2. INTRODUCTION
The greenhouse effect is a process that occurs when
gases in the earth’s atmosphere trap the sun’s heat.
It makes the earth a comfortable place to live.
Without atmosphere the temperature of earth is around
20 to 40 dc.
But the excess warming earth is uncomfortable as well as
danger to the organism and this excess warming of earth
is known as global warming.
The increasing temperature day by day is a warning to
the organism.
3. MECHANISM
As you might expect from the name, the greenhouse effect works
like a greenhouse!
A greenhouse is a building with glass walls and glass roofs used to
grow plants such as tomatoes and tropical flowers.
A greenhouse stays warm inside even during winter because the
glass walls of the green house traps the suns heat.
The greenhouse effect works much the same way on earth.
Gases in the atmosphere such as CO2, water vapour trap heat
making the earth much warmer and these gases are called
greenhouse gases.
4.
5. What are these gases
The major greenhouse gases are:-
Water vapour
Carbon Dioxide (CO2)
Nitrous oxide (NO2)
Methane (CH4)
Fluorinated gases (HFCs, PFCs, SF6)
6. Causes of Global Warming
1.Deforestation:-
Plants are the main source of oxygen.
They are responsible for increasing
the amount of oxygen and decreasing
Carbon dioxide. Thereby they are
maintaining environmental balance.
Forest are being depleted for many
domestic and commercial purposes
led to an environmental imbalance,
thereby giving rise to Global warming.
7. 2.Industrial Development:-
With the advent of industrialisation the temperature of the earth has been
increasing rapidly .
The harmful emission from the factories add to the increasing temperature
of the earth.
Burning of the coal in several industries releases a lot amount of heat add to
the increasing temperature of the Earth.
8. 3.Chlorofluorocarbon-
With the excessive use of air
conditioner and refrigerators,
human have been adding CFCs
into the environment which
affects the atmospheric ozone
layer. The ozone layer protects
the earth surface from the
harmful UV rays emitted by the
sun. the CFCs has led to ozone
layer depletion making way for
the UV rays, thereby increasing
the temperature of the earth.
9. 4.Agriculture:-
Various farming activities produces
carbon dioxide and methane gas these
add to the greenhouse gases in the
atmosphere and increase the
temperature of the earth.
Changes in land use also a cause for
global warming.
10. 5.Earth’s own feedbackloop:-
As the atmosphere warms, it is able to hold more
water, which is already the most abundant
greenhouse gas. This creates a feedback loop that
accelerates global warming.
6.Variationsin the Sun’sintensity:-
The Earth receives its warmth from the sun, so
it’s reasonable to suspect that our home star
may be one of the reason for global warming.
Although the amount of energy coming from
the Sun does vary and may have been
responsible for warming in the past, however,
NASA has ruled this out as a cause of the
current warming trend.
11. EFFECTOF GLOBALWARMING:-
Here are some of the effects of Global warming:-
Rise in temperature
Climate change
Threats to the Ecosystem
Loss of Natural habitat
Spread of diseases
Rise in sea level
Shortage of drinking water
Water pollution
Increase in rainfall and wind speed
Social tension.

15. Mitigationof Global Warming:-
We can control or minimize the global warming in
some extent in the following ways:-
Reduce, Reuse , Recycle.
Plantation.
Use less heat and Air
conditioning.
Reduction in greenhouse
gases
Climate engineering
Education
Buy energy-Efficient
product.
Encourage other to
conserve.
Adaption.
