20. The Story
Behind Our Mission
Two extraordinary journeys changed the
way Shereen viewed adult learning.
The first journey was a leadership
expedition to Antarctica where
participants were challenged to lead
teams in harsh conditions. The experience
exposed basic human vulnerability and
put leaders to the ultimate test. The
experience was about practicing, not
discussing leadership. The lesson here
was that effective leadership is an action
The company was founded in 2013
with a mission to stretch learning
boundaries and take initiative. This
became our internal philosophy and what
we encourage our clients to do. By now,
it is no surprise to you that we called our
company – Initiativez.
The first programme designed to stretch
boundaries was designed and developed
to target the GCC. It uses the
‘learn by doing’ methodology like the
Antarctica expedition did. And the learning
milestones were based around military
training techniques. Initiativez, runs this
programme in beautiful and inspiring
parts of the world to make the experience
an unforgettable adventure for every
participant. The flag ship workshop has
since been customised to address women
empowerment initiatives in KSA, as well
as aspiring youth across the GCC region in
general.

The second was military style leadership
training with the U.S Marine Corps.
Teams were pushed to their physical and
psychological limits. Critical thinking,
decision-making and discipline were crucial
during this exercise. The takeaway was
that discipline and self-control are a critical
