2. Lying
98 percent of adolescents admit
that they lie, 98 percent also think
that lying is morally wrong. (via
Nancy Darling of Oberlin College,
Ohio)
3. So why does 98% lie if they truly
believe it is morally wrong?
4. Hypotheses:
1. Adolescents do not actually believe it is morally
wrong, they just say that because it is the ‘correct’
thing to do.
2. They grow up hearing that lying is wrong, but
continues to see adults around them lie, giving
them mixed signals.
3. Adolescents do not know what they believe,
therefore cannot determine what is morally right or
wrong.
5. I will be going with an anonymous survey
because I believe that is the quickest and
most honest way to get the truth.
6. Questions:
1. How often do you lie, big or small, on an
average day?
a) 1 to 3 times
b) 4 to 6 time
c) 6 to 10 times
d) More than 10 times a day
7. 2. You feel guilty after telling a “white” lie?
a) Every time
b) Often
c) Sometimes
d) Occasionally
e) Never
8. 3. You feel guilty about telling a “big” lie?
a) Every time
b) Often
c) Sometimes
d) Occasionally
e) Never
9. The data will tell me when adolescents feel
guilty and when they do not, telling me if
they truly feel it is wrong to lie.
My conclusion is everyone lies but
those who believe it is wrong will feel
guilty, and therefore lie less.
