2. Valentine's Day is a festival that cherishes love and romance. The festival is on February 14th every year and it is celebrated in many countries around the world including USA, UK, Canada, Japan, France, China and India.
3. The popular festival of love and romances finds its origin in an ancient Roman festival. There are various legends associated with the festival along with the belief that birds began to mate from this day . The popularity of the Valentine's Day festival is because of the combined effects of all these legends, beliefs and of course the wish to glorify the feeling of LOVE.
4. O One of the traditions of Valentine's Day is the exchange of love notes called "Valentines". Initially people used to exchange handwritten notes but in the 19th century, the practice of sending handwritten notes was replaced by the exchange of greeting cards. Gradually, Valentine's Day cards are given to teachers, siblings, parents, friends and dear ones along with sweethearts.
5. Today, Valentine's Day festival is the day people send the biggest quantity of cards, after Christmas. Most common pictures in Valentine's greetings include popular Valentine's Day symbols like red roses, hearts and Cupid, the winged son of Venus, the goddess of LOVE.
6. According to popular legends the red rose is the favourite flower of Venus, the Roman Goddess of Love and Beauty. So the red Rose was associated with love and romance. Historians believe that the tradition of giving red roses on Valentine's Day became popular in the 1700s when Charles II of Sweden introduced the Persian custom of "the language of flowers" to Europe. Poets and romantics at also have the red rose as a symbol of love, passion and beauty.
