Abstract
CA OPS/MVS has a variety of built-in integrations with mission essential
applications, including CA SYSVIEW, CA Workload Automation, BCPii, and
Security. This session will provide a deep dive on how each of these
integrations work and can be leveraged to maximize your CA OPS/MVS
investment and increase your business agility.

LIST
§ Returns a list of MSF nodes that are currently configured on the issuing CA Automation Point workstation.

§ Sends a z/OS system command execution request to the CA OPS/MVS host.

§ Run any TSO command processor, OPS/REXX program, or TSO/E REXX program

Use Cases
CA OPS/MVS Monitoring Using the console interface, CA Automation Point’s rules can trigger an automated restart when CA
OPS/MVS issues an Abend or “Emergency Product Shutdown” message. Additionally, Notification
Manager can be leveraged to alert support staff of the outage allowing for any manual triage to occur.
Incident Notification and
Centralization
Incidents can be directed to CA Automation Point rules (Consoles or MSF Links) allowing for a
centralized location where they can be managed or distributed from using Notification Manager,
Merged Message Window, or the various external communication methods.
Multiplatform
Automation
CA Automation Point can be used to automate Mainframe, UNIX, Linux, Windows, AS/400, Tandem,
and VAX environments via scripts, remote logons, and consoles allowing for automated process to be
passed between multiple platforms within a single process.
HMC Configuration
Access
CA Automation Point allows for monitoring of HMC messages, and HMC configuration changes
external to the Mainframe thus allowing this action to be taken regardless of system status.
Automated IPLs CA Automation Point and CA OPS/MVS System State Manager working in conjunction can fully
implement a one button IPL process. Due to CA Automation Point running off-platform this process
can be implemented to perform sysplex IPLs, rolling IPLs, and Shutdown in Primary Data Center with
Restart in Secondary Data Center IPLs.

CA OPS/MVS Address SYSVIEWE Host Environment
The ADDRESS SYSVIEWE host environment sends commands directly to CA SYSVIEW and returns output from those commands
directly to the OPS/REXX external data queue.
Any SYSVIEW command can be issued with the resulting output returned to REXX external data queue

Use Cases
Automated Remediation Having CA SYSVIEW generate CA OPS/MVS API events based on performance metrics allows for
these issues to be corrected via CA OPS/MVS Scripts, additional data obtained, or escalated.
Incident Correlation CA OPS/MVS can coordinate responses to multiple API events and/or collect additional information
via SYSVIEW host environment before taking action allowing for better understanding of the issue.
Incident Thresholding CA OPS/MVS can use it OPSTHRSH() function to allow for performance incidents to be throttled
requiring the event to occur multiple times without a predefined timeframe.

CA OPS/MVS uses the SYSVIEWE Host Environment through it’s Time-Of-Day processing to gather CA
SYSVIEW data from commands that do not have Thresholds defined or when the thresholding
possible doesn’t have the fine level of detail required.

Sends an API event to CA OPS/MVS for rules processing via API

§ RULESUF keyword can be specified to replace the rightmost four
alphanumeric characters
Coded at the application level, job level, or both. The
application-level message is sent whenever the application is
invoked. The job-level message is sent whenever the job runs.
If you code SEND2OPS at both levels, both messages are sent
(assuming the job is included in the generated application).
CA OPS/MVS AOF variables API.ESPUSER and API.ESPEVENT
are set to the values of ESP variables ESPUSER and ESPEVENT
API.LEVEL variable is set to the name of the current ESP
subsystem
Can only be used inside ESP Events

CA 7 to CA OPS/MVS API Functions
Browse Dataset Messages can be forwarded to CA OPS/MVS as API ID CA7MSG via CA 7 Route Master Station Messages
(MSMR) facility.
MSMR include messages about the status of CA 7 jobs and CA 7 system activities such as schedule scan and job submission.

CA OPS/MVS OPSCA7 Function
The OPSCA7 function sends commands directly to CA 7 and returns output from those commands directly to the OPS/
REXX external data queue.
The function call defaults to CA 7 instance CA71, this can be over-ridden with a parameter
§ RC = OPSCA7("CA7=CA7n;/LOGON=userid;your CA7 command;/LOGOFF")
CA OPS/MVS sample program CA7MVS illustrates how to implement a CA 7 interface using the CA OPS/MVS EPI facility.

Use Cases

Get the value of IFLPWMAX , an unsigned integer attribute representing the maximum IFL processing weight for LPAR CA03. The
REFRESH parameter determines if the command is sent through BCPii or uses the HiSRV cached value.
Set the value of IFLPWCAP, a Boolean attribute representing if IFL processing weight for LPAR CA03 is capped, to TRUE.
The TIMEOUT parameter set to ‘0’ indicates this command will never timeout.

Security Integration

Security Integration
§ The OPSECURE function uses a set of subfunctions to return information that is
related to CA ACF2, CA Top Secret, or RACF. OPSECURE returns the following types
of information:
– Subfunction code A extracts data from the standard security control block (ACEE).
– Subfunction code D verifies data set access.
– Subfunction code F fetches a field from a logon ID record.
– Subfunction code I returns information about the security product on your system.
– Subfunction code P enables you to validate a user password, set a new one, or both.
– Subfunction code R requests general resource information.
§ If the security product was unknown to CA OPS/MVS, issue the following
command after the security product is started:
– F OPSx,RESTART(SECURITY)
