FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q. Do I need to recharge aerosol generators?
A. No. AEROSOL generators are not rechargeable. These are meant for one time use only. The
extinguishing agent loaded in the generator is in solid form and there is no pressure in it, like
other conventional fire extinguishers.
Q. Does it cause any health problems/hazards to personnel?
A. No, AEROSOL generators are safe and do not cause any health problems. It consists of solid gas
combustion products. Components of AEROSOL are not toxic at normal levels. But exposure of
personnel in a closed room for a long period of time should be avoided.
Q. Is it costly comparing to existing fire fighting equipment/systems?
A. Economic analyzes show that the systems built with AEROSOL GENERATORS are much
cheaper compared to the cost of existing fire fighting systems, because piping, nozzles and
water tank etc, are not required.
Q. What is the maintenance cost?
A. The maintenance cost is very less compared to other systems. These systems need regular
visual examination to rule out damages. The fire detection and control systems and also
electrical circuit needs regular check up to ensure proper electric connectivity.
Q. Does it reduce oxygen level and cause damage to the environment?
A. Not at all. It does not reduce oxygen level, hence environment friendly. It does not contain any
banned substances which cause ozone depletion or global warming.
Q. Does it cause damage to sensitive equipment?
A. No, it does not cause any damage to sensitive equipment. The AEROSOLE has been tested world
over. The ultra fine particles suspend in the air within the protected enclosure. Some amount of
particles may get deposited on the equipments. These particles are not harmful but these needs to
be blown out with the help of fan or air handling system for a clean environment.
5. Q. How does AEROSOL generator extinguish fire?
A. AERSOL generators extinguish fire by chemical interaction of potassium compounds with the free
radicals of fire (Hydrogen, Oxygen and Hydroxide) which fuel growth of fire. Aerosol contains ultra-
fine (1-2 micron) particles of potassium compounds. In the fire zone, the radicals of potassium bind
with the free radicals of fire, rapidly slow and extinguishes the fire. Aerosol is 10 times more effective
than the systems available in the market at present.
Q. Does the AEROSOL affect the men trapped inside the protected area?
A. No. It may cause minor irritation, which is temporary and harmless. If trapped in the affected
area, stay calm, find a safe place, cover mouth and nose with a towel or hand kerchief and breath
normally. Aerosol is not poisonous, it does not explode and also it does not deplete oxygen in the
room.
Q. Where all AEROSOL can be used?
A. It can be used indoors, viz, ware-houses, offices, hotels, garages, shops, apartments, houses,
basements, tunnels, control rooms, electric switch rooms, server rooms, car engines, buses, trains,
airplanes, ships, yachts, etc.

7. VARIOUS MEDIA OF FIRE PROTECTION
ALTERNATIVES FOR HALON FLOODING AND LOCAL APPLICATION SYSTEMS
TRADITIONAL FIRE PROTECTION AGENTS. Non-Halon fire protection materials such as dry
chemical, CO2, water sprinklers, and foams to protect special hazards has been promoted as a
means of replacing Halon use. The effectiveness of these traditional protection alternatives is
dependent on the occupancy they are selected and designed to protect. The use of these
traditional technologies should be given serious consideration as appropriate Halon replacements
in occupancies where they are agreeable with the hazard. They also should be properly installed
in accordance with applicable standards.
Examples of traditional fire protection agents are as under:-
• Dry chemical
• CO2
• Water sprinklers
• Foams
INERT GASES. Inert gases are designed to reduce the ambient oxygen concentration in a protected
space to between 10-14% by utilizing a concentration of 35-40% by volume, a level that is
breathable but will not support flaming combustion. These systems use inert gases such as argon,
nitrogen, CO2 or a blend. These are applied in total flooding systems. Inert gases are electrically
non-conductive, clean agents however due to excessive discharge times these are not
recommended for areas where a rapidly developing fire can be expected. Due to the necessary
concentrations, inert gases normally require a large tank storage area. It should be noted that fire-
extinguishing CO2, a by-product of other manufacturing processes, is not seen as adding
to the greenhouse phenomenon.s
Advantages of inert gases
• All inert gases are electrically non-conductive.
• All are clean agents and leave no residue.
Stops combustion at a breathable level.
WATER MISTS. Water mist systems extinguish fires using small amounts of water released as tiny
droplets, under low, medium or high pressure. The methods of extinguishment include cooling,
oxygen dilution by steam expansion, the wetting of surfaces and turbulence effects. These systems
use specially designed nozzles to produce much smaller droplets than that are produced by
regular standard spray sprinkler systems. The smaller droplets are more effective at extinguishing
fires; therefore, less water is needed. There are two types of water mist suppression systems,
single and dual fluid systems. Both systems have been shown to be effective. In addition, when
properly installed, they can effectively penetrate where deep-seated fires might develop. As a result,
damage to water-sensitive equipment is minimized.
Advantages of water mist systems:-
• Smaller droplets are more effective at extinguishing fires.
• Less water is needed than standard spray systems.
• Can effectively penetrate to deep-seated fires.
• Damage to water-sensitive equipment is minimized.
8. AEROSOL GENERATOR SYSTEM. A category of new technology being developed and introduced are
those related to fine solid particulate and aerosols. The different types of powdered aerosol
systems include pyrotechnically generated aerosols and dry chemical halocarbon mixtures. Another
unique category of fine particulate technology is gelled halocarbon/dry chemical suspensions. The
effectiveness and the quality of the different types of powder can differ dramatically and must be
closely monitored.
Advantages of powdered aerosol:-
• Very high effectiveness/weight ratio.
• No environmental concerns beyond those of the carrier gases.
Fixed condensed aerosol fire extinguishing systems are used in normally unoccupied spaces as a
total flooding fire suppression system for Class A (surface), Class B and Class C fires, to protect
specific materials (especially hazardous materials) housed in fixed enclosures. The systems are
considered alternatives to the Halon fire-extinguishing systems. The fixed condensed aerosol fire-
extinguishing systems are total flooding systems that consist of a condensed aerosol generator and
an actuating mechanism. The systems do not require a piping distribution system.

10. COMPARISON BETWEEN AEROSOL (Dry Sprinkler) AND SPRINKLER (wet)
Advantage of AEROSOL Generator System Draw-back of sprinkler system
When you compare commercial comparison for
sprinkler and AGS that is Sprinkler exclusive of raiser
and pump the cost difference would be 5: 1
ratio.
Water media provides cooling effect whereby bring
down the temperature to put off the fire. Carbon
material / documents can be damaged by water.
When you compare commercial comparison for FM
200 and AGS. AGS is 40% lesser than FM flooding
system. There will not be any damage. Efficiency of
killing fire is much higher than water media.
Water required for 4 No. of sprinkler will be - 6480
litres. There will also be wastage of water which
cannot be controlled. If the sprinkler will be allowed
to operate for 30 minutes it will consume -200000
ltrs of water approximately.
Powder media will prevent the chemical reaction of
fire exist and no re-ignition.
Property / Document Damage.
Life of AGS is minimum 15 years and this system is
connected with detection and fire will be put off an
early stage.
Whereas for sprinkler system to operate it takes 57
to 68 degree C to reach the sprinkler spot, which
means there will be delay in function and there can
be enough damage before it operates.
Discharge in a matter of few seconds. The
discharge consist of powder mixed gas at the ratio
of 70:30. And does not leave any residue, no
corrosion, electronic equipment will not be spoiled.
Water Media is not recommended for server and
battery rooms.
Though AGS is initially expensive it is more effective
with less maintenance.
Execution is Difficult at existing Building and
expensive when including of complete pump house.
