not for Angel House. We will have a
barrel at the front of Great South Harley from the 27th of Nov. thru Christmas. So if
you're like me and brave the after Thanksgiving Sales, Remember to buy an extra toy or
bicycle, wagon or clothes for a child for Christmas this year. Thank you!
Nov.20th, we will have one of our Great Pancake Breakfasts at the Hog Pen. Time is at
9:00am. Come out and enjoy a wonderful breakfast then take part in whatever ride for
the day and or stay for the LOH meeting at 11:00. If you would like to volunteer to help
Skeeter cook please let him know. This would be a great way to accumulate points
toward your Chrome Patch. If you have any Questions about your points contact Tim
Summers.
3. This year we are having a 1960's theme at our Christmas Party on Jan. 08th, 2011.
We're having the same DJ that promises lots of great 1960's tunes. If you have any
favorites please let me know by Dec., so Matt can have them with him at the party. The
ticket price will be the same as last year $10.00 each .We need to have an RSVP by
Dec. 15th so we will have a correct head count. This is very important, so we will have
enough food and drinks. If you would be interested in decorating a table for the Party,
contact Linda Smith.
Chapter Meeting
It‟s that time of the year when the monthly chapter meetings move to Saturday. The
next meeting will be held on Oct. 30 at 5pm. To kick off the Fall/Winter riding season,
the new meeting day and time we will be offering a Low Country Boil $10.00 per person.
The last time we did a LCB it was a delicious and great success so come out on
Saturday Oct 30th.
4. Grillers Needed
Fellow GS HOG members!! Come out and support Great South Harley by donating 3
hours of your time any Saturday to grill hot dogs and burgers. Get to know other HOG
member, recruit new ones to our chapter and talk bikes and rides (exaggerated truths
AKA lies are encouraged). Let Great South Harley know especially Gene and Kevin
that we appreciate how much they support the HOG chapter. I know we all enjoy our
GS HOG discounts and having use of the HOG Pen. This opportunity is available every
Saturday from noon to 3 PM. If you can spare a few hours on Saturday please contact
Tim Summers at activities@greatsouthhog.com and let him know you are willing to
help out. Your support is greatly appreciated!
Clarification on the Photographers Rocker Patch

For all members who are submitting photos for the website, please limit the number you
submit to your favorite 20 pictures. Those photos will be reviewed and the best will be
used on the website. Also, remember that all photos must be in the correct format,
800X600, or they cannot be accepted and will not be published. Thanks for your
consideration.
Thanks, Steve.
5. DINNER RIDE -- GSHD (C) – EVERY
THURSDAY, AT 6:30 PM
Meet at the Hog Pen to plan and decide on a dinner destination. These are usually very
easy and short rides to a local eatery. The camaraderie is great and it is a good time for
new members to meet others in the chapter. One of our chapter‟s most popular rides.
1-2 pigs
10/8 Friday Fall Leaf Ride RC Andy Andresen KSU
7:00am 4 pig
We leave GSHD at 7 am on Friday morning and go by the Atlanta H-D pavilion to join
with some old friends. It‟s northbound into the Appalachians, embarking on a scenic ride
of your life. This experience includes actually smelling and feeling the mountain air, free
of charge! Enjoy the fall colors in north GA and North Carolina on a 3-day ride through
some of the most beautiful mountains in the country. Mountains and valleys, forests and
glades, wild streams and lakes and peaceful ponds. Perhaps you‟ll spot an eagle or
hawk or bear or deer. Have you ever traveled the lesser known Wayah Road?
Dramamine optional…Just imagine the possibilities. Lunch we‟ll do at the River‟s Edge
in the Nantahala Gorge on day one. We‟ll explore the wonders of the Blue Ridge
Parkway on day two. Linville Viaduct, Linville Falls, Grandfather Mountain, the old
parkway and the new. Walk and eat in Blowing Rock and dip into the Linville Gorge
(North Carolina‟s Grand Canyon). The third day finds us snaking our path thru Chimney
Rock and Lake Lure before traversing the Foothills Parkway and homeward bound. This
is a 4 pig ride due to the saddle time, distance, twisties, and weather. (There‟s always
weather in them-thar-mountains) Due to many requests to leave the routing the same
as last year, I am pleased to do so unless the pre-ride presents a problem. If you wish
to sleep indoors for the two over-nights, 10 rooms at the Super 8 are blocked (they‟re
the only act in town that will put up with us noisy riff-raff). All are non-smoking rooms
6. with two double beds and probably on the rear second floor again like last year. The
rate is $67.45 plus tax. You may be able to upgrade to a king size bed on the first floor
rear for only $5 more if you reserve early. When calling to make your reservation, tell
them it is in the name of HOG CHAPTER, Register the room in your name and on your
credit card.
Call before Friday October 1st to reserve – after that all rooms blocked under HOG
CHAPTER will be cancelled. When the ten rooms are gone they may or may not have
more rooms available. Rates in other nearby motels are between $103 and $139 per
night.

Festival is a great way to celebrate the motorcycle and the motorcycle enthusiasm that
we all share. The festival offers access to motorcycles and the legends that made the
sport what it is today. Also available is the motorcycle parts swap meet that can help
you locate that part needed to get your latest project back on the road. Several special
programs take place in the museum during this event. Purchase tickets online @ $20
each for Saturday general admission. Meet at 8 AM at the HOG Pen for the pre-ride
briefing and immediate departure. Rain date is Sunday October 10, 2010.

7. 10/9 Sat New Member Orientation Activities Director Tim
Summers
Newcomers Orientation – Open to ALL GSHOG Members! We are proud to offer a
great way for new comers, and any interested „older‟ members to learn about Great
South Harley Davidson and Great South HOG! On the 2nd Saturday of every 3rd
month we will be hosting a New Member Orientation at the dealership. Meet other new
members and some who have been around the block a few times with GSHOG. We‟ll
kick off with Breakfast with a Tech – come share coffee and doughnuts and listen to a
Technician talk about care and maintenance of your favorite ride. After that we‟ll get a
tour through the dealership – parts, motor clothes – meet the great people at GSHD
eager to assist you in fulfilling your every motorcycle dream. Then upstairs to the
classroom for a down and dirty on group riding 101, discussion on how HOG runs,
figuring out the calendar, understanding the „pig‟ ride ratings, learning how to turn your
dream ride into a reality (tell your nearest Road Captain and offer to help plan) and
answer any questions you may have. No orientation would be complete without a ride.
So after learning about group riding, we‟ll head outside for a short and easy ride. Our
RCs (road captains for the uninitiated) have promised to share at least one of their rides
around the area that will keep it fun and fresh. We‟ll either find food on the ride, or head
back to the dealership for grilled burgers and dogs. Ride rating 1-2 pigs. And after you
have been through the orientation once, feel free to come by for any part of it in the
future. It‟s a great chance to meet new members, welcome them into the group, and go
on a ride.
