School Nickname
“Bronchos” was the nickname selected for Central Oklahoma
in 1922 by Mrs. C.W. Wantland, wife of long-time UCO football
coach C.W. Wantland. The name was chosen from a number of
suggestions for the name of UCO’s football team and became the
nickname for all athletic teams at the school.
Mrs.Wantland was made an honorary member of the Letterman’s
Clubasaresultofselectingthenickname,becomingthefirstwoman
admitted to that organization.
School Colors
BronzeandbluewerechosenasCentralOklahoma’sschoolcolors
early in the fall of 1895 by school president Edmund Dandridge
Murdaugh. The first public display of the bronze and blue was
in Guthrie when a student represented UCO in the first oratorical
contest ever held in Oklahoma.

Head Coach
Guy Hardaker
In his 10th year at the controls of the
Central Oklahoma program is Guy Har-
daker, who has turned the Bronchos into
a perennial NCAA Division II national
tournament contender.
A member of the UCO Athletic Hall
of Fame, Hardaker took over the helm
in 2006 after a highly-successful stint as
boys high school basketball coach and is
164-101 in nine years with the Bronchos.
He’s led UCO to its only four Divi-
sion II national tournament appearances -- including a pair of Sweet
16 berths -- and the Bronchos won 20-plus games a school-record four
consecutive seasons from 2007-11.
Guy guided Central to two titles and three runner-up finishes in the
Lone Star Conference North Division the last five years the Bronchos
were in the league and he’s had 12 players earn all-conference honors,
including two Player of the Year selections.
UCO finished a surprising 15-13 and was LSC North Division runner-
up in Hardaker’s first year in 2006-07 and really took off the next season.
The Bronchos gained a share of their first-ever LSC North Division
title in 2007-08 and made it to the LSC Tournament finals for the first
time since 1993 while also earning their first-ever Division II national
tournament berth.
UCO pulled out a thrilling overtime victory in the first round of the
South Central Regional before losing to eventual champion Washburn
to finish 24-8, the second-most wins in school history.
The Bronchos did even better in 2008-09, winning the outright LSC
North Division crown and making it back to the LSC Tournament finals
in again qualifying for the national tournament as Hardaker was named
LSC North Coach of the Year.
UCO had two hard-earned wins at the South Central Regional to make
the Sweet 16 for the first time ever before falling in the finals to host
West Texas A&M and finishing a
best-ever 27-6.
Hardaker and the Bronchos
came back with a 22-8 campaign
in 2009-10, finishing runner-up
in the LSC North and making a
third straight national tournament
appearance before losing in the
first round.
Guy got UCO back in the na-
tional tournament in 2010-11
with a team that lost six players
to season-ending injury, using a
stirring post-season run to advance
to the Sweet 16 en route to a 22-
10 finish.
The Bronchos were once again LSC North Division runners-up,
pulled off an overtime upset in making the LSCTournament finals before
losing a one-point heartbreaker there and then knocked off two higher
seeds in advancing to the South Central Regional finals.
Central competed as a Division II independent in 2011-12 and went
16-10 despite playing one of the toughest schedules in school history
and then moved into the rugged Mid-America Intercollegiate Athlet-
ics Association the next season, going 9-17 while plagued by injuries.
The Bronchos improved to 12-16 in 2013-14 with five losses by six
points or less and then jumped to 17-13 last season, winning a first-
round game in the conference tournament for the second straight year.
Guy started his coaching career at Edmond Memorial High School,
serving as head girls golf coach and assistant boys basketball coach
from 1987-93.
He led the Lady Bulldogs to two state championships and one runner-
up finish in golf while helping the boys basketball team to three Class
6A state tournament appearances, capped by a state title in 1993.
Hardaker moved over to Edmond Santa Fe High School in 1993 and
coached the boys basketball and golf programs there until coming to
UCO.
He led the SFHS basketball squad to four straight regional titles and
the Wolves qualified for the state tournament his last three years at the
helm, capturing the Class 6A state title in 2004-05. He finished with
a 173-148 record.
Guy was a three-year baseball star at UCO from 1982-84, leading the
Bronchos to a 101-49 record in that span before leaving following his
junior year after getting drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies.
A two-time All-
District 9 and NAIA
All-Area pick, Har-
daker was taken in
the 10th round by
the Phillies in 1983
and spent two years
playing in the minor
leagues, reaching as
high as the Triple A
level.
He was inducted
into the UCOAthletic
Hall of Fame in 2006.
Guy, who received
both his bachelor’s
and master’s degrees
from UCO, is married
(Tammy) and has two
children (Chance and
Tate).

Heather Davis
In her second year as Central Oklahoma’s assistant coach is Heather Davis, a former player for the Bronchos who
spent two seasons as a graduate assistant coach before stepping into into a full-time role.

Kylie Mayes
Serving as Central Oklahoma’s student assistant coach in 2015-16 is Kylie Mayes, who ended her playing career
with the Bronchos last season.
Mayes started her college career at UCO in 2010-11, averaging 6.2 points and 4.1 rebounds a game as a part-time
starter in helping the Bronchos reach the Division II Sweet 16. She transferred to St. Gregory’s the next season,
averaging 12.5 points and 5.6 rebounds a contest in earning second-team All-Southern Athletic Conference honors.
Kylie redshirted the next year at St. Gregory’s and then sat ou the 2012-13 season after transferred back to UCO.
She started 28 of 30 games for the Bronchos last season, picking up honorable mention All-MIAA recognition after
averaging 10.4 points and 4.3 rebounds a game.
Mayes, a four-time All-Conference selection and All-State performer at Carl Albert High School in Midwest City,
is finishing up work on her psychology degree.

n experienced group of returners looks to team
with a talented batch of newcomers and make
Central Oklahoma a top contender for the Mid-
America IntercollegiateAthleticsAssociation title
in 2015-16.
The Bronchos return seven players from last year’s 17-
13 team and added several freshmen and transfers who are
expected to have an immediate impact.
“We have a nice balance of new, young players and
older, more experienced ones,” said 10th-year head coach
Guy Hardaker. “There will be a lot of competition for
playing time and that will just make everybody better.
“Each year in the MIAA we have moved up the confer-
ence standings and our goal is to keep climbing.
Hopefully we can continue that and get in the
conference tournament as a top four team.
If we can do that, we’ll have a chance to
get into the national tournament.
UCO is led by a trio of
returning full-time start-
ers -- seniors Julia Ma-
son and Jordan Ward
and junior Olivia Ma-
son -- and senior Haley
Weathers, who started
the first 11 games last
year before going out with a
season-ending injury.
J. Mason was a third-
team All-MIAA selection
last year after averaging
10.4 points and 4.5 re-
bounds a game. She’s still
getting back to full strength
after suffering a knee injury
in the conference tournament last year, but fea-
tures a potent all-around game that makes her one of the
league’s best players.
O. Mason averaged 9.3 points and a team-high 5.4
rebounds a contest last season while also topping the
Bronchos in 3-pointers (46). She’s a two-time honorable
mention All-MIAA selection and is ready to become even
more of a force this winter.
Ward is a vital team leader and the glue to the offensive
attack, though a pre-season injury may keep her out of the
lineup early. She averaged 4.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and
2.7 assists a game a year ago.
Weathers was the team’s leading scorer through 11
games last year with an 11.3 average before going down
with a knee injury. She’s one of the league’s top long-range
A
Season Outlook
shooting threats and her return to form is key to UCO’s
success.
Three other letterwinners return from last year in senior
McKenzie Solberg and juniors Marley Anderson and
Ashley Stephens
Solberg provides instant offense for the Bronchos with
her ability to score both inside and out. She averaged 7.8
points and 3.3 rebounds a game last season while making
four starts and erupted for 26 points
in a first-round MIAA Tournament
win over Nebraska-Kearney after
J. Mason went out with injury.
Anderson gives UCO another
steady performer at guard and is
a fine passer who can also score.
She netted 5.2 points and 2.3 re-
bounds an outing last year while
playing in every game with
three starts.
Stephens is the team’s
tallest player at 6-foot-3
and will vie for more play-
ing time after seeing lim-
ited action in 2014-15.
The Bronchos also
have back redshirt fresh-
man Savannah Gray,
while senior Hayley
Bryan is a three-year
letterwinner who will redshirt this season.
Nine newcomers join the roster -- fresh-
men Blake Blessington, Lauren Godbold, Tierra
Jones, Madison Lee, Sadie Mason, Taylor O’Dell
and Bailey Taylor, redshirt freshman Alaisha
Castleberry and sophomore Megan Womack
-- and several of those will see immediate action.
Womack is a Division I transfer from North Texas who
will battle for a starting berth inside, while Blessington,
Lee, Mason, Taylor and Castleberry are all expected to see
plenty of playing time. Godbold, Jones and O’Dell are
scheduled to redshirt.
“The strength of our team is their competitive spirit,”
said Hardaker, who has a 164-101 record with the Bronchos.
“Our overall toughness in this grueling conference is the
key because you can’t take a night off.
“I also think this team has a chance to play a full-court
game, both defensively and offensively. We should be
able to press some teams and we have a lot of different
offensive weapons.
“We’re excited about what we can accomplish this year.”

2014-15 Season Review
It was the second straight win for the Bronchos, who ran an aggressive zone
defense that frustrated the Bulldogs all night. SWOSU fired up 40 3-pointers in
the contest, making only nine, and scored just 37 points in the first 32 minutes.
Mayes was unstoppable in the first half in making all eight shot attempts and
scored 12 straight points during one stretch. The 6-foot-2 senior finished 9-of-11
from the field while adding seven rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal.
Hayley Bryan was almost as effective inside, making 6-of-10 shots and 3-of-4
free throws in a career-best 16-point outing to go along with seven rebounds.
UCO 92, Arkansas-Fort Smith 65
EDMOND (Nov. 29) -- Chelsea Robinson put on a dazzling all-around
performance and Central Oklahoma overcame a slow start to overwhelm
Arkansas-Fort Smith 92-65.

15 points and 11 assists -- all career highs -- while adding a steal and blocked
shot in a remarkable 25-minute outing off the bench as the Bronchos overcame
an eight-point first-half deficit to claim their third straight win.
The senior guard’s dominating show overshadowed a career-high 24-point
game by sharp-shooter Haley Weathers, who made 8-of-10 shots with four
3-pointers.

UCO 76, Lindenwood 47
EDMOND (Dec. 4) -- Marley Anderson scored nine of her career-high
17 points during a six-minute first-half stretch that put Central Oklahoma in

points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots and Hayley Bryan had a game-
high nine rebounds with four points.
UCO 93, Lincoln 66

scoring run that put Central Oklahoma in command and the Bronchos used
another balanced attack to smother Lincoln 93-66.
It was the sixth straight win for UCO, which attacked the basket at will in
making 21 layups – including five in a row during one stretch – and shot a
season-high 54.7 percent from the field in improving to 8-2 overall and 2-0 in
Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play.
Haley Weathers and McKenzie Solberg scored 14 points apiece to pace
UCO, with Solberg hitting 4-of-5 shots from beyond the 3-point arc. Chelsea
Robinson had 12 points and seven rebounds, while Kylie Mayes and Olivia
Mason had 11 points apiece.
Central Missouri 63, UCO 58
WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Dec. 18) -- Asix-minute dry spell turned a double-
digit lead into a tie and Central Oklahoma ended up dropping a disappointing
63-58 decision to defending Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association
champion Central Missouri.

sixth in the rugged Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.
The Bronchos were 2-2 four games into the season before winning 11 of their next 12 to get to 13-3 overall and 6-1 in the league. UCO struggled
down the stretch with some key injuries, but won a first-round game in the MIAAPost-season Tournament before being eliminated in the quarterfinals.

in the final 5:33 to keep Central Oklahoma in front as the Bronchos turned back
intrastate rival East Central 60-51.

seconds gave the Bronchos their final nine-point cushion.
Chelsea Robinson chipped in nine points and seven rebounds, with O.
Mason adding nine points, five boards and two blocks for the Bronchos, who
outrebounded ECU 43-31 to make up for 37.8-percent shooting from the field.

Fort Hays State 60, UCO 52
HAYS, Kan. (Jan. 15) -- Fort Hays State closed the game with a 9-2 run over
the final four minutes to stave off Central Oklahoma 60-52.
The Bronchos were forced to battle from behind all night after falling into a
13-point hole nine minutes into the game and UCO took a series of slim leads
in the final 12 minutes before the Tigers prevailed with their late surge. The
Bronchos had a five-game winning streak snapped in falling to 13-4 and 6-2.
Kylie Mayes was the lone scorer in double figures for UCO as the senior
forward hit 8-of-18 shots and 3-of-4 free throws in a 20-point outing while
adding five rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots before fouling out
late in the game.
Nebraska-Kearney 65, UCO 62
KEARNEY, Neb. (Jan. 17) -- Aspirited late-game rally fell short for Central
Oklahoma as the Bronchos dropped a tough 65-62 decision to Nebraska-Kearney.
UCO never led, but overcame an 11-point second-half deficit to pull even at
62-all with 41 seconds left. The Lopers broke that deadlock with a 3-pointer at
0:20 and Julia Mason’s tying trey at the buzzer was off the mark.
Olivia Mason led the Bronchos with 15 points and five rebounds as the only
player in double figures. J. Mason and Kylie Mayes had eight points apiece,
while McKenzie Solberg added seven points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Washburn 55, UCO 50
EDMOND (Jan. 22) -- There appeared to be a lid on the basket every time
Central Oklahoma put up a shot against Washburn, whether it was long-range
attempt or a point-blank layup.
The Bronchos missed their first 22 tries from 3-point territory, made only
1-of-27 shots during one 16-minute stretch and ended up shooting a dismal -- not
to mention season-low -- 24.2 percent (16-of-66) overall in dropping a 55-50
Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association decision to the Ichabods.
Kylie Mayes led UCO with 15 points and six rebounds, hitting 5-of-11 shots
as the only Broncho to shoot better than 35 percent from the field. Olivia Ma-
son had 10 points, eight rebounds and four steals, with Julia Mason chipping
in eight points.
Emporia State 63, UCO 53
EDMOND (Jan. 24) -- Another poor shooting game sidetracked Central
Oklahoma’s gallant upset bid as the Bronchos fell to No. 2-ranked Emporia
State 63-53.
It was UCO’s fourth straight loss, dropping the Bronchos to 13-7 on the season
and 6-5 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play.
UCO made just 17-of-56 shots (30.4 percent), including only 1-of-13 attempts
from 3-point range. The Bronchos still nearly pulled off the upset, using a 13-2
second-half run to turn a 37-27 deficit into a 42-39 advantage, but the Hornets
regained the lead and pulled away late.
Kylie Mayes led the way with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Marley
Anderson supplied 10 points, four rebounds and two steals off the bench.
Pittsburg State 85, UCO 55
PITTSBURG, Kan. (Jan. 29) -- Central Oklahoma’s shooting woes contin-
ued in an 85-55 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association loss to No.
9-ranked Pittsburg State.
The Bronchos shot just 33.3 percent (21-of-63) from the field and made only
1-of-17 attempts (5.9 percent) from 3-point range while also getting outrebounded
49-33 in dropping their fifth straight game.
Chelsea Robinson had 13 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists
to lead UCO. Marley Anderson and Julia Mason added 11 points apiece, but
Kylie Mayes and Olivia Mason -- the team’s two leading scorers -- were held
to a combined five points.
UCO 62, Northeastern State 47
EDMOND (Feb. 5) -- Chelsi Dennis drained a pair of long-range shots
to help break the game open and Central Oklahoma finally found its shooting
touch in a much-needed 62-47 triumph over intrastate rival Northeastern State.
UCO made 6-of-11 shots (54.5 percent) from beyond the arc while shooting a
sizzling 65.2 percent (15-of-23) overall in the final 20 minutes and the Bronchos
really got it going in the last 8:23 in snapping a five-game losing streak.
Chelsea Robinson led the way with 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the
field while adding seven assists, four rebounds and two steals. Olivia Mason
had 14 points and six boards as the only other player in double figures.
Pittsburg State 68, UCO 51
EDMOND (Feb. 7) -- A long dry spell to end the first half and begin the
second put Central Oklahoma in a big hole and the Bronchos never recovered
in falling to No. 10-ranked Pittsburg State 68-51.
UCO was within one at 21-20 with 2:54 left in the first half after a short jumper
by Chelsea Robinson, but the Gorillas went on an 18-2 run over the next seven
minutes to push their lead to 19.
The Bronchos never got closer than 14 the rest of the way and lost for the
second time in 10 days to PSU. UCO fell to 14-9 on the season and 7-7 in Mid-
America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play
Jordan Ward led UCO with a career-high 15 points, making 5-of-7 shots with
two treys. Julia Mason added 12 points as the only other player in double figures.

UCO 75, Washburn 64
TOPEKA, Kan. (Feb. 12) -- Hayley Bryan scored five points during a
16-second span eight minutes into the game to put Central Oklahoma in front and
the Bronchos went on to a crucial 75-64 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics
Association triumph over Washburn.
The Bronchos shot 52.7 percent (29-of-55) from the field and committed just
eight turnovers while holding WU to 35.5 percent shooting in improving to 15-9
overall and 8-7 in the conference.
Julia Mason had 15 points to lead UCO’s balanced attack that saw four players
score in double figures. Chelsea Robinson and Kylie Mayes added 13 points
apiece while combining to make 11-of-14 shots with three 3-pointers and Olivia
Mason chipped in 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds.
Emporia State 80, UCO 67
EMPORIA, Kan. (Feb. 14) -- Central Oklahoma’s spirited second-half rally
fell short and No.9-ranked Emporia State pulled away at the free throw line down
the stretch to beat the Bronchos 80-67.
The Bronchos fell to 15-10 on the season and 8-8 in Mid-America Intercol-
legiate Athletics Association play in the physical contest that saw the teams
combine for 46 fouls and 58 free throws.
Julia Mason led UCO with 14 points and two blocked shots, while Kylie
Mayes added 13 points. Olivia Mason had 11 points, a team-high seven rebounds
and four assists, with Chelsea Robinson chipping in nine points, six rebounds,
three assists and two steals.
Northeastern State 62, UCO 54
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (Feb. 21) -- Central Oklahoma nearly overcame a
rough shooting outing, but came up short in a 62-54 Mid-America Intercollegiate
Athletics Association loss to Northeastern State.
The Bronchos were without leading 3-point shooter Olivia Mason -- who
suffered a concussion during practice earlier in the week -- and made just 2-of-
21 attempts (9.5 percent) from beyond the arc while shooting just 29.8 percent
(17-of-57) overall.
Julia Mason led the Bronchos with 23 points, nine rebounds and three blocked
shots, hitting 7-of-13 shots and 8-of-10 free throws. Chelsea Robinson was
the only other player in double figures with 13 points while adding six rebounds
and three steals.
Fort Hays State 56, UCO 55
EDMOND (Feb. 26) -- Missed opportunities down the stretch prevented
Central Oklahoma from pulling off a monumental upset as the Bronchos fell to
No. 4-ranked Fort Hays State 56-55.
Neither team scored in the last 2:26 after Julia Mason’s layup made it 56-55,
with UCO missing three free throws and making two turnovers the rest of the way.
J. Mason led the Bronchos with 17 points, while Chelsea Robinson had 12
points and nine rebounds. UCO had only eight turnovers, but shot just 60.9
percent (14-of-23) from the line and 29.8 percent (17-of-57) from the field.
UCO 79, Nebraska-Kearney 58
EDMOND (Feb. 28) -- Julia Mason and Chelsea Robinson scored 17 points
apiece and keyed a first-half surge that gave Central Oklahoma a lead it would
never relinquish in a 79-58 romp over Nebraska-Kearney.
The Bronchos improved to 16-12 in the regular season finale and tied for
sixth in the Mid-America IntercollegiateAthleticsAssociation standings at 9-10.
J. Mason was 6-of-10 from the field and 5-of-6 from the line, while Robinson
made 6-of-9 shots and 4-of-5 foul shots in their 17-point outings.
UCO 90, Nebraska-Kearney 70
EDMOND (March 3) – When Julia Mason went down, McKenzie Solberg
stepped up and kept Central Oklahoma’s season alive in the first round of the
Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Post-season Tournament.
The Bronchos lost leading scorer Mason to a knee injury seven minutes
into the game while trailing 15-11, but Solberg scored all of her career-high
26 points the rest of the way as UCO caught and then eventually cruised past
Nebraska-Kearney 90-70.
Solberg had plenty of help, but the junior guard was clearly the catalyst in the
big win that pushed the Bronchos into the quarterfinals, hitting 10-of-13 shots
with a pair of 3-pointers and 4-of-5 free throws in scoring 18 points more than her
season average. She added three rebounds and one steal in 29 minutes of action.
Kylie Mayes was virtually unstoppable for the Bronchos, making all seven
field goal tries – including just her fourth trey of the season – and 4-of-5 foul
shots in a 19-point outing.
Marley Anderson added 15 points and three assists, Jordan Ward chipped
in nine points and five assists and Olivia Mason had a game-high nine rebounds
and four assists.
UCO shot a season-best 57.4 percent from the field (35-of-61) in improving
to 17-12.
Pittsburg State 78, UCO 71
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (March 6) – A promising start turned sour late in the
first half and Central Oklahoma had its season ended in the quarterfinals of the
Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Post-season Tournament.
Kylie Mayes dominated early as the Bronchos zipped to a 24-9 lead over
Pittsburg State only to see the No. 13-ranked Gorillas surge in front by halftime
en route to a 78-71 victory at Municipal Auditorium.
UCO trailed by as many as 19 in the second half before staging a late rally to
get within six in the final minute, but Pitt State held on for its third win of the
season over the Bronchos, who ended 17-13.
Mayes was virtually unstoppable in staking UCO to its early 15-point advan-
tage before missing the last nine minutes of the half with foul trouble and PSU
took advantage in seizing a 38-35 lead at the break.
Mayes finished with a career-high 22 points in her final game, making 8-of-13
shots and all six foul shots in addition to pulling down six rebounds. Marley
Anderson added 12 points off the bench, while Olivia Mason had 12 points
and a team-high seven rebounds.
