• What other companies does it own?
• What is the company worth?
• When was facebook live introduced? What is it?
• How was facebook live promoted/launched? Who is it targeting and how can you tell?
• What is Germany proposing in response to extremist abuse of social media like Facebook?
• For what purpose do different audiences use social media (and Facebook in particular) – uses and grats/dependency
theory.
• How do audiences and institutions use hashtags? Positive and negative implications?
Contextual social media research
• Find an example of where social media has been used to the audiences/independent producers/institutions/social benefit.
• Find an example of where social media has been used and had a detrimental impact on audiences/institutions/social
groups.
• How does social media demonstrate globalisation? What are the positives and negatives of this?
• What new technology has been developed or is used to access social media or produce social media content?
• What is the communications act and how does this govern the use of social media
• What is the Communications Act and how does this relate to the use of social media? Find examples
Examples to explore
• Look at how the Black Lives Matter campaign used social media to spread their message globally.
-What are the positive and negative implications of this?
-Can you link this to dominant ideologies, Alvarados theory, dependency theory, technological determinism etc
-Is this a positive or negative example of Globalisation?
-How was this pastiched by the Global corporation Pepsi and how did Social media play a role in its
removal?
-Which social media formats in particular played a pivotal role in the BLM campaign and the downfall of the Pepsi
campaign? Find examples.
-Is this an example of Cultural imperialism?
• Look at how Twitter has been employed by extremist groups like ISIS. Read the article here:
