What is Employee Engagement?  There is no one acceptable definition of employee engagement.  There are many contributors to the existence and improvement of the construct of employee engagement.  Employee engagement was referred to in some management text as employee satisfaction, employee happiness, morale, employee experience, etc.  Holistically, they all have one big root - employee retention.   5. 5. Employee Engagement Defined. "An employee's involvement with, commitment to, and satisfaction with work. Employee engagement is a part of employee retention." This definition integrates the classic constructs of job satisfaction (Smith et al. 1969) Employee engagement is the strength of the mental and emotional connection employees feel toward the work they do, their teams, and their organization. (Ryba, 2021). Employee engagement is the level of mental and emotional commitment an employee has towards their job, the organization, and its goals (Valamis, 2020).
