Why do leaves fall colors change?
AUTUMN LEAVES AND FALL
          FOLIAGE
   This presentation provides an overview for our
    upcoming class activities.
   This science project will account 10% out of 100 of
    students overall grade
   Portions of this project will be spent collecting data
    and research at home and in the classroom. Taking
    up approximately 1 hour a day for 1 month.
   This project will be group based. Students are
    encouraged to participate equally with their
    classmates. Parents are also encouraged to help
    their children and are welcomed in the classroom
    to volunteer or observe at any time.
   Our project is called, “Seasonal Changes” and
    will progress for approximately one month.
   The purpose of this action plan is to allow
    students to collaborate with peers and
    community members to collect leaves during
    the changing of the seasons from summer to
    fall. Students will learn the changing of
    seasons and about photosynthesis.
   As summer ends and autumn comes, the days
    will get shorter and shorter, thus giving the
    plants time to get ready for winter.
   The activities in this unit plan will be guided by
    the following objectives:
   Incorporating technology into classroom projects.
    After data and research is collected, students will
    create a collage of leaves, and will create a power
    point presentation in their group to show the class
    what they have learned.
   Students will work collaboratively to learn about a
    science unit (chapter 2 Photosynthesis)
   Students will utilize technology for researching
    information
   Students will use Project-based learning to get
    hands on experience and knowledge about
    photosynthesis .
STUDENTS WILL CONCLUDE:
 The way plants turn water and carbon dioxide
  into oxygen and sugar is called photosynthesis.
  That means "putting together with light." A
  chemical called chlorophyll helps make
  photosynthesis happen. Chlorophyll is what
  gives plants their green color.
   Students will be placed in groups of four. There
    will be 5 groups total. Each student will be
    responsible for a part of the assignment. This
    includes planning, collecting data and leaves,
    researching factual science information, finding
    pictures, and creating a power point presentation
    for the class. At the end of the project, after
    presenting, the students will evaluate each other
    based on their group effort.
   Volunteers are always welcome in our classroom.
    Especially for this project, adult supervision and
    interaction is encouraged . Please feel free to come
    in any time to help in ways such as guest speaking,
    gathering resources, photography, etc.
BENEFITS OF PROJECT-BASED LEARNING
   Students will be provided with authentic learning
    opportunities
   Allows students to build 21st century skills
   Promotes critical thinking and problem-solving skills
   Students learn to communicate, collaborate, and work
    together not only on group activities. They will learn
    to work as a team while researching, collecting data,
    analyzing data, synthesizing, and reporting
    information.
   Students will learn how to become flexible and
    adaptable in the future while working under time
    constraints.
