• Under the leadership of Daniel Farber, Bright Lights USA has been an
industry leader in mechanical component manufacturing for the United
States military. As a way to give back, Bright Lights USA is involved with
many charitable organizations, such as the ALS Association, offering
support for its ongoing efforts to fight amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
The ALS Association recently issued a statement in support of the Food and
Drug Administration’s (FDA) approval of Radicava for the treatment of ALS
in the United States. This marks the first time in more than two decades
that a drug has been approved to specifically treat the disease. Before
Radicava, the only drug option ALS patients had was riluzole, which the
FDA approved in 1995.
Radicava was developed by Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma and was first used
as a stroke treatment drug. Two years ago, however, Japan and South Korea
both formally approved the use of the drug as an option for ALS patients as
well. Early testing shows that the drug can reduce the physical toll that ALS
takes on the body by nearly a third, according to Mitsubishi Tanabe
Pharma.
