Children, young people and staff really value music:

‘Whatever happens –they can’t take it away from you.’

• Funded by the Life Changes Trust
• Aims to remove the barriers young people in residential settings face when
accessing music and creativity

Sound Lab

Exist to provide free, fun and engaging creative tuition to young people and other groups
Deliver programmes across Glasgow and surrounding areas
Voluntary run and community led: managed by a team of 9 committed volunteers, and
employing expert tutors on a sessional basis to deliver programmes
First class creative equipment that can be rented by the community, with the proceeds
going back into the community
Set up in Tollcross in 2003 in memory of an inspirational young local man
Have helped hundreds of young people to get into music, creativity and advance their skills

Currently, we’re delivering:
• 12 week music tuition programme with adults with disabilities
• 12 week music/creative tuition programme with adults with mental health
conditions
• 12 week music/creative tuition programmes with young people aged 8-18 in
Bridgeton 12 week music/creative tuition programmes with young people in
Easterhouse
• 12 week music/creative tuition programme for refugee/asylum seeking young
people

Children, young people and staff really value music: ‘I like MC Lyrics as it talks about stuff going on in your life.’ (Young Man, 16 years) ‘Whatever happens –they can’t take it away from you.’ (Young Woman c.15 years) ‘Music can increase confidence as this gives a sense of achievement’ (Staff) ‘Using the lyrics in songs to help young people talk about their feelings and engage with staff.’(Staff) ‘The moments can be happy and important in building relationships between staff and young people.’(Staff)

  • 19. celcis.org @CELCISTweets Exist to provide free, fun and engaging creative tuition to young people and other groups Deliver programmes across Glasgow and surrounding areas Voluntary run and community led: managed by a team of 9 committed volunteers, and employing expert tutors on a sessional basis to deliver programmes First class creative equipment that can be rented by the community, with the proceeds going back into the community Set up in Tollcross in 2003 in memory of an inspirational young local man Have helped hundreds of young people to get into music, creativity and advance their skills Sound Lab Mission
