2. Video in the Classroom
Lesson Plan: The Middle Ages (500 – 1500 C.E.)
• There are three general historic eras include ancient history, the
Middle Ages and modern history.
• This lesson is about the Middle Ages, Dark Ages or medieval time,
which is started with the fall of the Roman Empire in 476 and to
have lasted about 1,000 years until about 1450.
• After 476, life in Europe was pretty tough; trade and commerce
collapsed, travel was dangerous, and the educational system was so
poor that kings and nobles couldn’t even write their own names.
• Nevertheless, the Middle Ages, as this era is known today, saw the
rise of great military and political leaders, as well as amazing artistic,
poetic, and architectural achievements.

3. Using Video to Reach out Students
Video is a learning tool
Video allows teachers illustrate examples to help
develop a better understanding of the lesson.
Indeed, it stimulates classroom discussion,
reinforces lectures and helps educators to teach
more effectively.
Video materials help students do better in class
Research shows that teachers that have use video in
the classroom have notice that their students do in
writing assignments, score higher grades in exams,
are more active in class discussions, and apply more
creative approaches to problem solving.
4. Engaging Students
Video can enhance the lesson plan
• Teachers use video to connect with the lesson objectives
and
• give students assignments to encourage attention and
post discussion.
• It is crucial that teacher use lead-in’s questions such as:
“Listen for this term…”
“Think of similar examples…”
“List the things in the video that…”
• Then, after the video teacher should check for
understanding of the lesson, reinforce a lesson objective
and connect the video to everyday life examples.
5. Enhancing Learning in the Classroom
• Teachers use educational videos to help students to
engage in the lesson objectives, to retain more
information, understand difficult concepts more
rapidly.
• Video can be an important component in a lesson plan
because it helps students to make new connections
and discover links between the lesson objectives and
the world outside the classroom.
• Also, teachers can reach children with a variety of
learning styles such as visual learners which become
more enthusiastic when they are learning by watching
a video that reinforce the lesson.
