“Survival more than 24 hours after submersion in the liquid
from suffocation.”
3. DEFINITION
“It is defined as the process of experiencing respiratory
impairment from the submersion or immersion in the
liquid”.

4. CLASSIFICATION /TYPES
1. DRY DROWNING:
Drowning where the water didn't enter into larynx .
2. WET DROWNING:
Drowning where water enter into the larynx goes into spasm.
5. RISK FACTORS FOR DROWNING.
• Poor swimming skill
• Heavy Exhaustion
• Extreme Panic
• Severe trauma
• Hypothermia
• Seizure
• Alcoholic or over use of drugs
6. SIGN AND SYMPTOM OF NEAR DROWNING
• Abdominal distension
• Chest pain
• Bluish colouration of
skin on extremities and
face.
• Cold and calm skin.
• Irritability/Restless
• Lethargic
• No breathing in severe
• Breathing difficulty
• Unconsciousness
7. FIRST AID MEASURE FOR DROWNING:
1. SCENE SAFETY.
• Make sure the
is safe for the victim and
rescuer.
8. 2. RESCUE THE VICTIM TO LAND.
• Call - Call the nearby person for help.
• Reach - Try to reach the victim
• Throw and Tow - Throw-rope, life rings,
floating devices etc. to the victim.
• Row -Row the victim if possible.
• GO - Go yourself to rescue the victim if
possible.
Thus, victims can rescue to surfaces.

3. POSITION
• Position the victim on their back
first. ( Supine )

SYSTEM
• Inform the medical emergency unit
through phone.

Observe it carefully.
Warm the victim by covering with
blanket.
Provide recovery position.
Shift to hospital.

and unresponsive with no
breathing and pulse.
Start CPR
Reassess the condition every 2
minutes.
